How so? The statements are contradictory. The "you have the freedom to say what you want as long as I have the opportunity to kick your ass if I don't like what you say" attitude is not free speech. It doesn't even resemble free speech. It's using fear of violence to deter free speech. You are hiding behind your keyboard as much or as little as any other poster. Just because the internet is remote does not mean the freedom to speak one's mind should be curtailed by law or force. If someone is so immature that they feel compelled to violence every time their feelings are hurt, they have personal issues that go way beyond any topic at hand, and should probably seek professional help. Since there were so many people available in this particular situation, simultaneous treatment would have been acceptable. Canine before humans? Absolutely not. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

You don't know that he didn't pull a weapon. It doesn't show one from this camera angle, but we can't see the whole story. Just one perspective of it. I was once shown a set of two different views of the same situation... surprising what a difference that can make. You can't assume that you are seeing what all the cops saw. And FOR THE RECORD... I wasn't saying that cuz he beat his gf that he didn't deserve medical care... I was saying that he wasn't innocent and his actions started this chain of events that led to the conclusion... the dog however was an innocent beast that should have been better controlled or kept from harm. I think one of the cops asked if there was a gun near the end of the video. I'm well aware that perspective is everything, but the perspective of the camera does not change the fact that the dog received medical attention before the human. That's not the way it works in civilized societies. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

I think they should have waited for the suspect to show a weapon before firing. I watched the video, and their was no visual sign of a weapon before or after the cops killed the guy. However, my previous comment was in regards to who gets the medical treatment first. The person should get treatment first, even if he beat his pregnant girlfriend. I can understand the handler going to his dog first, but the rest of the cops also screwed up by not immediately treating the suspect after he was down. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! "Are you happy? I am, man, content and fully aware. Money, status- nothing to me Cause your life's empty and bare. What's my drug of choice? Well, what have you got? I don't go broke And I do it a lot. You can't understand the user's mind, But try with your books and degrees. If you let yourself go and open your mind I'll bet you'd be doing like me. And it ain't so bad." To each their own. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

Or maybe it was. It would be interesting to find out this particular officer's conviction rate was before this judge, if he had ever been in his courtroom. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials! -

Nowhere in the definition of hypothesis does it say the proposal actually has to be testable, merely that it needs more testing before it can be elevated to the lofty status of theory. That's why string theory is controversially named, it's actually a hypothesis in as much as it hasn't been and probably can't be tested. God may be an untestable hypothesis, but it is still a hypothesis. Here are some more scientific laws: The law of thermodynamics Hook's law of elasticity. The ideal gas law The law of conservation of energy Conservation of momentum Coulombs law. Kirchoff's circuit laws Keplers law of planetary motion Planck's law of blackbody radiation The speed of light is a constant Stefan-Boltzman law I'm not making this up, they're actually called laws. A scientific law is a description of an observed phenomenon. Kepler's Laws of Planetary Motion for example describe the motions of planets but they do not explain why planets behave that way. Gravity is a law although General Relativity which explains gravity is a theory. If a "hypothesis" cannot be tested, it is merely an idea. What makes it a hypothesis is that it is a starting point for further testing/observation. String Theory is not currently testable. Many theories in science are known as laws, since they have withstood the test of time. Nonetheless, they are still technically only theories, models that can be used to predict future results/observations. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

My professor started the first day of Calculus 3 with the following statement: "You will never use what you are about to learn unless you work for NASA and even then you probably won't use anything you learn." Approximately half the students dropped after that lecture and half of the remaining students failed. Good luck and remember to put the fun in functions! Calc 3 was cake. DEMISE OF THE S.U.V!!! (Language Warning)
jcd11235 replied to orribolollie's topic in Speakers Corner
The SUV/car was an arbitrary classification. Not all cars are fuel efficient, nor are all SUVs heavy gas guzzlers. However, I think generally the distinction holds for the purpose of the discussion. If what Kallend said about road damage being proportional to the cube of the axle weight is true (I've no reason to believe otherwise.) then there really isn't any such thing as a "negligible" amount of difference in weight. A 2600 lb vehicle would contribute to over 12% more road wear than a 2500 lb vehicle. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
