The Neptune is a great tool. I am not sponsored by them . I won't say it is perfect but it will definately do the job better than anything else out there for wingsuiting. Kris.

Firstly, Klaus is great with support and the product and features are great. Definately well worth the money and more. However, GPS data does not mean anything with out wind speed and direction( among other things ) taken into consideration. This means that the actual path followed itself contributes to the numbers reported. This makes every jump unique. Comparing two jumps may not necessarily be meaningful. Kris. Kris.

What GPS are you using? The edge outputs history in XML format and that suits me very nicely. I use the excel sheet I posted in the other thread in conjunction with Garmin training center which is very cool for data management. I'd like to give your tool a go. Kris.

Where did you get that information (the emphasized bit ) from? Why are you saying the most of the weight is supported by these muscles? Kris

Nick, I understand perfectly the need to wait before updating the list. I not been around in the sport long enough to have noticed a lapse in update times of the list...It is probably a post made by you or someone else if the list should be continued to be updated. For some reason I had this thought in my mind that you had a similar dilemma a while ago. Kris.
-
Is this history repeating itself? Like NickDG stopped updating the fatality list for a while sometime ago... Kris.

Did you beat Costyn then . Kris.

I can't be THE only one No, I did not count you because you own a CrossBow...so does Omar if I remember correctly. It is Gunner(sp?) from FL. Kris.

I am not surprised that the Access and Tracer have a big market here. Even the S-Fly does not have much of a market share in the U.S. I know of just one other guy(in the U.S) that owns an S-Fly. It is a great suit for flocking. But that is a country that has banned french fries . Kris.

SirF chipset works. I have used both ForeTrex 201 and Edge 305 and the edge is much better in regards to re-locating satelites. You cannot go wrong with Scotts suggestion. The ForeTrex 201 and 101 are definately cheaper and work just as well. Kris.

Didn't the "Dead Japp" incident lead to the discovery of the faulty batches of material used in the maufacture of the PCs and to the recall issued by Apex? Kris.

Fly free forever... Kris.

If you are happy with it, it is good. If max time and slow speed are what you want to do...try to do better next time. You fly against yourself...no one else. Kris.
-
Congrats Matt!! I don't get Parachutist here...what was in the picture? I don't belive you'll need USPA's permission to post that . Kris.

Yes, I got an interesting result: To achieve maximum possible horizontal speed, one should fly at glide ratio of square root of 2 (1.41) with minimum possible drag coefficient. Yuri That's BS!! Everyone knows that number must be PHI (1.618) . Kris.
-
I agree. For us folks that do not have a cliff in the backyard...this is a way of amusing ourselves. It is also good spaceout material when I am sitting at my desk and have nothing to do. Kris.
-
O.k, nevermind then Kris.
-
Can that be shared here? Please
-
I understand you are talking about maximum sustained horizontal speed but wanted to point out the following. In the end the overall force vector's angle to the horizon is what results in speed(as Mr 111 pointed out earlier). The arm wings add to this forward force and thus speed. Maintaining the angle is easier if the arm wings are collapsed but the angle can be maintained without collapsing the arm wings at all. The way I see it wing == wing ....round of applause please ... and more force results in the forward direction from having the arm wings open...maybe not fully but enough to form an imaginary 'V' from head to the toes. The thinking is to reduce drag from having outstretched arms. Thoughts? Kris.

Awesome!! Thanks a lot for the videos. What kind of glide is needed to make it to the landing area you landed in (Smellveggan jump)? Kris.
-
Shut up you two . Plane out VKB style....the track is still very steep just not headdown...the initial speed will help the end result because you have entered your 90 sec time slice at a higher velocity( hopefully). Back to the issue of dive... I mean for the prevailing conditions if horizontal speed is less than vertical speed then it is a dive...but I do see your point about just maximizing horizontal speed because glide is not a factor in a race that is limited by time. Which probably means I misinterpreted what Costyn said. Kris.
-
....but I am unable to leave it alone. The way I see it a dive means more vertical speed than horizontal which translates to the person that dives shall not win TrackingDerby. Dive means headlow but headlow does not mean dive. How about diving in the initial few secs (< 15) and using that speed by planing out the dive to start off the 90 sec segment with a speed advantage....VKB style. Congrats on first place. Kris.

Here is a picture that hangs on the wall at our local laundry. Anyone know the jumper? I think I have seen the object in several videos/TV ad for sky? Kris.

If you read the book you will feel let down. The french actress that played Sophie is hot IMO so it was not a total waste and can be entertaining if you have not read the book or switch off critic mode. I even read the book a second time in preparation for watching the movie on the very first show. Kris.

I have no basis to make this assumption but....I was under the impression that 1.0 s a good GR for tracking without tracking garb. What is a good still air glide ratio for BASE jump with 1800' of usable altitude? Kris.
