  1. I just use an optical one. I kinda understand what you mean... once you get used to using a track wheel, its such a pain in the *ss to use just a plain ol' two button mouse. MB 3528, RB 1182
  2. I'm only 20. The best thing about my DZ is that its a college club, so almost all our student jumpers are 18-23 or something. MB 3528, RB 1182
  3. I actually agree here, but for a different reason. I would say don't worry about buying a helmet yet, since you can use your school's helmets free of charge. After you get off student status, THEN you can decide what kind of helmet you want, be it a protec or something else. Until then, I would say goggles, gloves, and a hand-mounted altimeter; in that order. MB 3528, RB 1182
  4. are you sure about this? According to that rule, I need to gain around 40 lbs to stay with the formations. I can stay with all the people at my DZ just fine, without weights or a special jumpsuit. So someone who is 5'8" needs to weigh 207 lbs naked? Thats seems kinda heavy to me. MB 3528, RB 1182
  5. I've gotten into this argument before with a chick. She said that cheerleading is more of a sport than skydiving. Her explanation: High Schools always list cheerleading as a sport, and you usually see skydiving called an "activity". MB 3528, RB 1182
  6. download this one cool program called SIMStudy. It quizzes you over all the stuff you need to know. MB 3528, RB 1182
  7. maybe have them track along a road. Then they tell you what they were directly over as they pulled, and you drive out to that point using the odometer. uses the honor system, but its feasible. MB 3528, RB 1182
  8. I did from about jump 60-100. Now I get to have a higher limit, and I *think* I fit in it. MB 3528, RB 1182
  9. just 1 naked jump for me. you don't have to worry about stuff flopping around chopchop... I just tossed mine over my shoulder and jumped out. MB 3528, RB 1182
  10. practice, practice, practice. At home, at work, at the DZ. Also, you have to be quick... like someone else said, if you hesitate, the canopy is already opening, and usually jerks you around, making the pull harder to do. MB 3528, RB 1182
  11. My still-air jump. Its just so amazing to be at total silence, then the wind noise starts to build up. MB 3528, RB 1182
  12. make sure you try all sorts of exits. I'm not sure what plane your DZ has, but there all tons of fun exits you'd never think of untill you ask. you can always just tuck into a ball, and just roll out. Stay tucked up for a bit (peek at your alti or count to 10 or something) you can really get spinning pretty good. MB 3528, RB 1182
  13. I agree. "Hustle and Bustle" are closely related, but cannot be described as synonyms. ahh gotta love postwhoring MB 3528, RB 1182

you talking about the gesture with 1 finger or 2? MB 3528, RB 1182
  15. eating the bodies of the departed!?!? thats necrophelia!!!!! MB 3528, RB 1182
  16. do we really need two nearly identical posts in the gear forum by the same guy? that being said, skydiving is something you have to learn. You can't just buy a rig and go jump it. Start an AFF or static line course, and you'll learn the basics before you even worry about buying a rig. MB 3528, RB 1182
  17. ugh could we please not turn this into a politics thing? MB 3528, RB 1182
  18. Yeah but I heard it was Russians jumping into stalingrad and it was the germans who painted the rocks white. my friend swears this is true... MB 3528, RB 1182
  19. ahh the mark of a true skydiver. welcome MB 3528, RB 1182
  20. wow. Where do you find out information like this? Is there a site? or, would anybody happen to know the state record for kansas? MB 3528, RB 1182
  21. I have twice dropped one of those little disposible cameras in free fall, and I've always wondered, can they survive the fall? The reason I ask is that I recently dropped one of them, and it had like 20 photos of my skydiving pals exiting the plane or under canopy. I don't care if the camera won't work anymore, but I do want the film from it. Has anybody ever dropped one of these and found it? Was the camera broken or ok? Were you able to get the pictures developed and how did they turn out? If it matters, the camera had a pull-up cord tied to it (extra drag maybe?) and landed in a grassy field. And it was dropped from 2.5k I just don't want to spend 3 hours searching a meadow if the film is already a complete waste. MB 3528, RB 1182

Is it possible that someone just photoshopped in the sign? I can't tell. MB 3528, RB 1182

A guy I know put that on his door. I watched a chick almost cry when she saw it. MB 3528, RB 1182
  24. how many kittens must you help CrazyIvan kill before you're happy!?!? (note to greenies: not a personal attack, I'm just messing around) MB 3528, RB 1182
  25. At my DZ we jump at full altitude all through the winter... I believe it only gets down to about 10 F here at altitude though. But to answer your question, I haven't seen anybody at my DZ have their face shield ice up. If you go with full face, just leave the visor up until you are about to step out the door. Open faced helmets can get really cold with a 120 mph windchill, but you don't really notice it then. Its only under canopy that you really feel it. Try an open face with a bandanna or "face-sock" thing, I see lots of people do that. MB 3528, RB 1182
