What you're talking about now is people being hypocritical. That's not the point. It certainly doesn't hold for all conservatives or all rednecks any more than it holds for liberals. You say that people who are conservative are "rigid." Like many people here, a lot of them don't like gays, they think it's murder to have an abortion....and so on. I think it's pretty closed-minded of people (especially people who are self-professed to be "open-minded"--would that be hypocritical) to automatically dismiss these folks because of their political views. Most of the time I think you can hold them to their own standard just fine, if that's really what you want to do. Most of 'em aren't running around doing what they preach against. Most of 'em aren't denouncing abortion while scheduling one for next week.... Yep. I get one every year and never got sick. Just about everyone I work with gets one every year too. In the past 6 or 7 years I haven't known anyone among these folks who has gotten sick with the shot. It obviously heppens to some folks though. Is there a culture where stealing among themselves (not from their enemies, not when times are tough and people steal to survive) just simply stealing among your own community to have what you don't have. Is there a culture where that is valued? I don't know that values like "stealing is wrong" is something that's innate. I think it's probably learned. In what society is the person/group who makes laws and/or carries out punishment not the same group who has something to steal. When you see that your hand gets cut off if you steal, then you teach your children not to do that. Actually my theory (not argument) is: There are universal morals To me that logicaly points to a universal creator of morals. So, if a person doesn't have a problem with stealing another man's money, or sleeping with another man's wife, he and his cronies should get a pass, because in their minds it's OK? What I do have a problem with is this gov't making things illegal because God says it is bad. That's the important distinction right there. Even though many of us share similar values/morals, not all of us think that legislating our own morality is the right thing to do. I think that having basic respect for other people would keep us from trying to limit other people's choices in life to those that fit into one constricted view of what's right and wrong. -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged.
