OMG Jack!!! I am SO sorry to hear about Bugs, and even when you know the time has come and know that she's had a good life, it's still the hardest thing in the world. I had to put my 15 y/o companion Emmie to sleep in January, and I really miss her terribly. Hugs to you and Lynn..... Peace~ Lindsey

I hate that this thread has caused so many hard feelings. I also LOVE jumping with women. Most of my jumping buddies have been men (and I'm SO GLAD to have y'all as friends), but estrogen loads have always been my favorite although few and far between. That's how I feel, and it's what I like. If somebody wants to make fun of or disagree with my wanting to jump with women, then that's okay with me....because if there's any bad juju, it's on that person, not on me. But either way, I don't think it's worth getting bent out of shape over. I say laugh and shake it off. Getting mad at folks only makes the rift deeper and more permanent. Tonight my 7 y/o son explained to me why he needed more than one wood, 3 irons and a putter. I told him that I'd be happy to tie a rock to the end of a stick if he so desired, but that I wouldn't buy anymore golf clubs until he was proficient with the ones he has....lol. You're right. One more, more-specialized club won't make a person more happy. I am, though, very glad that my kid can have golf clubs that fit him. In the big scheme of things, golf clubs don't matter one iota, but I'm grateful that I was born in a place that has such things (and others) for our amusement. Peace~ Lindsey

The supposed JLC situation is that she has androgen insensitivity. Here's the deal with that. It takes a Y chromosome for a person to develop testes rather than ovaries and a uterus, and it requires testosterone for a person to develop a penis rather than a vagina. Any person will naturally develop a female phenotype without those things. So a person with a Y chromosome (male) will develop testes. If he isn't for some reason sensitive to the testosterone that he produces, he will naturally develop the lower 2/3 of the vagina, but no cervix and no uterus. A person would probably not be aware of this problem until he/she hit puberty and didn't start a period. Anyway...it's not a problem of ambiguous genitalia or something when a person's parents choose to make their child into a female....in case folks were getting that idea.

I have to wonder how hippies in the Phish days resemble the hippies who followed the Dead when Phish was spelled fish....lol. That just struck me kind of funny. I was never a hippie myself though I went through a trendy hippie phase in the 80's, and followed the Dead around for a bit. But I always returned to the comfort of my air conditioned home.

I didn't think that what Jeffrey wrote was asinine. I thought that fining Bridget Bardot for speaking her mind was asinine. I'm not so concerned, myself, about the issue though, because it did happen in (ahem) France?! I don't see THAT great of a comparison between our social policies and theirs. But I'm also not the most educated person on political topics, so maybe I'm just wrong. Peace~ Lindsey

That is asinine!!!! I am thankful that we have the right to free speech, protected by the Constitution. But we also have the right to keep and bear arms, and the validity of that right has certainly been debated. I hope that the lengths of our hate crimes legislation would end far before this point, but who knows. I DO support hate crimes laws, though. In this example the only thing she did was speak. There was no crime perpetrated on an individual motivated by hatred towards a race or nationality or whatever. I'm relatively vocal about my concerns that we are losing our personal freedoms at an alarming rate, but this one just really doesn't raise much of an eyebrow for me.

I don't think that I've ever jumped anywhere that I wouldn't jump at again (even Pecan Grove...lol), but if a pilot refused to give me a go-around, then that's not a place I want to be. WTF is THAT? It would never dawn on me that a dz's policy might be to refuse a go-around when the spot is bad. Lindsey

Being a static line student in the South in the springtime....I probably spent more days NOT jumping due to wind or rain than jumping, but I still jumped a helluva lot because I was ALWAYS there, whenever the dz was open, and sometimes I coerced the dzo to open so a few of us could jump on an occasional uncloudy weekday afternoon . Rick--I hope it wasn't me that you're talking about. I don't think so, but maybe.... It makes me uneasy too, and after getting use to the idea of having a child which may have taken me longer than some, I came to the same conclusion as you. It makes me REALLY uneasy for me and Jesse to be in the air at the same time. I won't be on the plane with him, and I really don't understand how others can make any different decision. But eventhough I don't grasp it, I do try to respect others' abilities at parenting, and their decisions. Please just tell me it's not me.... Your OLD friend~ Lindsey -

Of course the vaaaaast majority of my jumps have been from Cessnas. My favorite was board jumps (back when I did that)....and maneuvering from the back when I had to sit there....takes some (ahem) flexibility....lol! Peace~ Lindsey

I think that I have a lot of empathy and compassion, but my ability to identify with what someone else is going through does not cause in me a need to rescue them. Rescue people too often and they just might come to think that it's your DUTY to rescue them. It enables people to become lazy and to fail to reach their potentials. I think there's definately a place for social services and hand-outs, but I lean a lot more towards the "help others to help themselves" line of thinking.
