Come on Sluggo, there is only room for one tease here. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

So has any of the Christiansen as Cooper camp explained the Tena Bar money in a manner which fits their story? If I was escaping suspicion and turning my hot 20s into negotiable rare stamps etc., I would just keep right on doing what I was doing and sure wouldn't stir the pot by planting some rotted Cooper currency. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Ditto. My son, when he was 7, used to refuse to tell me whether or not he had done his school homework. He told me if I couldn't prove he didn't do it, then I should give him credit for having done it. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

I have dealt with fact checkers for major publications. They are not passionate about the story they are checking and that's good. They just follow leads down and see if they are grounded in something solid. The process works surprisingly well even though they are not "dedicated." They are hard nosed and single minded in my experience. It will be funny if the Gosset and Christiansen books are released simultaneously. If Christiansen was successful at eluding suspicion and laundering the loot, why would he give up some of it at Tena Bar? 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Did I make the right decision not to cut away?
377 replied to midlifecrisis's topic in Safety and Training
Although I likely would have cut away, you landed safely so it's tough to second guess your decisions. I have, however, seen canopy damage that was pretty serious and not clearly visible from the viewpoint of the suspended jumper. If the opening did some damage that you could see, it might have also done some that was not visible. You looked, you flew, you found it controlable. You decided it was landable and not in the process of further structural failure during the remaining flight. Turns out you were right. Glad it all worked out. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968. -
Agree with you and Georger. Most established publishers require this for non fiction, but the age of easy self publishing has permitted authors to be their own fact checkers, thus removing the key filter of impartiality. Actually I welcome anything, even a flawed Cooper book, that gets big publicity for the case. You never know what it might trigger. Someone might recall an odd fact about an old friend or co-worker that links them to NORJACK. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

I just dont have enough info about Christiansen to decide anything, but the proponents sure jump to a lot of conclusions. Jumping out the side door of a C 46 on static line is hardly a similar experience to making a freefall jump from a 727 jet. If you used your experience in one to prepare for the other you could make some fatal errors. The LAST think you'd want to do is have a money bag at the end of a long tether on a jet jump. An unstable exit is almost certain. Even if you planned to hold the bag close to you and only release it after canopy deployment, the violence of the jet exit could easily rip it from your hands. You'd have to have one hand free for a rip cord handle pull. The tether could wrap you as you tumbled and prevent the chute from opening. I doubt if an NWA purser would pull off Norjack without an effective disguise. Too easy for fellow employees to put two and two together. A tan is not what I'd call an effective disguise. I am keeping an open mind, but whenever the proponent of a Cooper theory has something to sell, my skeptic alarms start ringing. I dont think it automatically turns authors into liars, but it shades their judgment. They amplify evidence that supports their theory and attenuate evidence that doesnt. Georger could write the transfer function for the phenomena. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

I have reprimanded vacuum tubes. They share some traits with light bulbs. Does that count Georger? You know, 6146s, 807s, 813s. You were right. It had no effect on transconductance, emission or any other measurable parameter. Cathode poisoning is immune to entreaties. The gambler playing with other peoples money is an interesting analogy. I had never looked at it that way. We simply need to walk out of the casino. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

OK, we tried and failed to change Jo's illogic. Georger justifiably laughed at and ridiculed our futile efforts. A side benefit is the reappearance of Sluggo an Guru who I like to see. Let's take to spotlight off Jo and resume more productive work. Any Cook/Gossett developments? What about Coffelt? I don't know much about him? I took a look at Sluggos website and the considerable effort he put into flight path reconstruction. I used to think perhaps Copper jumped long after the assumed exit point but the evidence really doesn't support that. We have the radio comm and NWA teletype info, the pressure bump and other evidence which tells me we aren't way off on where Cooper jumped. Where did we leave off with Braden? He sure had the right stuff including a motive: money. Mayfield's behavior during the hijack smells really suspicious. He has never been ruled out to my satisfaction. His phone based alibi isn't solid. why did the FBI rule him out based just on phone calls that could have been made by a similar voiced accomplice? Cooper could be someone who isn't on anyones list. I think whoever he was he HAD to know a 727 was jumpable. To my mind that limits the list quite a bit and points to someone with a Boeing or SE Asia covert air ops connection or perhaps both. These are just aimless musings but they beat trying to debate Jo. Let's get the forum back on track and see if we can keep Sluggo and Guru involved. Snow has been quiet but he should be back when our rudder is repaired. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

sigh... Good luck in your quest for the truth about Duane Jo. We see things very differently. That's no reason for attack or disrespect. I do hope your health improves and you find what you are looking for. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

Jo, You frequently speak of "we" and refer to paid researchers. By your own pen you state that you cannot afford critical medical tests. Why spend money seeking further proof that Duane was Cooper? You have stated many times that there is no question that he was. You clearly have better uses for the funds. Your hypocrisy regarding the FBI shows an alarming lack of self awarenesss. You blast them for allegedly withholding evidence and failing to provide answers. Look in a mirror sometime. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Duane was a pro. Duane was a con. Just joking Jo, but in the absence of hard irrefutable evidence linking Duane to Cooper, you can't tell whether he was posing or not. Show us a twenty. Show us anything unambiguous. You can't. Therefore it is entirely possible that Duane was posing as Cooper. You prefer the alternative though it it less likely than the poser case. You are free to believe what you wish, but stop blaming the FBI for your woes. You lived with Duane. You were in a far better position than the FBI to produce evidence proving your hypothesis. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

Georger, Why go to such extremes? What Roosevelt said in his inaugural address to Congress is undisputed public record. I already conceded that FDR may have taken credit for Wallace's cabinet level work, a common presidential ploy. My Dad liked FDR, a lot. I liked what my Dad liked. Was I duped? I really don't think so. FDR did promote the CCC as you can read. Calm down. Take a deep breath. This isn't worth harsh words, sarcasm or ridicule. Peace, 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Bruce, My best wishes for a fast and full recovery and return to the forum. We'll really miss you. What do the rest of you forum readers think of my Duane as Cooper con man theory? It would explain a lot including the lack of contemporaneous (1971) hard evidence and the presence of subsequent (post 1971) manufacured circumstantial evidence (sentimental journey, library Cooper research etc.). We know Duane wasn't an experienced parachutist but was a long time con man. He didnt seem to be a fame seeker, just a crook. He didnt want the world to think he was Cooper, just certain people needed to perfect the con. It's just speculation but it fits the facts. It doesnt call Jo a liar, just a victim of Duane's lies. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

What would Snowmman Industries charge to engineer a massive all out firefight between Triple Canopy and Blackwater? It would be a good investment for the US taxpayers, and Snowmman Industries can weaken two competitors in the process. "PARIS — South Africa canceled a multibillion-dollar order for the Airbus A400M troop transport plane Thursday, dealing a painful blow to the program just weeks before the aircraft was expected to make its long-delayed first flight." South Africa just backed out of their deal to puchase A400Ms, the supposed C 130 successor. Get in there quick Snow with refurbed Antonovs. They could have a dozen of them for the price of one of those high tech tatical transports from Airbus that is way behind schedule. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. I saw a line twist go bad really really fast on a moderately loaded Stilletto. It started small and the jumper wasted some time trying to kick it out as it spun up tighter. He ended up cutting away but he was pretty low by then. The same line twist on my Triathlon would be no big deal, easily kicked out. Stilletos are fine canopies but they are high performance airfoils and can get you in trouble fast. I like to fly a canopy that can't bite so hard. Call me conservative or even chicken, but I still have intact bones where many have titanium plates and screws. Good luck and fly safe. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Yes, self defense actions including the use of deadly force if you had a resaonble fear for your own life, would be justified under those facts... but better not assume that justice will be fairly rendered in all foreign countries. It is disgusting to me that Obama supports and continues so called extraordinary rendition, a euphemism for the process of exporting prisoners for torture. We used to be a better country than that. What about the US Constitution that he professed to deeply respect? The CIA is leading him around by the nose. Why does he follow? 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Jo plays poker with the facts, bluffing, holding cards, etc. It seems to be a personality habit she is unable to break out of. We've all tried... I too wish she'd just present what she actually has without spin or interpretation and let the facts speak for themselves. There is no reason to be stealthy. This is an OLD crime, most of Duane's associates are probably demented or in wheelchairs. Jo's fear for her safety seem unfounded. In fact her safety would be enhanced by full public disclosure. That removes the incentive to silence her before she spills the beans. I think it's all groundless paranoia, but that doesnt mean that Jo's expressed fears are insincere. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

Here is another theory. Duane Weber was posing as Cooper to pull off a con job, maybe to get someone to front money for a Cooper loot recovery expedition or something like that. His library research on Cooper wold sure match that scenario. Cooper wouldnt need to research Cooper. Duane had a lot more history as a con man than he did as a parachutist. The part that doesnt fit is his death bed confession, but maybe he just wanted Jo to remember him as a big time operator, a guy who really could pull off the big one without getting caught and without hurting any individuals. Nobody wants to be remembered as a small time criminal who always got caught. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

I met a skydiver who had to do an ejection, sort of the reverse of your scenario. He was a very experenced skydiver and a Navy S3 pilot. He and his crew ejected from an out of control S3 over the ocean. He said it was horrible. The ejection G forces were huge and violent and he damn near drowned even with all his training and floatation gear. Fortunately all survived. I like the slower acro teams. The Blue Angels and T Birds are great but their planes are out of your field of view so quickly. The Canadian Snowbirds are one of my favorites. They do all the same kinds of maneuvers as the teams with modern jets but they do it with grossly underpowered 1950s vintage trainers. They have to carefully manage energy not just punch the throttles to pull off those impressive stunts. An 6 ship line abreast lop doesnt look so spectacular when done slowly but it is exceedingly difficult to pull off in perfect alignment. The Snowbirds really shine on this one. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

Georger wrote: OK, we will make a place at the CCC shrine for Wallace as well. It is common for US Presidents to take credit for good ideas originating from cabinet members, nothing unusual there. It was a hell of a good idea and the US got a great deal on labor for infrastructure. It was win win. It was pretty rough according to my Dad, lots of fist fights and squabbles, but they got the job done. The CCC saved my Dad from being homeless. I am grateful to Wallace and whoever else started it and made it work so well for so many. Sounds like Wallace really got screwed. I need to read some more US political history, didnt get much while studying EE. Jo still makes a huge deal about Duane's sentence commutation. I too thought it was VERY unusual until Snowmman dug up proof that they were handed out wholesale during that period. It doesnt prove Duane got it for nothing in return, but it sure raises the odds that his was just one of the masses given out back then, presumably to thin the prison population. Jo's idea that the FBI is doing a cover up of Cooper's identity is absurd. It makes ZERO sense to me. Let's find out what would bring Sluggo back to the forum. I hope Galen has found something new to support his theory regarding Gossett. Without some hard evidence it is just going to be another speculative Cooper book. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

Jo wrote: Jo, The CCC was a remarkable program that gave dignified employment to thousands of impoverished Americans and provided us with roads, dams, trails and other infrastructure that is still in use 80 years later. I learned this from my father long before it was taught to me in school. My Dad practically worshipped FDR and for good reason. My father was homeless, jobless and hungry when he was offered work in the CCC. He jumped at the chance to become a corp member and spent the rest of the Great Depression doing hard work, but getting clothed, fed and even a little pay. He credited the CCC for giving him a strong work ethic that endured for the rest of his life. I am not one of those right wingers who attack welfare on all fronts, but for unemployed Americans the CCC type of workfare sure seems like a better alternative. BTW, my Dad did fight many wildfires in the CCC, but as a shovel wielding grunt rather than as a smoke jumper. 377 per 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver.
