How Come "Joe Sixpack" is an American Hero ...
Shotgun replied to Butters's topic in Speakers Corner
I don't know, and what does it mean anyway? It gives me the impression of someone who drinks a six-pack of beer every night. The candidates sort of lose me when they start referring to "Joe Six-pack." I just think, "Well, they're talking to someone out there, but not to me." -
Nice. And yes, they seem to be using his middle name to appeal to the hatred from the lowest common denominator. (from http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081008/ap_on_el_pr/biden)

How Come "Joe Sixpack" is an American Hero ...

Is "Joe Six-pack" a hero? It sounds like a derogatory term to me. -
and you can still skydive even though the rest of the country is having a financial crisis. i guess it's how you look at it. Actually, I can't afford to skydive right now. But I was just making a joke about Sarah's Starbucks anyway. I really don't care what kind of coffee she drinks.

How do you feel about atheists being allowed to marry? And I thought that the Bible pretty much says that homosexuality is wrong whether two people are married or not. So if you will vote against same-sex marriage because of your faith, it seems logical to want homosexuality to be illegal too. (I'm not trying to be confrontational or anything. I appreciate your honest answer. I just don't understand why anyone would want to prevent two loving adults from being able to marry each other and have the same rights that everyone else has.)

Why does Obama continue to hide his past?
Shotgun replied to MikeForsythe's topic in Speakers Corner
Maybe he said something nice about black people in his thesis! -
Well, I think that having Palin in office would be a step backwards for women's rights, so I'll help other women by voting for Obama. Not that I believe in hell anyway. Oh, and it's good to see that, while the rest of the country is having a financial crisis, Sarah can still afford to get her daily Starbucks.

Obama and the home-grown terrorists...not just neighbors.
Shotgun replied to piper17's topic in Speakers Corner
OK, so Obama knows Ayers and Dohrn. Why exactly should I be afraid because of this? Are they all going to get together and bomb the Pentagon or something? And I know about their past, but it seems to me that in the past twenty years or so that they have both worked in a not-so-radical way to help other people. So I really don't see it as a negative association. -
As long as no church is forced to perform a marriage that they don't agree with, I see no reason to not let same-sex couples get married with all the same rights as heterosexual couples. And I hope that Prop 8 (initiative to change CA's Constitution to ban same-sex marriage) is thoroughly shot down here in this next election.

I seriously doubt that a music video from youtube shows proof of any such thing. I also seriously doubt that we can point to any one group of people and say, "They caused the economic mess." It's a pretty complicated situation, and there are lots of different people who have played a part in it (probably from all different parties). But if you'd like to post a link to a credible source that explains exactly who (or who did not) cause the economic mess, then I'd be interested in reading it.

I agree, though I am disappointed in McCain's VP selection, and the fact that he now seems to be running mostly on attacking Obama. But I'm think that whoever wins in this election, we'll probably have a better President than we have right now, so that's a good thing.
-
Holy crap, that's the stupidest thing I've read in a long time. (That, and the other thread where some guy said he wouldn't vote for Obama because of the evil look in his eyes.) But I guess we're all entitled to our opinions.
-
Your guess is as good as mine. I'm usually pretty good about seeing all sides of an issue, but this is an issue I just don't get. I am unable to comprehend why anyone thinks that allowing same-sex couples to marry somehow affects marriage for everyone else.
-
Well, it would ruin their own marriage, of course. Though, oddly, my marriage is still the same now as it was before the CA judges decided to allow same-sex marriages here. Go figure.

I can't be bothered to watch that whole video. Can you sum up what the point of it is? (If it's something important, I'll find something to read about it; that video is just too annoying to watch.)
-
That was pretty funny. But what's even funnier is that skymama got mavericky and posted a link to the Huffington Post in the Bonfire. Now billvon will have to spank you and move this thread to SC.

OK, so we disagree. I think both of them got their facts less than straight on a few things, but so far I haven't noticed anything that I would consider a "blatant lie" from either Biden or Palin at the debate.
-
From the link that Marg posted, this is the quote that Biden was apparently referring to: So, no, the General didn't exactly say that, but I wouldn't say that what Biden said was a blatant lie. And I wouldn't give too many kudos to Palin, since she didn't even get the General's name right.
-
Thanks, but I saw the debate and have since read the transcript.
-
O.K, so you get to save 1 of the 4 candidates
Shotgun replied to shropshire's topic in Speakers Corner
I'll save Biden, for the same reason. -
. . . who smiles and winks while telling us what she'll do if McCain dies. Yes, Biden did make some mistakes, but I'll take my news from a less biased source, thanks.
-
That would be me. As to why, I guess I don't have a great reason, just intuition mostly. With the WMD threat, well it was coming mostly from GWB, who I didn't trust, and the feeling I got at the time made me think that it was BS. With the financial crisis, just from what I can see for myself, things have changed dramatically in the last couple of years (especially home prices and foreclosures), so I don't find it too hard to believe that this extends to a much larger scale that I don't necessarily see.

California, Short of Cash, May Ask U.S. for Loan
Shotgun replied to BIGUN's topic in Speakers Corner
Hey, I thought it said beer and circuses. Can I retract my vote? -
Does that mean that they'll go around together serenading women in bars with "You've Lost that Lovin' Feeling"? If so, I just might vote for them after all.
-
Again, I don't relate to them very much on a personal level. But (without going into too much detail) I sort of relate to some of the problems of Obama's youth. And with Biden, I get the sense that his life has been largely defined by a personal tragedy, and I sort of relate to that as well. But these things have nothing to do with why I am voting for them. I in no way look at them and think, "Hey, they're just like me. They must understand what I'm going through." And even if I did think that, it wouldn't necessarily mean that they'd do a good job of running the country.
