Origin of the species, where do you stand?

We have consensus. Katrina cleaned up the mess known as New Orlelans in just a few short hours. That is a pretty hateful statement. A bit ironic, huh. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials! -

The results of the Big Bang[ a huge explosion] goes against the current motion of every planet and solar system within this galaxy. Everything seems to turn in a giant counterclockwise motion. In a rather orderly fashion. I've never seen an explosion that suddenly put everything into working order, unless there was someone around to clean up the mess. The Big Bang is often termed an explosion because that is what our macro scale perceptions understand. It is not quite that simple, however. Fret not, there is sound scientific evidence for the Big Bang. In fact, a couple of Americans won a Nobel Prize this year for finding such evidence. Perhaps you should check out Stephen Hawking's A Brief History Of Time and/or The Universe In a Nutshell. Prof. Hawking explains some complicated material in a pretty lucid manner for those without the mathematical background to learn the actual theories. Order comes from chaos all the time. A hurricane is a good example. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials! -
By your numbers: 600 000/(24*12)=2084 dead Iraqi' in an average month under Saddam About 1600 more Iraqis died from our war in Iraq last month than an average month under Saddam. Between Operation Desert Storm (over 100 000)and Operation Iraqi Liberation Freedom (between 400 000 and 900 000 according to Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Health), the US invasions and occupations killed Iraqis at a much higher rate than Saddam did without our help. You need to take the blinders off. The Islamic world is learning the art of button pushing really well. I see you live in Fl. I'll make a prediction. Within years Sonny's BBQ will have to quit selling pork because some Muslim living down the street is offended by the smell. I doubt it. Floridians love that God awful stuff that passes for BBQ at Sonny's. Unfortunately, you cannot get decent BBQ very far east of Memphis, or very far west of KC, chicken, beef, or pork. Dorito Casserole 2-3 pounds turkey (or chicken) cooked and cut into bite size pieces 1 can chicken broth (or equivalent amount of turkey broth) 1 can condensed cream of chicken soup 1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup 1 can Ro-tel tomatoes with green chilies 1 bag Taco or Nacho Doritos 8 oz Velveeta cheese, chopped 1 small onion, chopped ground red pepper (to taste) (optional) Crush the Doritos. It is most entertaining to do this while walking through the store as you are grocery shopping. It seems to get the attention of some of the employees and fellow shoppers. It also gives you an opportunity to fuck with the cashier as you check out. "Oh wait, I didn't realize those were all crushed. Can I get a different bag?" You have to make sure you don't pop the bag as you are crushing the chips, otherwise this is harder to pull off convincingly. Mix all the ingredients together, except for about 1/4 of the Doritos. Put those aside, out of sight of other people, otherwise they won't be there when you need to use them. Place mixture, which will look pretty gross at this stage, in a 13" X 9" casserole dish / cake pan. Place in a 350 degree oven. Cook until bubbly in the center. Remove, and stir to mix the cheese in better. Add remaining Doritos to top surface of the mixture. Place back in the oven for an additional 10 minutes. Enjoy. It's pretty tasty. Variations: Can be made on the stove top in a pot without the Doritos, and can then be served over rice. If you are cooking for kids, or trying not to cook for leeching roommates, you can make it with guacamole Doritos. It then turns out green, and very gross looking, without much affecting the flavor, especially if you add red pepper. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

I think if you ran a similar anti-Christian cartoon in the New York Times (or any large US city), you might get a violent reaction. There are many Christians that have such a strong faith in Christ it defies logic. It's not a contest. I've talked with quite a few Muslims even called some my friends, and have never had anyone try to convert me to Islam (although I inadvertently converted one to atheism). I have, however, seen someone, without pressure, choose to follow the path of Muhammad. I personally feel that that was perhaps the best decision that individual could have made. Allah and Yaweh are the same entity, by definition. Contrary to popular propaganda, Islam is not a religion of violence. There is no reason to fear the possibility of having a Muslim neighbor. It's a small world, and getting smaller all the time. We need to learn to live peacefully together, differences and all.

I'm using the mathematical/logical definition of "or." What definition are you using? (emphasis mine) BTW, enjoy your Ben & Jerry's. It's good stuff. I have to admit, I prefer Breyers. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

I absolutely agree that the Congress has the right to amend the Constitution. However, amending the Constitution is very different than just passing legislation. To the best of my knowledge, Congress has not amended the Constitution to change the definition of treason. I agree that the 14th Amendment is also applicable. It's supposed to be our right to debate over bong hits! (or lines, etc; whatever your chemical of choice might be) I've enjoyed this discussion in spite of my sobriety, however. Largely, yes. There would still be some minor stuff, such as shoplifting, but nothing on the scale we see now. A drug user over an alcohol user every day of the week, and twice on Sunday. I tend to not trust people who are sober all of the time. Assuming proper precautions were taken during pregnancy and breast feeding, there is nothing wrong with parents that use drugs in a responsible manner. Studies suggest that there is a minimal psychological dependence with marijuana. Other drugs that are even less addictive, physically and psychologically, include LSD and psilocybin. Peyote, psilocybin, LSD, DMT, ayahuasca, and many, many more are used by shamen. They obtain their entheogens how they obtain their entheogens. Some do get them on the street corner at a huge mark up (which is due to the treasonous War On Drugs.) Every Rasta I've ever met shares. I think they believe it to be a part of being a good Christian. Still, I've never seen anyone show up at a "dance party" with 44 pounds of ganja. Usually such quantities are handled a bit more discreetly. Furthermore, Rastas are praising Jah every time they smoke ganja. How would you know if it's never been tried? I believe it could be a strong part of a multi-faceted defense, with the right attorney. Again, show me where the Constitution was amended to allow such legislation. Just because the legislation exists does not mean it is Constitutional. One cannot make that claim unless it has been challenged in court. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! Or maybe they are the ones looking closely. Do you really believe those muggings, robberies and thefts would take place if the War On Drugs did not artificially reduce supply to the point that $.10 worth of cocaine has a street value of $100? I seriously doubt it, for the same reason we don't read about people mugging people for cigarettes. There might still be some shoplifting, but that's pretty minor compared to what we have now. Again, this violence is a byproduct of the War On Drugs, not the drugs themselves. Seen it. It is another reason why I am against the treasonous War On Drugs. I've also seen friends die from OD, something that would be far less likely in a society where it is legal to learn to use drugs in a responsible manner, instead of bingeing while the cops aren't around. Incorrect and illogical. If the defense is used and defeated, you can make that claim, but not until then. Far, far fewer than those who are victims of the War On Drugs. The laws are more dangerous than the crimes. I am glad your reading the Constitution, a dozen times is a good start. In the last year alone I have read it that many times ( it is posted in one of our offices so I see it daily). I also sat in several classes concerning the Constitution and Constitutional Law over the last 20+ years. I hope you read it more thoroughly than you read my posts. Dozens (more likely hundreds) not "a dozen." Me too, with respect to the classes. I don't think it is a reach at all. I think it is a reach to not see it that way. How exactly would you interpret Article III, Section 3 and the First Amendment? Our government is free to declare war on our citizens as long as they pass legislation first? Freedom of religion is only guaranteed if the government approves of the manner in which one practices said religion? Those are the interpretations I am getting from your posts. So tell us, how many Presidential Signing Statements has the President signed, claiming authority to selectively recognize Congressional legislation, instead of vetoing the legislation and giving Congress the opportunity to exercise their Constitutionally granted authority to override his veto? How many of those have to do with legislation that is very, very unlikely to ever be challenged in a courtroom? Bonus history question: How many Presidential Signing Statements have all the previous presidents signed, combined? Answer those questions and tell me if you still think my hypothetical scenario is far fetched? We may not be there yet, but we're not that far away. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! Did you read my post before you replied? If so, you saw that I used the Constitution to support my assertion. You then claimed I had used "nothing" to support my assertion. How else can that be interpreted, except that you consider the Constitution to be "nothing?" Agreed. Care to show me the amendment where the definition of treason was changed? Have a link to the case where the treason defense was used and defeated? If it hasn't been argued, it hasn't been deliberated. Both the drug laws and the hypothetical white car law produce victimless crime. The analogy works well for that purpose, which is the only purpose intended with it. A better summation would be that I have read the US Constitution dozens of times, at least, and noticed a discrepancy between Article III, Section 3 and the War On Drugs, as well as between the First Amendment and the War On Drugs. Forgive me for having enough pride in the Constitution to speak out about such an injustice. It's all part of my master plan to someday live in a free country. Hopefully I won't have to emigrate from the US to realize that dream. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

Perhaps you should follow current events more closely. I have not strayed far from the current President's use of Presidential Signing Statements with my hypothetical. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the current President is an enemy of the Constitution (that would be worthy of its own thread.), but his actions (independent of Iraq) are such that to dismiss out of hand the possibility of such a scenario is naive, IMO, since it would require only a very small expansion of power claimed by the President, whenever (s)he might be. As a citizen, I believe I have every right to question whether US troops hold their oath to the Constitution above there oath to the President. I'm certain our Founding Fathers mentioned something about that right in the First Amendment. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

You were the one who disregarded the Constitution as "nothing." Don't be upset with me. There is no need to put treason in a current context, since the Founding Fathers defined treason in the Constitution. Evidently they wanted to make sure the definition remained fairly static. My position is that those very laws are treasonous. Can you show a case where the SCOTUS deliberated about and decided against such a defense? I'm not aware of any. If the citizens are law abiding in every other way, the War On Drugs is a war against (otherwise) law abiding citizens. If Congress passes a law stating that Americans can no longer drive white cars, and the Executive Branch began to violently enforce the law, would you feel the same way? Have you read the Constitution? Treason is clearly defined. Yes, for varying reasons. For example, shamen (contemporary and traditional) and Rastafari have their First Amendment right to freely practice their religion infringed by the War On Drugs. (Scroll down the page of the previous link to read the First Amendment.) Others may simply desire an alternate consciousness without the dangers associated with alcohol. Forgive me for having the desire to live in a free country. Can you support your assertion that the majority of Americans want drugs to remain illegal? Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! I'm not sure what Lucky has to do with this discussion. Perhaps you could clarify? Again, you should read the thread, and pay attention to detail. If you don't see what is paradoxical about taking an oath to defend the Constitution against all enemies, and obeying the orders of a CIC who is hypothetically an enemy of the Constitution, I can't help you to understand. Absolutely not true. The conflict may not be mind, but it would still exist. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
