Tom, Remember the discussion we had a few months ago about smaller wingsuit and stall speeds etc.? Since then I read Yuri's post about the bigger suit starting to fly faster. So there is no question as to what happens in practice. There is one thing that seems a bit unusual with it. The bigger suit has more 'fill volume' so it must take more time to inflate and thus fly(overcome stall speed?). Blair has experienced that flying off As is faster. The only way to explain both these(atleast what I have come up with) is that the initial movement away from the object is probably due to the bottom surface deflecting air and pushing the jumper away from the object. The tailwind is a factor in Blair's observations. Maybe we associate the feeling of moving away from the object with flying. Kris.

VIDEO - Puerto Rico Freefall Fest 2006: Wingsuit Edition
KrisFlyZ replied to The111's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Nice video and edit. So you let Perry swoop you this time . Kris. -
Are you talking BASE or skydiving? In BASE I would want to throw the PC and make sure that it is not in the burble. Along similar lines, I have thought of a tabbed 'wing cutaway' style leg pouch cutaway; In case you have an impossipul, you can chop off the pouch and kinda tilt or chop wings or whatever to get the air to extract the PC or have a spring throw the PC sideways. Kris.

The way I see it, if Robi(or anyone that has the means and the skills) just wanted to make a suit + rig for themselves that goes faster and further than anything else in the market, they could keep doing just that for a lifetime. Some people are doing that and the result of that will be good. It is really cool that some of them take the effort to make something that everyone can fly at the expense of slowing themselves down. As it has been mentioned already the suits are far ahead of pilot skills at this point in time. Kris.

Thanks Scott , Sam, I already read that review and watched the video(dlmag...it was kinda funny) review as well. You guys are right, the GPS Suunto seems like a total waste. Kris.
-
Suunto has a cheaper and sleeker X9i now. If anyone has any experience with either(X9 or X9i) of these watches, please post. My other choice is the New Garmin Edge 305. The garmin is cheaper but the problem is that a bulky unit is likely to be left on the ground. Kris.

Yuri, That just seems wrong.....it may be that by diving for 1000 ft the generated speed is lasting for the another 2K or so but to think that this extra speed will last for another 10K seems wrong. Also, how many objects allow the extra 10K. Kris.

The WS jumps in Superterminal are all made with the old GTIs... A minute, huh? With his new suit, Andreas will do it in 45 sec :) VKB#11 What is so special about this suit? Neoprene was mentioned, does that make the wings a bit rigid? Kris.
-
Hey Yuri, If you read Robi's "Gravity is my only engine, speed is my only friend" article you will see that VKB and Robi are making the same point. I have some more points to add here but need to get back to work...will come back and edit or make another post. Kris.

Did 2 jumps at a new DZ, first PAC 750 jump so brought beer as well. Kris.
-
Hey Andreas, Can you post more details of the suit please, like the new inlet design and the front. Can't wait for the flight data . Also in Superterminal there is a one minute plus wingsuit flight. The wings look a bit different on the video, can you post details etc.? Kris.
-
Not all winsuits have them inline. They are moved up not down. I think it has something to do with the cosine. Kris.

Update : 19-Feb-2006. Not much to report data wise, neither can I say how much ground *I think* I was covering because the two jumps I did today on the Prodigy were at a new DZ(Hinton Skydiving Center...which is totally awesome BTW) and I am not too sure of the distance references. The pilot of the jump plane(PAC 750 XL) said that he saw me flying after exit( he hadn't started to dive yet...guess what that means? ). The run in speed was 75 knots. He asked if he had knocked me out of the plane by closing the door too soon. The PAC 750 pilot must have a way of closing the door after everyone exits. Kris.
-
Not true...two of the best WS pilots that I know of fly very different speeds for about the same glide. Kris.

Hey where did you get my picture from? I don't remember posting it. Anyhoo....no sweets for me...it took me almost 4 months to lose 12Kgs and now I am back to my normal weight. I think my V1 and Phantom will like the new me. Kris.
-
I would say my skill on the Prodigy is below average at the moment. However, I will be flying it(and the phantom) a lot this season and GPSing the flights as well. I will post my findings/GPS tracks here(don't have a GPS yet). Kris.

Not trying to take sides or anything...this is just what happened last weekend. I took Superterminal(copy) to the DZ....the Radix box has a slot free for an extra DVD....so, I took it in that DVD case. Guess which video got played more times. Kris.

Did four more jumps on the Prodigy today. The issue I was having last week was...sitting down on the floor of the plane caused the jacket to slide up and the pants to slide down and a very cold spot on the back where the cold air was getting in. Doing the jacket under the legstraps and really tightening and tying off the cinch cord, solved this problem. As far as flights go, I have no data that makes sense except people on the ground saying that you were really moving(on the 3400 ish exits with 14 and 20 sec delays). One of the jumps was an exit at 8k flying against the wind in a straight line, but I cannot post any meaningful data. When I flew a demo Prodigy in September, my shoulders were really beat up. I don't have that issue now. This is based on the one flight from 12K and another from 8K. As I put more ump the prodigy more, I will update my thoughts on this. Anyone flying a prodigy with Hanwag shoes? Unable to put tension on the bootie due to this, does it matter much? Kris.

Which shoulder do you look over during deployment?
KrisFlyZ replied to LearningTOfly's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I watch over the right shoulder as I throw the PC on wingsuit jumps only(This not the recommended method...just something that has become my routine). This is just during the split second when the PC is actually released to check that it has cleared the burble. Kris. -
I love the performance(even though I have only 5 jumps that the Prodigy...two of these I did not even fly it correctly(IMO) ) provides. My cons are mostly related to the fact that it is a two piece suit and wonder if these can be solved(you know in a two piece design). For example: If you have to sit on the floor in a plane, the pants slide down and the shirt comes up. This may be due to me being new to the suit or inherent to the two piece design. Kris.
-
Hi Chris, The prodigy has its share of cons...I will be writing a detailed review once I get to put a few more jumps on it. I was just excited that I got to jump and wanted to share. Kris.

Skyflying, Wingsuits in Motion by Scott Campos
KrisFlyZ replied to leroydb's topic in Wing Suit Flying
The only incident(Go Fast Games) in relation to which I heard the Robin Heid's name and that was not a positive one(IMO). If you ignore some of Robin Heid's comments(everyone has their little bit of crazyness) it was a positive review for the book. There are several positive things that the reviewer has said about the book and recommends buying it. Personally, I would never 'buy' a review if it only had positive things to say about something. Nothing in that review to get agitated over unless you are Scott Campos or you are in the millitary. Kris. -
The last time I flew was on September 26, 2005 that made this the longest break I have taken from skydiving ever. It felt so good to be back in the air, even though the temps were freezing. Did three jumps on my Prodigy at Headcorn the exit altitudes were between 2600 and 3600 and the longest delay was 21 secs so not much flying..but I did get it going on the last one before having to turn back....(for those of you that know Headcorn, I was well past the tracks and flying away from the DZ). After nearly 300 wingsuit jumps(200 of these on big suits), I am looking forward to an exciting season of Prodigy flights and not being a big airbrake . Kris. Edited to add: It was hard to believe that there was nothing else to do after opening other then releasing the snaps. Being used to flying suits that require several steps after opening, I was brain locking for a few moments before realizing that there were no more steps needed.

Congrats Miles!! Saw some of the jumps of the record on KnA. 50 plus hikes out of the Canyon is awesome. Kris.
