And what sites do you prefer? I'm using Azureus, which works well, but crashes often. The original Bittorrent software is more stable for me, but is very slow in comparison. And before the file sharing police jump my case, my primary purpose for file sharing is to get the music back that I have lost due to theft or CD rot. In either case, I've already paid for it, so I don't feel a bit guilty. OS X v.10.4 Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

I've owned the high end component based A/V system. I've also used extensively a roommate's Mac Mini / Terastation (via LAN) system. Speakers notwithstanding, the Mac based system was superior, especially in terms of user friendliness, even without Front Row. The PC that was replaced by the Mac also worked better than the component system, without Media Center. It's just a matter of time before people typically have a computer controlling their A/V needs. Easier to use, less space required, more formats supported, and fewer remotes. To say nothing of LAN streaming, etc. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

The US has been doing pretty well at it since 1941...very protracted.... And the politicians are PAID by the people that Eisenhower warned us all about..the military industrial complex.. THEY have benefitred GREATLY. How much better off do you think the US might be if we weren't wasting billions (trillions?) on war and military buildup? How much better would our government serve us if they weren't subjected the the bribery lobbying? Last I checked, our education and healthcare did not compare favorably to much of the first world's, and is even inferior to some relatively impoverished, yet peaceful, nations'. But we do have some kick ass bomb delivery systems. They may not all be as effective as suicide bombers and IEDs, but hey- you can't have everything. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! Look and see how many Iraqis have died since our invasion. What is the mission again? How are the Iraqis better off than before the invasion? How is the US now safer? (hint: trick question) If you limit your recognition of A.H. to persecution of Jews et al and concentration camps, no, A.H. and Bush are nothing alike. If you look at A.H. as a leader who wasted innocent lives for no good reason, and invaded foreign sovereign countries without justification, the dissimilarities begin to disappear. I neither have to agree with them or be non Arian to understand exactly where they are coming from. All it requires is an objective analysis. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! I think the merging of home computing and home theater technologies will accomplish this, rather than a unified player. IIRC, the physical difference is the thickness of the disks. Blu-Ray discs are much thinner, and their reduced thickness is what allows the technology to work. Likewise, the HDDVD relies on its thicker dimension for its technology to work properly. I'm not sure the two technologies will ever be playable with the same optical pickup. (I could be mistaken.) Correction: The difference is the distance of the recording surface from the surface of the discs, not the thickness of the discs. That may be something a unified optical pickup could deal with, although I still think as more people build their home theater systems around computers (and the price of each technology drops), it will be a non-issue soon, anyway. I would opt for multiple smaller capacity cards when traveling. That way, if your camera is lost, stolen or damaged, you do not lose all your pictures with it. Yeah, it would suck losing the camera, but the pictures will be more valuable to you in the future. If you use multiple cards, only one is lost with the camera, should something bad happen. Some rules of thumb from a recovering audiophile / home theater nut: Diagonal screen size should be (no larger than) about half the distance from the screen to the main viewing seats. When buying a television, spend the money on the screen, not the audio capabilities. You will generally get much better sound from a separate audio system. (Caveat: As a general rule, companies that make good electrical components, such as receivers and CD players, make lousy speakers, and vice versa.) You can't get too many input/output ports, nor too many types. What you may not have a use for now may be very useful in a couple of years. I personally would not buy any HD television that I could not easily use as a computer monitor. Home computers and home theater control systems are becoming much less distinguishable. They could have started by doing their jobs properly before executing the warrant. When resorting to violence, there is no room for error. If the cops f'ed up (as it appears thus far), they should be held accountable for their actions. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

Up to a point. The Chinese may be patient, but not infinitely patient. They have more than $1trillion, and if they unload the ramifications will be dire. Not to mention that it could be viewed as a good long term investment for a potential adversary to intentionally undermine the value of the dollar, especially if that adversary views itself to be in a position to be a world superpower. What, exactly, is the logical difference? The police officer is not generally considered a threat to the public / law and order. That doesn't seem to be the case this time. I'm sure the grandkids are cool with grandma's death, since it was the cops who killed her. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

I used exactly the same logic you used in your previous post. If cops get shot at because they made a mistake with the warrant, but can still kill someone who is justly defending her home and claim self defense, then a criminal should be able to shoot a cop who pulls his gun and claim self defense. It's exactly the same thing, just with the roles reversed. If the cops aren't held responsible for the mistake with the warrant that ultimately led to the killing, then the criminal should also not be held responsible for the crime that ultimately led to the cop drawing his gun. I don't think cops should be held to lower standards than the civilians they are supposed to protect and serve. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

Then the same logic should apply to criminals shooting police officers. Once a cop pulls a gun, any shooting on the part of the criminal should be considered self-defense. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

Yes, I agree. I'm not sure there is a real difference between the two. If you are sworn to obey the orders, aren't the results essentially the same as an oath of allegiance? Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

I never stated otherwise. However, the current President has signed many, many more than all the previous presidents combined. He uses them to avoid giving Congress the ability to override a veto. I just reread: It sure looks like 500 000 + 100 000 = 600 000. It is not as though we have improved the situation. People are dying at a faster rate now than before. It is clear that the path we are taking does not seem to be beneficial to Iraqis. It does not seem to be beneficial to Americans. Sorry, you'll have to do better than that to discredit Johns Hopkins. Having a high confidence of your numbers means your spread is going to be large. It is not my opinion that our presence causing deaths at a higher rate than Saddam, it is a fact. It's not something we can vote on and come to a consensus. I for one see zero nobility in attacking a sovereign nation under false pretenses. Unfortunately, now that we've broken it, we have to find a solution. Some are smart enough to understand that violence is rarely the best solution. Others seem to think it should be the first option tried. Perhaps if we thought back a few decades to see how nation building worked out the last time we tried it in Iraq we might be able to make better decisions. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! Without a standard that we can use to judge good or evil, love or hate, it's just a statement. True, perspective is everything. From my perspective such statements reveal much about a person's character. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
