    USPA Visa

Only if you can't control your spending. I use them a) when I need purchase protection, and b) when I'm ordering over the 'net. I never keep a balance on them - mine is set up to pay off the full balance by direct debit every month. It's just fucking stupid to use them as a form of borrowing.
  2. Just in case any Australian Parachute Members are reading: the APF offer gear insurance. Check out the website.
  3. My goals for the next six months: - Fly my tiny little arse off in 4-way at the Aussie Nationals in Jan. - Sitfly properly. - Do some hybrids. But, most importantly: - Have fun! It's the only one that really matters...
  4. Why not? It's not as if the yeast is going to ferment trouble...
  5. The difference with a dealer is that you're aware of their potential vested interest. I'm with AggieDave on this. If a sponsored jumper declares that fact, then you can adjust your opinion of their recommendations appropriately. If they neglect to mention that they're required to promote the product they're recommending, then I believe they're being unethical. Simply, it's the difference between a disinterested and an interested recommendation.
  6. About no. 175, had a really good 4-way jump. Was all excited and amped up and decided on the spur of the moment to try a downwind landing. Whoops. Next time I should look at the fucking windsock. It was far too windy for someone of my tender experience. A good PLF meant that I got away with some dirt on my rig and an earful from a lot of people. Not gonna do that again in a hurry.
  7. That's a fair enough source. It's probably better that the two of us stop debating the merits or otherwise of the plane, as I think we've both reached the limits of our respective competence in this area . We've both got good sources, but neither of us are pilots... If I can corner one of our pilots at the weekend, I will. I think at least two of them are rated on the XL 750. That said, this weekend is the DZ Christmas party (free !), so my ability to remember anything other than my name may well be severely compromised .
  8. Not sure... I'll try to remember to ask at the weekend.
  9. I'd try to get a primary source for that info if I were you. The one major design flaw I've been informed of* is that the wotsit-thingy** that measures airspeed is aft of the door, so if you stack a bunch of people on the door, they block the intake, which means the pilot no longer knows how fast (s)he's flying . Not being a pilot, I dunno just how critical or otherwise this is. * I don't have the knowledge to verify this. ** technical term.
  10. Forgive the naiveté, but why such insurance problems just 'coz it's a tail dragger? Surely they're not that much harder to fly? edit: we jump 2x skyvans, an otter, a turbine-conversion beaver (away at the moment), and very occasionally a chopper. Can you spell 'spoiled'?
  11. Where do you get this information? I specifically asked a bunch of guys I know that just did an 8-way training camp (c. 70 jumps) out of an XL 750, and they said they'd alsolutely no problems. In fact, they were a little bemused by the question, which makes me wonder why the issue keeps coming up here...
  12. Is a turbine beaver (or conversion) a sensible option? We have one that takes 10 folk to 13.5 in double-quick time. Lovely aircraft, if a little noisy. Not sure of the economics of operating it, but it'll take off with 7 on board.
  13. He has to me, but since I don't fly a wingsuit, and so might get important details wrong, I'll leave him to explain himself . The XL 750 he hit at Nagambie in Australia is well spoken of by everyone I know that's jumped out of it. Including some very experienced folk doing 8-way RW. Not having jumped it myself, I can't comment too much.
  14. Well said. Call this evening, say "Hi, I'd a lovely time. Wanna do it again?" When (s)he says yes, buy sunny a beer.
  15. The Australian Parachute Federation have a chart showing the worth of a Cypres or Cypres 2 over time. Be aware that the figures are in AUD.
  16. Jeb's video is on http://www.skydivingmovies.com. Not sure about the others.

    Best Drunk Food

Hell yeah. And if they're not open and you knock on the back door after 3-4am, most will sell you your fresh croissants or baguettes. Gorgeous.
  18. LCDs are a hell of a lot better than they were 2-3 years ago. If you've not demo'd one in a while, it could well be worth going back and having another look. Ghosting is not so much of a problem anymore. If you're a hardcore FPS kinda person (ghosting), or seriously into graphics (LCD can't do black), then get a CRT. Otherwise, if your budget can stretch, an LCD is a pretty nice alternative.
  19. Where's she returning to? If it's Sydney, there's myself, nael, Lainey, CornishChris, brok3n, etc, etc. If, for some fucking odd reason, she's heading to Perth, she'll have to suffer Squeak's attentions (), and if it's Brissie, there's always DanglesOZQld. Is she an Aussie or a Yank? (ie. does she have mates here, or will she be young and innocent? )
  20. Shit. You mean I've gotta pack myself now? Fuck . Travel safe mate, and we'll see ya soon .
  21. Works at our place. It's a proper tradition and all.
  22. It happened to me, and I'm a bloke. 30 minutes after our first kiss she was planning the next couple of years. Needless to say it didn't work out. We are still friends though. As for the overly pushy bloke: tell him that he's being a bit too forward, and that things need to be taken more slowly.
