How did you get into skydiving?
bob.dino replied to sparknote_s's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I hate heights. So, I decided to learn to skydive . -
BSR for canopy loading (from low turn incident thread)
bob.dino replied to billvon's topic in Safety and Training
A lot of people are missing the point here: The restriction would apply only to people who can't demonstrate sufficient ability to fly a faster/smaller canopy. This ability is developed by obtaining education. Ergo, the whole point of this proposal is to force people to seek education. -
I like this idea lots. Only downside to taking an All Black on a tandem is how difficult a 2m 115kg (6'8" 255lbs) passenger might be... just better hope that Chris Jack always plays well .

BSR for canopy loading (from low turn incident thread)
bob.dino replied to billvon's topic in Safety and Training
I think you may have missed one point of the proposed BSR. You can't fly a smaller, faster canopy until you've proven your ability. Once you've demonstrated your ability to the appropriate person, you're cleared to downsize. So, the only additional hurdle that is being placed in your way is that you need to demonstrate the necessary survival skills before you downsize, rather than when you get into a tight spot under your smaller new canopy. If you don't demonstrate that ability, you're restricted to the WNE chart. -
Share? At our DZ, the ones you're usually expected to buy on are: End of AFF. End of B-rels (compulsory RW training table). Each licence (~25, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000). Each mal. Beer line offence. Oh, and acts of gross stupidity usually count too . I may have missed a couple, but I think that's most...

I was referring more to the "Is this the first time you've jumped this year? Beer!" kind of stuff . I too buy my beer. Plenty of it (two already this year ). I owe another case for my D licence next time I'm out. Skydiving is an expensive ol' sport

Why does she even have access to the account? Find an excuse (better interest rate, lower charges, etc.) to move the account to another bank and set it up just in your name... show her the statements as normal for your financial planning, but she can't get access to the money.

It's a joke & bonding ritual. They don't expect you to buy the fuckin' beer. Except for end of AFF, first licence, 100 jumps, and mals. Lighten up .

Aussies - Skydiving on Today Tonight
bob.dino replied to Travman's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Today Tonight is the one with the "And next, the garden hose that could kill YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!" kind of stories. Very American in style, and directly counterbalanced by A Current Affair on Nine. Both truely horrible examples of trash tabloid journalism at their worst. -
You might try asking in the German Forum. Many Germans have very good English and can probably help you out.

Aussies - Skydiving on Today Tonight

The were allegedly jumping through cloud before CASA said it could be done. I believe they also had issues with the other users of the airport. Most of the long-time jumpers at the DZ should be able to give you the background if you're interested; all my information is second-hand. -
People Beer Challenge ...in no particular order.

6:30pm in Sydney, according to their website. -
It's a self-selected poll. There's a lot more gear customers than gear manufacturers on dz.com .

I've heard rumours to that effect... -
That's damn good. Or 'The Big Sleep'. One of the best Bogart movies.

Just over 200. Almost all 4-way.

pull at right altitude / track to avoid collision
bob.dino replied to lynxie's topic in Safety and Training
Being in the second or third wave would scare me silly! Especially if there's a slow tracker in front of you and a fast one behind you... I've done about ten 35-45 way jumps over the last 6 weeks, and I can tell you that the first couple scared the shit outta me (and massively improved my tracking ). Fortunately, I'm 6'3" and 202lbs out the door, so I have a bit of a natural advantage... despite my less than perfect technique I can still out-track many/most folk. -
pull at right altitude / track to avoid collision
bob.dino replied to lynxie's topic in Safety and Training
There's many canopies (such as my Spectre) that would leave me open illegally low if I dumped at 2200. I prefer to break off the jump a little higher and leave some more wiggle room. But that's just me. You've been doing this a hell of a lot longer than I have... -

Ah right. I missed that! Just checked their calendar and they're running big ways over Easter. Probably nicking one of our Skyvans . And yeah, I agree on the 2.5k for 30+ ways. -
Same for me. Along, of course, with "Don't Fuck Up!"

If you come up to Picton, almost certainly. There's a chance that I'll be down in Nagambie for the Easter boogie, but I've not planned anything as yet... Nagambie is a lovely DZ and Don & Louise are a great couple. All the folk I've met there are damn nice too. -
Boxers; 15-30.
