  1. I have to say no clue man..sorry. They were taken by a Swedish BASE jumper(Big Thanks to him) with a I would like to say a Canon digital camera(cannot be sure). Kris.
  2. Brilliant picture!! Kris.
  3. If the wind does not pressurize the wings the rigid ribs will not help. It is part technique and part inlet design and IMO partly due to a smaller fill volume on the smaller wings. I posted some pics of my exits(I am a pretty inexperienced wingsuit BASE pilot) in a phantom. The arm wings inflate fully between 2-2.5 secs. I doubt that on the smallish wings (probably same size as Phantom wings or a little smaller ) of a Firebird...the ribs will help that much on exit. But that becomes a different issue. Because anyone using a Firebird R for BASE probably doesn't know what s/he is doing or knows exactly what s/he is doing . Kris.
  4. The timeline I am referring to is in the video(WsFlights.mpg...no I won't post another link ). The pictures posted below all fall between a bit after 4 secs and a little after 8 secs. The arm wings are fully inflated in Phantexit4.jpg(arm is not relaxed at elbow as it is in Phantexit3). This is around 2.5 secs after exit. Leg wing is inflated in about 3.5 secs. But the legs are bent(my exit technique anyway) and that probably accounts for a slightly longer inflation time.
  5. As many people have said...folding the suits with Mylar inserts is a pain in the butt. Now imagine having to sit on the floor or an airplane at a bigway or even your home DZ....on an load that is tight on space. Mylar will break or deform permanantly if enough pressure is applied. lets say a rib or two break...now what? Macca...you are missing the point....it may help on big suits but small suits for flying out of the plane are best without mylar. The reward to hassle ratio is pretty small for medium sized suits IMO. Hypothetically, if I was offered mylar for free on my next Phantom purchase...I'd say no thanks....I'll take free gloves instead . As you know I would have flown J's Firebird suit the last time we flew at Headcorn ...but its big for me just as its for you....coz we are the same size. Kris.
  6. Mylar is useless and a pain in the butt for flying out of the airplane.....much more useless on a suit that does not have the biggest wings. Who cares is he has not flown both the suit...what he says is true. Kris.
  7. Hey...I saw him at Hinton earlier this year. I should have his email somewhere if you want it let me know...I'll drop you a PM. Kris.
  8. Oh the sheep...... Your post has nothing to do with the thread in question if you have any concerns please PM me. Kris.
  9. A proper full flight(head low angle and going full speed) pull will be unwantedly hard even when the Nose is rolled. I jump a Vented canopy(BlackJack) so 5-7 loose rolls of the outside cells of the nose are needed. Otherwise the openings are too rough. Of my 21 WS BASE jumps, I have had line twists 2 times 1) Jump1 Packjob details: Nose left unrolled Pull was more or less in belly fall Hard opening and one or half line twist. 2) Jump 15 Packjob details: Nose rolled 5-7 times Pull was in full flight( full speed and head low...don't ask why I did that...and no I was not too low) Really hard opening and one or two line twists...but the opening was so quick it did not give me time to recover from looking at the PC...so I almost expected the line twists as I felt the canopy began to pull me(asymetrically) Here is a video of me( Yeah this post is just a ruse to post a link to my video ); The flight and deployment can be seen clearly. This looks like a full flight opening but is a normal gentle opening. Kris.
  10. Nice work Scott!! Good that so many SDC folks are addicts now . Kris.
  11. Check out the 'Using GPS' link on the paralog website. You should be able to use the instructions there to work out how to use the GPS with Paralog. Kris.
  12. Kallend is not a doctor he is a Professor,..........Professor. I have a PhD, so you may call me "Dr." Not all Dr.'s are professors but most professors are Dr's . Kris.
  13. If you plan on making a Norway trip in the future this information may help you. 1) Insects. Because there is plenty of vegitation and water in Lysebotn, there is a lot of life ( that includes insects ), so bring your insect repellent. 2) Food. You only get pub food at the Kafe ( sometimes pasta and rice and such are served ). When you do 2-3 hikes(jumps) a day a lot of energy is needed and you need to be real rich to afford every meal at the Kafe if you are staying for a long time. My suggestion is to carry some fresh vegetables, fruit and meat/fish. Lots of pasta sauce and pasta/rice. Bread is available in the Cafe and 25 Kr per loaf(lasts 2 days for one person). Fruits and Veg are cheap in norway and amazingly fresh. Seafood in Stavanger is very fresh I had the best shrimp sandwich I've had in my entire life in Stavanger. 3) Fitness and Walking experience Be in some kind of fitness....I can keep my heart rate at 160-170(I am 30 years old) for 50 minutes and it took a couple of days fo hiking to get used to the Hikes. I was the slowest on the first few days I was there. Walking experience specifically on steep rocky hillsides will help. Good shoes will also help...just make sure you have worn them some or you may miss a day or two of jumping with blisters. If you get stuck taking the Tourist Ferry mention that you are a BASE jumper to get a 50% discount on the ticket price. Carry some Sunscreen. I am from India and I am a few shades darker from this trip..maybe even carry a hat that can be stowed away easily for the jump. Kris.
  14. I just got back to Stavanger(sitting in the library) after staying at Lysebotn (the whitehouse ) for 16 days. I had a great time and will be back there next year. Norway is one of the more expensive places in europe. If you turn up there without planning your budget, you may be surprised at how expensive things are. Olav, Najette, Kristina and the Lysebotn tourist center employees were great. Kris.
  15. It is 100 nok per tent plus 20 nok per person. It is 180 nok for the white house. Kris.
  16. The math is interesting but it does not give me an erection anymore . FWIW. Learning to fly in as close to a straightline as possible is more important for getting max glide than anything else. Learning to fly with total concentration and without as much as a twitch is what will put one on the path to learning to fly at their best glide. Looking at a road or the tandem that left before you or anything else will just make the process of learning slower. In the end is all this calculating not about learning to fly efficiently? Kris.
  17. Yeah its a different ball game in the dense air. I was reading the manual for the new alti-track and while explaining how they calculate SAS, it says a jumper that is falling at 62 m/sec at 12000 ft falls at 50m/sec at 4000 ft(all else being equal). But still 2:30 is impressive(if the rumour is true and depending on how high the 'funghi shaped rock' is ) considering 150 secs is a struggle for most skydivers. So they don't fly in a straight line...but still. Kris.

    V-2?

Mine arrived this morning. Well it actually arrived yesterday but I only collected it this morning. As I ran to the door all excited and stuff....the door locked behind me. I was in the corridor with my V2 and no keys, phone or money....anyway....I negotiated that problem and am at work for the next few hours. Sorry folks no pics. The arm material is different. Other than that I did not unfold the suit so no pics. Voodew and co should post pics soon enough anyway. Kris.
  19. I have not been there yet but have been corresponding with Olav and Najette and they were very helpful with the letter to the Norwegian Embassy and even when I changed my booking dates. One thing I noticed was that the rates for a bunk bed were 180NOK( they did say normally for this period) but the website says 250NOK. So what was the rate in the end? Hopefully this was just a Heliboogie thing, too many people and too much demand thing. Kris.

    Norway

When do you get there? I leave this friday evening (LHR) and will be taking the ferry on saturday morning. What is roughly the daily expense for food and other stuff? I know it varies but just a rough guesstimate for someone that is well stocked with provisions for the duration of the stay. Based on my last trip, it tends to get very expensive if little things are left unplanned. How long are the hikes? What do people take for eating during the hikes? Is there an ATM in Lysebotn? If there is one, what cards does it accept? I will be getting some kind of a hydration system that I can stow away easily for jumping. Any suggestions? Kris.
  21. The trick is to use vector algebra, not scalar. Then you can cancel out the wind vector, so its actual direction and speed don't matter. Whatever dude.... You have made some very impractical assumptions in the simplification to assume that the wind cancels out. Kris.
  22. I loved it. Watched every minute of it. Kris.
  23. This Tu Pac On topic...Congrats BMIs. Kris.
  24. Hey, I thought Tu Pac was from the USA. Kris.
