The Family : The Real Story of the Bush Dynasty -- by Kitty Kelly
meltdown replied to quade's topic in Speakers Corner
Let's see: first the Michael Moore "documentary", now this....what other pre-election surprises do you suppose the entertainment left have up it's sleeve? I can't wait to see what George Soros' millions are going to buy! -
I'm sure they will only bid it out to other evil, capitalistic, oppressive companies run by white males that have bought their way into the good graces of the Bush/Cheney cabal. Between all of 'em surely they can make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, wash a shirt and stick a bucket in the ground.

Anyone interested in this topic should consider checking out a book called "The New World War". It is written by a cultural anthropologist who spent some time immersing himself in the radical islamist culture. Pretty scary stuff to say the least.

I think half this country already thinks that Martin Sheen is the president, so why not?

And I thought I was the only one driving around with a headless guy in my car.

Probably the biggest ones are: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (Hunter Thompson) Cat's Cradle (Kurt Vonnegut) -

Albums/CDs That Have Transformed You & Your Musical Tastes?

We (I'm the drummer) got together to headline a festival in Amsterdam a few months ago, and now we're working on finishing up our 3rd record. We'll be recording over the next few months. You must've been roomies with Jason, I suppose? -

Dude, I can't believe you mentioned Watchtower. Look for a new album in a few months! Rick -
I think you have to send it to the manufacturer, and I think they're in France (at least that's what I've heard). I bought a used one from someone and it was so inaccurate that I gave it back and got my money back. Buy a galaxy instead.

I've done 119 in the past 12 months (I started last September), about 90 of those this year.

My main is a Spectre 150, and reserve is a PD 143. On my 1 reserve ride, the 143 seemed to fly bigger than my main (or at least that's how it seemed as I watched my main float away). I was a little afraid of the 143 - and considered upsizing it - until I flew it.
-
Thanks for your help. I tightened the closing loop and that seems to make it more secure. I'll probably try the rubber band thing too. I'm a little paranoid because my wife had a nasty premie a couple weeks ago and I really want to avoid that.
-
186 and counting but since I normally pack for myself I am not planning on having one ever, but time will tell ________________________________________________ That's what I thought too...until jump #82
-
I've got 115 jumps and I load my Spectre at 1.1. That's as fast as I want to go for now. I've had to run a few in and I just can't run that fast anymore. Anyway, one little mistake at that loading and OUCH. Please be careful!
-
I don't know shit, but.... 1.4 with 53 jumps? YIKES. Hope you have insurance.

Thanks for the info. I'll pull the rig apart tonight and check it out. I also need to talk to the rigger who last packed the reserve. He's only at my home DZ a couple times a month. I showed our "regular" rigger the rig last weekend, and he didn't mention anything about the way the reserve is packed or closing loop length. If I have any questions when I'm measuring the closing loop I'll PM you. Thanks, Rick
-
The main is a Spectre 150. I've crammed a 170 in there previously. The rig is in pretty good shape overall. I wouldn't begin describe it as "unravelin", although that's pretty damn funny.

My reserve flap has tuck tabs (2), one each on the left and right sides. It stays very secure. No problem with riser covers either. The main flap folds and tucks under from the bottom. It does not seem nearly as secure as the reserve flap. And since it opens from the bottom, that makes it particularly susceptible to coming open during a sitfly.
-
I was doing a 2 way sitfly this weekend and when I got on the ground was informed that my main flap was open during freefall. I was wondering if others were having the same problem and what can be done to correct it. The container is a '97 Javelin J2, all standard (no articulation or added features other than bridle protection mod). I've seen tons of people freeflying Javelins and wasn't aware of any problems until now. Thanks in advance.

I started last year at 39, I'm 40 now. Coincidentally, right about the time I started I got a huge raise which allows me to jump without going broke. Funny how these things work.

Do you think my wing-loading is too high? Plz?
meltdown replied to xavenger's topic in Safety and Training
In my newbie opinion your WL is too high. I started with a 170 loaded at .94, then moved to a 150 loaded at 1.1 at about 70 jumps. I am not planning on downsizing again anytime soon. The 150 is plenty quick, especially in no wind. If I were jumping anything smaller I'd be scared shitless. -
If you can find a reasonably priced used cypres, I'd go for that first. I got tired of looking and bought a brand new Cypres 2, then a couple days later a couple of used ones showed up in the classifieds.. Of course, I won't have to worry about batteries anytime soon.

Which mechanical altimeter do you like better?
meltdown replied to cvfd1399's topic in Gear and Rigging
I like the Galaxy. I've been using one for about a year (me and my wife take turns with it). I bought an FT-50 as a second alti and it's not nearly as accurate, so I returned it and got another Galaxy. -
Well, I don't know who this "asaptrades" guy is, but he obviously has a personal vendetta against someone at SSM. That said, Skydive San Marcos is one hell of a dropzone. Whether you're a 1 time tandem jumper or a regular fun jumper, you're gonna love this place. Nice plane, helpful staff, pool, air conditioned packing, great parties, and excellent atmosphere. There are lots of fun jumpers of all levels/disciplines, so finding someone to jump with is not a problem. I've been to a few other DZ's, but SSM is my home DZ and that will not change. And I've NEVER been told to pull low, contrary to what that other guy says.
