  1. I think it's (nearly) safe to assume that anyone who is seeking computer purchase advice on a skydiving website is probably not quite ready for Linux.
  2. I have noticed that a lot of the problems "switchers" encounter are often caused because the user tries to turn a one or two step process into a four or five step process. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  3. The hawks sought support for the war by instilling (unjustified) fear in the population. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  4. Or, it could indicate that the Church (the organization) and the church (the building) aren't really in line with the teachings of Christ. So, who decides which of Jesus' teachings are to be taken literally, and which are metaphorical and subjective? That's okay; this is Speakers Corner. Like I said, this is SC. Please don't take the debate personally. Despite the often heated debates, we're just a big dysfunctional family.
  5. I recommend the Macbook. It's worth it just for OS X. It will also come preloaded with Garage Band, with which you can compose music. Other, higher end software is available for the same purpose. Your iPod will work well with the Macbook. Other MP3 players should work fine. Viruses are nearly non-existant for Macs. Should you need to use Windows, it can be run on the Mac in or out of OS X. I know many people that have switched from Windows to Apple. I know of few, if any, that have gone the other way. There is a reason for that. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  6. When I signed my first contract with the army, I signed up for three years of active duty, plus five years of inactive reserves. Typically, once the active duty commitment is fulfilled, the soldier is through. However, the gov't has the option of calling these soldiers back to active duty at anytime during the remainder of their eight year contract. Additionally, my contract had fine print which said something to the effect of: if the soldier is scheduled to end his/her active duty during time of war, the gov't has the option of retaining said soldier until six months after the war is over. (I don't remember how war was defined, or what the exact terminology was.) Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  7. I'd like to have an M198 for home/self defense. I'm not quite sure how to go about acquiring one, though. I think that to posses it .... Need to start with a type 1 FFL license (ATF website) [or maybe.... a C&R (curio and relic) license (read Chapter 11 of the book referenced below)]. Then you need to contact the NFA Branch (National Firearms Act Branch). Get the forms for Type 09 dealer, Type 10 manufacturer or Type 11 importer FFL license to allow you to deal in destructive devices. Then there's the Destructive Device license itself from the ATF (only $3000 for a three year license ATF but those are 1999 pricings.) And there's all the questions on what is and isn't a destructive device. For further clarification: refer to Chapter 23 of Machine Gun Dealers Bible by Dan Shea And not only the Howitzer but also each round (because it's over 50cal.[Just barely. -jcd11235]) is considered a destructive device and has a $200 tax per item. And they're hard to carry around. You can play with the big dogs... but you just gotta be willing to pay. I think the taxes would be offset by the gas savings from not having to actually drive to the range to practice. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

I've not noticed any similarities between the two, aside from legality. Of course, I've never heard of anyone puking from LSD, either. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

  11. How does the law work, exactly? I was under the impression that you had to purchase a lock for each gun. I think most responsible gun owners try to ensure their guns are stored safely. If a gun owner is "irresponsible" I doubt owning a trigger lock is going to change the manner in which the gun is stored. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  12. Those I have seen practicing yoga at the DZ tend to focus on the fitness aspect, and often completely ignore the religious aspect. I've met a few yoga instructors that I would certainly not consider Hindu. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  13. Can you resell them, so that when someone else buys a gun, and has to buy the trigger lock, they could purchase the trigger lock from you? Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  14. And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. 19. It depends what your definition is. I know of many illegals I reckon would not fit your definition. I think people would be surprised what the number of illegals coming from Western Europe, Canada, Australia, NZ, etc... is. I've met far more European and Canadian undocumented immigrants than I've met hispanic undocumented immigrants. I know that's just anecdotal, not statistical evidence. It's my real world experience, nonetheless. I think there is a tendency in America to assume Hispanics are undocumented, while Europeans are here legally. However, we can't tell anything about a persons immigration status by looking at that person, or listening to what language that person speaks. The very nature of undocumented immigrants means that we don't have a lot of accurate data available. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

The most aptly named drug ever.
  21. No. But that would be preferable to equating "beyond a reasonable doubt" to "the most likely suspect." The goal is a just society, not a 1:1 crime to conviction ratio. Wrongful imprisonment has no place in a just society. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  22. Where did you get that idea? I DEFINITELY need to edit that post if that is a realistic interpretation of what I wrote. To clarify, I believe every accused person should be judged with a very high burden of proof (of guilt). Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

  24. I can empathized with that. Are you strong enough to put yourself in the shoes of all the rest of society and make the harder decision? The ONLY way to ensure zero innocent people are put in jail is to let everybody go free. in other words, 1 in 10 billion is the answer? Your original post is an emotional response, but it doesn't answer the question. You took the easy way out. edit: stuck on double negatives for abit I don't believe my original response was emotional at all. Our system is designed to put the rights of the individual first. So logically, it is much better to let a guilty person walk than imprison and innocent person if our system is implemented as designed. In fact, I believe the emotionally based answers are the ones based in the fear that a guilty person might make their way back onto the streets. I think the easy way out (as long as I'm not the accused) would be to assume that if the accused was arrested, they're probably guilty, so we should lock them up. The hard choice is to do the right thing, even if that means someone guilty of murder, rape, etc. will be set free due to lack of enough evidence. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour!
