  1. Yeah, I know it's possible that it's gonna pop again. That's why I'm working it out several times a day. Short of surgery, that's about all I can do. I've talked to people who have had good results with and without surgery - I just hope I end up falling into the "good results without surgery" group. Next time I see the doctor I'm going to ask him which position leaves me more exposed, boxman at 120 mph or sitfly at 150 mph. He'll probably just shake his head and laugh.
  2. Thankfully it's the left, so I can still pull if it goes in freefall. But it is a little scary coming back, that's for sure. I just ordered a brace to wear which may help some. I'm just going to be very careful about body position, and especially jumping in groups. We'll see how it goes I guess.
  3. I dislocated my shoulder on Dec. 26th exiting from the Skyvan (I was swinging out the door intending to hang from the bar). Due to my age (41), my doctor recommended against surgery, unless it happens again. I have been going to physical therapy for 6 weeks now and am planning on jumping next weekend(the 18th). I have about 90% range back now, and it feels pretty good. I plan on getting a brace to use at least for awhile. Since I've been injured I have found that dislocations seem to be a fairly common occurence in skydivers. Some people also have "looser" joints and are more prone to dislocations than others. I'd say about half the skydivers I've talked to with this problem have had it fixed surgically, the others have not. I think how well it heals depends a lot on how much you put into rehabilitation (I exercise/stretch it several times a day, in addition to the PT). Good luck with it.
  4. I started at about 40 jumps, mainly because I couldn't find people to jump with and I was sick of doing belly solos. If you do start freeflying, make sure you have the right container for it.
  5. I've been involved in a few real estate transactions, and the best advice I can give is this: expect that everyone involved is trying to screw you(including your own agent). Make sure you read and understand all of the closing paperwork. The last house I sold there was a $1200.00 screwup on the closing docs, and if it weren't for me catching it, I would have been out that cash. Also, when you get the place inspected, be there and ask lots of questions. Home inspectors are not all created equal, and I've had inspectors miss major problems. And don't expect your real estate agent to watch your back. Of the realtors I've worked with, I'd say the vast majority are either incompetent, or just don't give a shit. Pay attention to the details...all of them.
  6. That's pretty much the rule in San Marcos. One thing about the pies though...around here there's liable to be ANY nasty thing in there, such as spoiled milk products, leftover cole slaw or beans, etc. It took a hosing off and 2 showers to remove the stench.
  7. 383 hits. Pretty much all me I think. Google my name
  8. skydivers, ain't got shit to do sit at their computer, sippin' a brew suckin' off their boss, thinkin' they's da bomb hanging like ho's at dropzone.com
  9. At our DZ, it's usually about the time they open the door. Almost as if "DOOR" had an implied "BACK" in front of it.
  10. Dude, that sucks. How did you figure your taxes? I used TaxCut, but the result I got was not what I expected (owing $1200.00), so I did them free with the Turbotax link to the IRS web site, and voila, now I only owe $127.00. I would double check your figures - $4000 is a lot to owe, and if it's true, you'll probably get hit with an underpayment penalty too.
  11. I was having problems with my Javelin J2 main flap coming open. Since tightening my closing loop (really really tight) and putting a rubber band on the tab I haven't had any more problems. Also, the way the reserve was packed the last time (more towards the top of the container) has also made a difference.
  12. I think that for a lot of people marriage seems like a good idea at the time, but after a few years they lose interest and drift apart, or just stop working at it. Also, I think people get married thinking the spouse will change over time and become more to their liking. This rarely seems to happen. Then there is the compromise factor. A successful marriage always includes some compromises from both parties. People aren't always willing to make those concessions which results in problems. You must also be willing to give up some freedom if you choose to have kids. It can be a tough balancing act, but well worth the effort in my opinion.
  13. San Marcos is jumping today. Too bad I"m grounded
  14. Well, since I can't jump for 2 more months, BRING ON THE RAIN!
  15. FYI, not all Republicans are "extremists", or even Christians, for that matter. That's like saying all lefties are spiking trees and burning down SUV dealerships. What is this thread doing here, anyway?
  16. My scariest was my last jump. Rolled out of the skyvan hanging onto the bar, realized I'd messed up my shoulder, and let go. Held a pretty good sit until about 6K, then rolled onto belly. OUCH! Deployed my canopy, then spent the next couple of minutes trying to figure out how I'm going to land with one arm. Tried both 2 handed and one handed (both toggles in 1 hand) flares up high, decided to go with the 2 handed option. Hit the ground hard but managed to avoid further injury. Went to the emergency room where they popped my dislocated shoulder back in. Out for another 2 months
  17. I've been on many loads where a large RW group exiting first don't even start to move to the door until the green light comes on. Then they mosey on back, stick their heads out for a few seconds to spot, and begin climb out, if they feel so inclined. Of course, another 15-20 seconds goes by before they actually get out of the plane. I'm not usually one to yell "GO", but there are times when someone needs a kick in the ass. This assumes an acceptable spot, of course, which you don't always get.
  18. I think I'll just hangout outside the window of their loft dressed like this. _________________________________________________ Why don't you put on something that's not your usual attire?
  19. please, make sure you tell your doc that you are an athlete and will be putting strain on that joint. hopefully, he will refer you to physical therapy. _____________________________________________ Oh yeah, he knows exactly what I intend to do (same guy fixed my wife's ankle about a year ago!). I'm going for an MRI tomorrow, and if there's no rotater cuff damage it's on to therapy. It looks like about 3 months off from jumping.
  20. It'll probably take Douva a couple of days just to unpack that lunchbox....errr...helmet.
  21. The hard way is never fun. Guess I won't be doing that exit anymore. I'm just hoping I can still sitfly without my body falling apart.
  22. when you say "roll out" did you lie on your belly and do a forward roll out so you ended up back to earth/relative wind... _________________________________________________ Yes, exactly. I guess I had one arm more tensed up than the other, or something. Can't say for sure - it went by so quick.
  23. Yeah, that was me with the sling on my arm. It sucked getting hurt but I still had a kick ass time. Next year will be better.
  24. More details? How exactly? _______________________________________________ I was on the floor holding the bar, and trying to gently roll out, but when I got there (beneath the plane) my arm was toast. I must have twisted it or somehow put too much pulling pressure on the joint while rolling out of the plane.
