  1. True, but I personally don't relate to Palin as someone similar to myself. I probably relate more to Obama and Biden, though I don't really relate to any of the candidates on that level. Their lives all seem to be vastly different from my own. So when she uses her "one of us" line, I just assume she's talking to someone other than me. Which is fine; I'm obviously not the vote she's looking for.
  2. I don't think there was any reason for him to say that. It was pretty obvious to anyone with half a brain. And those without half a brain would have just said that he was being condescending if he pointed out her inability to answer a question.
  3. What do you think that he should do as VP, if he disagrees with Obama about something, beyond giving his best advice?
  4. I can't believe I'm defending the gal, but I don't think that's an unreasonable answer. Teddy Roosevelt, Harry Truman, Lyndon Johnson all built upon the legacy of their predecessors to a degree; but their administrations were THEIR administrations. There can only be one President, and that's the one that's in office today, not yesterday. Her job, her prerogative. Fair enough. I just thought she sounded too enthusiastic about it. But I guess she's in a position where she's trying to prove that she is ready to be President if need be, so it was probably a more difficult question for her to answer than it was for Biden.
  5. Nah, that would have looked bad on his part. I think he did a great job of brushing off all of her little tactics like that. He just seemed to be amused, which made him look better than if he would have let her get to him.
  6. I found her answer to this question interesting: So if they get elected, and something happens to McCain, I think what she's saying is that she is such a maverick that she'll do whatever she pleases in her own presidency, regardless of what McCain may have thought? I don't know... I thought she sounded just a little too enthusiastic in answering that question, but maybe she was just caught off guard and didn't really know how to answer it.
  7. You know, I somehow got on the Newsmax email list, and I must say that it's at least entertaining (in a National Enquirer sort of way). Now I'm not saying that this story isn't true, but considering the source, I can't give it much credit.
  8. Yes, it is very telling. It tells me that SNL probably thinks (correctly, IMO) that skits about Palin will currently draw more viewers than skits about Biden. And, of course, they've got the Tina Fey thing going for them.
  9. I think she'll probably do OK. (From this article: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080929/ap_on_el_pr/the_veep_debaters_1, which is also about Biden and some of his goofs.)
  10. You don't mean the life of a child in a botched abortion do you? No. I mean through prevention of STD's, cancer screening, etc.
  11. Planned Parenthood is not just a place to get abortions. (I'm assuming that's why you dislike them.) They originated as a birth control clinic, and that is still one of their main functions, along with providing other types of health care and family planning. Even if you don't agree with the abortion services that they provide, it's not fair to say that they don't do anything productive. And I'd be willing to bet that they've even saved a few lives.
  12. Well, you know, there are women who were Clinton supporters who are now going to vote for McCain since he put Palin on the ticket. Talk about no regard for the issues. But I guess people vote based on whatever is important to them, and it's often going to be different from what is important to me. Personally, I would love to see a woman as President or VP, but that's not so important to me that I would vote for someone just because she's a woman.
  13. Saying that their actions are "equally as unacceptable" as "killing doctors" is comparing their actions to killing doctors.
  14. Check out PETA's relationship with ALF (the Animal Liberation Front), ELF (Earth Liberation Front) as well as their relationship with SHAC (Stop Huntington Animal Cruelty) and decide for yourself. Again, I'm not familiar with any of this. Can you also give a brief description? (I'm not trying to argue for PETA, since I don't know much about them. But since their actions were compared to killing doctors, I'm just curious what specifically they have done along those lines. And I don't really have time to research the subject right now.)
  15. I'm not familiar with that. Can you give a brief description of what they did?
  16. What has PETA done that is on the same level as killing doctors?
  17. Sorry, I didn't mean to direct that at you either. I'm being way too serious for a bonfire thread anyway, so I'll just chill out now. And you're right; it was an odd choice of wording. I don't think I could have said that with a straight face.
  18. Which is fine. But then don't act like an ass if she responds with "I'm seeing someone." Not saying that you would, but several of these threads have made it clear that some guys think a woman is a bitch if she responds that way. And I've been in that situation myself before, where the guy asked me out and then started acting like a total asshole after I told him I was married (as if I was lying or something).
  19. I wouldn't call them "stupid" either, but I'm fairly certain that they are a minority of the people who have lost their homes or are facing possible foreclosure.
  20. Why would any of that matter? It still seems like common sense to find out the relationship status before asking someone out for a date.
  21. You know, if I was going to ask someone out, I would find out about the "seeing someone" status first. But that's just me.
  22. Speaking of Prop. 7, I need to look into that more before the election. It sounds like something you would have already looked into, so do you have any thoughts about it?
  23. Now there's an idea. If McCain really thinks it's necessary to postpone his first debate with Obama, then they could simply move the VP debate to the 9/26 slot.
  24. Yes, he is. And I must say that this is the most entertaining election that I can recall in my lifetime, largely thanks to McCain. But I don't necessarily want to be "entertained" by him and Palin for the next four to eight years, so I do hope that they don't win. (Not that I expect Obama and Biden to be perfect either, but I think that they're probably a better choice.)
