  1. If you sell the car, don't cancel your coverage. That will bite you in the @ss later. You can get a non-owner coverage that way you have continuity of coverage if you ever get a car again. Good tip. That is actually why I am reluctant to sell it. I didn't know there were non-owner policies available. Thanks. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

  3. I switched from Progressive / Drive to Allstate about eight months ago, with a significant rate reduction and coverage increase. I just gave them my change of address, and they increased my premiums by about 25%. The irony is since I relocated I only drive about one mile for every hundred miles I was driving before. I'm also not driving anywhere now I wasn't driving before (though I was driving many places before that I'm not driving now.) I'll likely be looking elsewhere soon. Or, I may just sell my car and cancel my coverage. I walk most everywhere these days. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  4. Right now you should be thankful you didn't say that in Bonfire! Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  5. Hospitals? Not sure. Every culture has been concerned with health. I'm not sure who began the first institutions dedicated to health. Universities? Depending on your definition, I would say Socrates / Plato / Aristotle, or even earlier. I would be surprised if ancient Babylon didn't have schools of higher learning. Great works of art in the renaissance? Since art is much older than the renaissance, I'm not sure it is a relevant question. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  6. I'm going to have to request elaboration here. It sounds as though you believe that without religion we would have no hospitals, great art, or schools of higher learning. That seems to be a bit of a stretch. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  7. America's culture is imported cultures. It always has been (at least since our genocide of the Native Americans) and likely always will be. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  8. You look outside and tell me that a tree is made of wood. I say, no, not really. To me, I think that tree is really made of jello. I don't care that those who've studied trees decide that it's made of wood. Neither of us is right or wrong. It's all just jello to me. That's exactly my point. The Bible is subjective. People interpret it how they interpret it. No one is in any position to claim someone else's interpretation is incorrect. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

  11. It seems ideal to ask someone to take an oath on a book they find most sacred / important. If I'm ever elected to an office, I'll probably want to take my oath on a Science book. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  12. It's a consensus among those people most qualified in their individual fields concerning areas such as theology, textual criticism, historicity, hermeneutics, translation, etc. Sorry, I'm not seeing much of a consensus. I believe Billvon described it more accurately. It means what it means to the reader. Certainly an onipotent God can make sure those who read his word understnd his word as he intended them to understand it. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  13. In the interest of national security I think it's a great idea. It would go a long way to mending the damage that he and his buddies have caused and it would show the rest of the world that we subcribe to the values that we're trying to spread around the world. I mean, what's the harm in the long run? Besides, think of the money we'd save. No secret service for life, no pension, no "Fun with Dick and Jane" Dubya library And maybe we could have the UN handle our foreign policy, too.

  17. So are you saying we need a national language in the United States? If so, I vote for Chinese. It seems to offer more potential for increased precision in communications. Seriously, I don't see a need for a national language, English or otherwise. The mindset that knowing English is enough is a cultural weakness. Knowing multiple languages offers glimpses into other cultures. Those glimpses help us better understand those who may not be like us. Understanding other cultures is preferable to fearing other cultures, which is the case all too often today. (Maybe Frenchy can chime in; IIRC he is multi-lingual.) Furthermore, I believe additional languages should be learned very early, so a level of fluency is reached before secondary school. Kids learn additional languages with the same part of their brains as used for learning their native tongue. Adults use a different part of the brain, making learning more difficult. I think it would be a very difficult to support the assertion that immigrants don't make efforts to learn English. It is pretty rare that I meet immigrants that can't speak the language at all. 18. Dave is wise beyond his years. You should listen to him.
  19. I seem to recall a few years back there were a couple BASE jumping cases in court. In one case the government (NPS, I think) was arguing that BASE was illegal because a parachute is not an aircraft, while simultaneously, in the other case, arguing that BASE was illegal because a parachute was an aircraft. IIRC, I read about these cases in Skydiving. At any rate, the double talk on the CO2 issue does not surprise me. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  20. If it has climbed, one possible hypothesis would be that more non-English speaking immigrants are coming into the United States. Another possible hypothesis would be that more immigrants are attempting to actively learn English. Yet another possible hypothesis is that more classes are available, and so immigrants are taking advantage of an opportunity not previously available, or at least as widely available. Still another possible hypothesis would be that there are more immigrants, and the percentage of immigrants that take ESL classes has largely remained unchanged. I'm sure there are other possible explanations. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  21. You do realize that the Shia and the Sunnis do not always agree, philosophically (and politically) speaking, right? Sheesh. There are an awful lot of people who keep forgetting the original context in which this topic started. In regard to their feelings towards America, both the Sunni and the Shia want to kill us. That makes them philosophically similar in the context of this discussion. And, yes, they often want to kill each other also. They're all such nice people. But right now, Libya (mostly Sunni) is playing nice with the US, but we're not faring so well with the Sunnis in Iraq. Maybe, just maybe, we shouldn't paint all Muslims with the same brush. Nor should we assume that just because a Muslim acts in a certain way that action is motivated by faith. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  22. Again, I will refute your point as my response to your post. Iran is not an Arab country, so we can rule out Pan-Arabism as the reason Libya supported Iran. Iraq has a very large Muslim population, so we can rule out Pan-Islamism as the reason Libya supported Iran. Better? Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  23. Pretty much the same reasons, probably. Why does any nation ally with another? Let's see. You said: Which is it, Pan Arabism or Pan-Islamism? They're competing movements. Is Iran even considered Arab? With respect to sponsoring terrorism, the United States is not necessarily innocent of such practices, either. We just don't call it that when it is perpetrated in our national interests. Hell, GHW Bush even pardoned Orlando Bosch, a known (pro US) terrorist. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! 24. To be honest, I'm not sure. I just happened to have my Black's Law Dictionary a foot and a half away, so I thought I would post an excerpt. Your interpretation seems reasonable, and I am inclined to agree, but like I said, I'm not sure. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  25. And the US supported Saddam during the same war. Do you think the United States and Iraq (under Saddam) are philosophically similar? If so, please elaborate. If not, how can Libya's support of Iran during that war be used to link the two countries philosophically? Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
