If a person looks at the video at 25 seconds, it clearly shows all of the people more or less lined up in a row and at 32/33 seconds it shows the jumper just steps from the road. I point this out in an effort to show pretty significant distance between the jumper and the non-jumpers. It also shows that there were plenty of outs for the jumper ie different lanes that could have been used. Depth perception can be tricky in a video but the cars give clues as to just how big a space there is in that area. Come out to couchfreaks and make a judgement about that landing area in person.

Hey Wingflyer, I agree with some of the other posters who said it really doesn't f***ing matter because the canopy wants to open. It really does. However, if you really want to keep the lines in the center you can feel the lines with your hand in the bottom 2/3 of the canopy. Lift the lines with one hand by poking your fingers into the fabric and curling the lines under with one hand. Tuck the canopy under the lines with the other hand. For the right side of the canopy use your left hand to lift the lines. The top 1/3 of the canopy doesn't have any lines and so move that material any way you like. Hopefully this explanation makes sense and if it doesn't pm me and I will try and make it clearer. I saw a previous post on this subject and it made me start thinking. How do people know that the whales are happy? Also even if the whales were sad wouldn't we want to let them land. It just seems so unfair. Now I am no whale expert and to be honest I had heard of flying fish but I had never heard of flying whales. I just met a lady who started jumping at our DZ who has 50+ jumps and is still on student status. She just got off of AFF training. I did some two coaching jumps with her last weekend and she is doing great. I don't know what her issues were but she is a fine example of what determination and desire can do for a person if they really want to do this sport. For what its worth she does not need the tug/tub speech although she obviously had some difficulties with the learning process. When I was in the good old United States Army we did intentional water jumps many times. We did have boat support in case people needed assistance but no one ever did. We would then swim back to shore. For sport jumping, we also put on gear connected to an open parachute and we would jump into the deep end of the pool. A Stiletto is a fully elliptical canopy and PD does not recommend a stiletto at your wing loading except for advanced canopy pilots. That said I'm sure you are probably the exception to the rule and can ignore this guideline. For what its worth, it isn't that you can land a canopy in good conditions it is landing the canopy in bad conditions. People get hurt in this sport all the time taking short cuts. Most guidelines also recommended that if you are going to downsize that you don't downsize and go to an elliptical canopy at the same time. Again I'm sure you can handle it based on your experience. I quess I should have qualified my reply a little better. The person who taught me showed me his technique and while he did learn from Dave Dewolf I have no idea if he followed Dave Dewolf's teachings. I originally used a method that did not specify doing any reduction folds because for the most part I was packing Quasars for Strong Enterprises and Strong does not specify the need to do reduction folds. That said I did work with a rigger who showed me how Dave Dewolf teaches how to do reduction folds in his course and that technique has the AB fold up and the other folds down prior to wrapping the tail. I purchased a CD from Jumpshack and their video shows taking the tail and folding all of the folds under at the same time you are cocooning the tail. Personally I think the most important part of the process is making sure that the noses are able to be exposed to the wind upon deployment of the canopy. If there was a significant difference in the method governing the ability of the reserve to open in a timely manner I would suspect that all of the manufacturer's would require that method.
