why do they find it appropriate to chop off part of his penis just to make it "look better"? Circumcisions are done for a lot of reasons besides "just to make it look better." I chose not to have my child circumcised, but there's a lot more to the decision than what a penis looks like. I think that's true for most parents, though I'm sure not all. I do think it's clear that there can be health risks associated with being uncircumcised. I decided to teach my child to be healthy. But who knows if that will actually work.... It's obvious that in some areas of the country there are social issues around circumcision. Boys still shower together in the locker room. It's a real consideration when you make a decision about what you want for your child. Either way, again, it's just one of many decisions parents make for their children. Have we yet seen to the farthest reaches of the universe? Do we believe that it continues without end? Why? There is no evidence. I think that's one of those things that we have ideas about, but as we learn more those ideas will change dramatically, at least for people whose belief systems are flexible enough to incorporate new knowledge. Unfortunately, though, teenagers who lack a conscience and are capable of these heinous acts very rarely develop one during their lifetimes....much less by the time they're 21. This isn't an issue of maturation. A very immature person with a conscience is incapable of this type of violation of another human being. A person who IS capable of this kind of behavior, regardless of his/her age and maturity is highly unlikely to grow into someone whose contributions to society outweigh the damage he inflicts (it would take a helluva huge contribution). And the damage he inflicts is harmful enough, imho, to warrant locking him away for the rest of his life. Yeah. Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you. A year or so ago I was stopped for going 70 in a 55 zone, and the officer asked me for my license and my proof of insurance. I had my license, but couldn't find a recent insurance card--but I assured him that it hadn't changed since this older one that I handed him. He asked me where I was employed, so I told him. He asked me if my address was correct on my driver's license. I told him that it was not (I had moved more than a year before then). He explained to me why it would be good to change my address on my license, and then he gave me three warnings. (I had a brake light out too). Before he stopped me again I had put my proof of insurance in my glove box. But I still didn't have my address changed. I think it's highly likely that where there are poor people (the South), there are a lot of unhealthy people. Also where there are poor people, there are working (and voting) people who would rather use their often-meager earnings to put food on their own tables than on those of the people who are on the government rolls. They vote Republican because they don't see how they can afford to pay more taxes, which they believe they will pay otherwise. Even hard-working people often barely make ends meet. That's obviously not random chance, and it's not causation....just correlation. Never once have I voted for a republican. Maybe I'm a yellow dog democrat. I like to think it's those nasty Republicans who like to skew statistics to make an inaccurate statement about the other side.
