  1. just keep working on it. like some other people said, you need to transition slower from hard arch to getting big. once you get enough jumps, it becomes really natural. don't stress out over it
  2. I would say get a basic RW suit... no booties, no inner-knee grips. you can learn the basics in that, and if you decide you like RW, you have a suit. if you decide that you want to get into freeflying, you can use the suit for sitflying if you don't have booties. or you can use the old longsleeved tshirt and shorts to learn sitflying. when and if you move on to headdown and stuff, you can then buy a FF suit with all the bells and whistles. "The jet originates from the polish airforce" hmmmmm... I now wish to change my bid from $12,000 to 5 bucks. MB 3528, RB 1182
  4. my family's computer did that a while ago... it would freeze at the "shutting down computer" screen, and we would just yank the power cord. I think windows was just doing its usual f*cked up stuff. Didn't notice anything strange because of it. later I had to replace the hard drive because it somehow became very badly corrupted. don't know if the 2 are related... MB 3528, RB 1182
  5. officially its 14 mph. unofficially, its whatever the instructor decides. I have seen at some dzs, if there is a heavy student under a smaller student canopy... (like a 230), the instructor lets them jump in 20+ mph winds with a stern lecture over what to do if they start getting pushed back under canopy. its one of those things that its probably safe MB 3528, RB 1182
  6. hmm interesting and if you believe that story your nephew told you, I've got some oceanfront property in kansas I can sell you MB 3528, RB 1182
  7. may you slowly burn in hell!!! and I got to go to the beach today... mind you it was 40 degrees with 30 mph winds and the only fish biting were little tiny ones... on the plus side, at least you can't jump either! MB 3528, RB 1182
  8. how long has it been since you stopped jumping? if its been like 20 years, you may have to do more than 3 jumps in that first month to get yourself used to the new equipment, planes, rules etc. but if its been like 1 year, once you get current, in my opinion, 3 jumps a month is ok as long as you play it safe... i.e. don't take up swooping. according to the uspa, 3 times a month is more than enough to keep you current. I have around 140 jumps now, so I'm safe to answer this right? MB 3528, RB 1182
  9. uhhh out of curosity, how old are you? no offense, but in that photo you look 15 or something MB 3528, RB 1182
  10. welcome to the forums so do you all not jump in the winter in ohio? well, feel free to come on down to KSUPC in kansas... we jump all winter. usually pretty short load wait times when its 10 degrees... don't know why MB 3528, RB 1182
  11. is it just me or isn't Cheryl getting way too much attention for something she hasn't done yet? I mean you can book her for speeches and stuff, and yet she hasn't done the jump. Isn't that like me saying I'm planning on jumping from 300,000 feet in 10 years, and then making money off it? MB 3528, RB 1182
  12. I've also had one of mine fall out of my eye in a tracking dive, when I was just wearing goggles and no helmet. I've discovered since then that you either have to cinch down the goggles till they hurt, or put a helmet on... it helps keep the goggle straps down. After I bought my Z1, I haven't had a problem since. MB 3528, RB 1182
  13. ahhhh thank you both, just listened to it... its the correct one. my ears are now happy MB 3528, RB 1182
  14. interesting... (whenever you find out whatever spybot you have send it to me... it sounds like it makes dz.com more fun ) but seriously, get ad aware. its free, and works well. MB 3528, RB 1182
  15. I hear this metallica song all the time on the radio, but of course they announce its title before they play it, and so i don't pay attention. I believe it is a cover maybe, and its kinda fast paced. (as in not like "unforgiven") the chorus starts off each time with a guitar going "daaaa danananana na naa, daaaa danananana na naaa" of course I can't remember the words in the rest of the song, but I do remember a few phrases. "Here I am in prison!" "I say 'Ray ma da du da daa'" arrrgghhh its driving me nuts. does anybody know the name of this song, or even what cd its from? MB 3528, RB 1182
  16. amen to that. I have done this a couple times on my triathalon. I didn't hold it long enough to check if I was flying backwards, but I could definitely feel myself falling a lot faster. And I definitely stopped getting forward speed. And its also true about letting the toggles up slowly at the end... I forgot about that, and I let em up real quick, and the canopy gave me a nice popping noise and whipped me around. I can tell you, its not fun when you think you just ripped a seam under canopy MB 3528, RB 1182
  17. you must have one hell of a big container or something... I can barely get my canopy in there, much less adding in a phone book. MB 3528, RB 1182
  18. gee thats a lot of uhhh... industrial haze in the backround of your pics. MB 3528, RB 1182

    Kazaa Lite

I used direct connect for the longest time and loved it. It works because you can only get onto servers where you are sharing the minimum amount they specify. So if you can share 20 gigs of stuff, you get onto a server where there is 400 users all sharing 20 gigs each.... thats like 8000 gigs of stuff to download [salivate icon] MB 3528, RB 1182
  20. That cross thing is exactly what I was thinking. Another way to think about it, imagine if some whuffo started calling themself a rodriguez (sp?) brother, or pink mafia member, or some type of skymonkey thing... wouldn't any of you that hold those honors be just a little offended? MB 3528, RB 1182
  21. search the forums. I'm pretty sure that I have seen a couple threads about this... might have some good info in them. MB 3528, RB 1182
  22. my dz is actually a college club, and so we pay $10 per semister ($20 bucks a year). We also do our gear rentel fees the same way... its $25 per semister to use the club gear as many times as you want. I've never bothered to ask exactly what the membership fee goes to... I imagine its helps pay for the plane and such. MB 3528, RB 1182
  23. I had an off-landing this summer that was pretty fun. Spot was fine, but I was jumping with someone who had like 30 jumps, and he got his foot tangled in the cessna seatbelts on climbout , so by the time we left, we were way off. At 1000 feet I realize I'm not gonna make it back, so I find a field to land in. Meanwhile I watch the low-timer with his huge student canopy float right back to the dz. After I land, I hear a loud buzzing, turn around just in time to catch the pilot fly by at about 10 feet over me, to check if I was ok. Coolest thing was, is that he radioed the dz, and they send out an atv to pick me up. Most annoying part was when I pull in, and the other jumper stares and me and asks seriously "Why didn't you make it back... I did." MB 3528, RB 1182
  24. I guessed 1. Out of all the students trained the same semester that I did, (around 80), only I actually became licensed. MB 3528, RB 1182
