IF this is about Tillerson speaking up against Russia on his own this is very justified. I don't necessarily agree with it but diplomats cannot announce our foreign policy without putting it through the President. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Contrast that with Bill Clinton saying "I did not have sexual relations with that woman" yet there he was in the oval office, no less, getting a blow job from Monica Lewinsky. Sure it's just a blow job but that sounds worse than what that politician did to resign over. Fucking Clintons, you just can't trust those motherfuckers. Hillary has railroaded every woman that filed a complaint against Bill. It's why I refused to vote for her. LMAO, I am sure that's the reason. In the meantime Trump and company have been so kind to all of his accusers. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

So a NATO Ally has been Attacked by Russia with Banned Weapons.

You know what, I think it's well understood that if you're a double agent against Russia you can assume that someday you'll be walking down the street and feel a slight prick somewhere on your body. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher -
Tillerson out. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-43388723 We seriously need to get a Whitehouse Bingo game going. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

My son is a criminal defense attorney. He & I were talking about home protection weapons a year or so ago. He said that every criminal there is, stops dead in their tracks when they hear that noise. And they have no doubt as to what it is. Jerry Baumchen That sound means a gunshot wound that looks something like shredded hamburger. It let's you know that there's a big round in the chamber waiting for you if you go any farther. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Hillary is walking free for much much much much much worse. Why should he be in prison? I don't know if you served in the military, I didn't but trained aboard a Navy Destroyer but the idea of taking pictures inside of a secure area as a memento with a full understanding of what you're doing is a mindbogglingly stupid thing to do if you don't want to spend many years in prison. The only thing that would get you more jail time is ACTUALLY attempting to sell them to a foreign power. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

I'm not going to pick through them but I'm not buying it. Boys feeling marginalized? Haven't seen girls going on mass killings for being marginalized. No Bullies, BS? Plenty of people have never had to deal with a bully. Hardship is one thing, bullies are another. Also if you're gong to categorically refer to a group as being daft then you at least have to deliver the message with correct grammar and spelling. There are cases of people using AR15's for self defense, that doesn't speak to how that's a preferable weapon to a hand gun. My friends who are hard core 2A all say they would never go for the AR over a handgun in a home defense situation. Most handguns shoot a lower velocity bullet than rifles. This is an issue to be addressed both in deterring mass shootings and gun crime. Several of the mass shootings would have been much less severe if a handgun were used instead of a rifle. .223 9mm "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

I'm not assuming that multiple schools are, in fact, equipped with metal detectors but aren't using them. But if that turns out to be the case, then it would strongly suggest that metal detectors in schools just aren't practical. It might be cost. It might be inconvenience. I have to imagine that they there's a point of practicality too. At the beginning and end of school when there's a swarm of kids going through the doors it would be difficult to use them. I can't imagine an entire school full of children passing through detectors within the 1/2 hr span that they arrive before school starts. They may also only use them if they're catching wind that there are some beefs that may spill over into the school. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Maybe so. But in this case he used his lawyers to take advance of her basic human greed, not to bully her. She did not have to take his money. And I'm sure she was handsomely rewarded for her original services as well. There is no reason at all to feel sorry for Stormy. Just as there is no reason to feel sorry for Melania. They both knew what they were getting into. That said, I hope they both find a way to screw him over! 100% "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

No shit, it's not used in gun crime, would you walk down the street with a 3 foot long rifle towards a convenience store at 1AM and think you'll get there before the police do? And in the period in which this weapon has been glorified as the symbol of all that is 2A we've had an explosion of mass shooting with it as the gun of choice. It and similar assault rifles have demonstrated themselves to be capable of inflicting the most damage in the shortest amount of time. What do you say to that? If you (YES YOU) don't figure out how to keep weapons IN the hands on ONLY law abiding owners then a ban is exactly what you're going to get. Fewer gun deaths equals fewer people calling for gun restrictions. It's as simple as that. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Um, no, it isn't, not by a long shot. Um, yes, it is actually. The only thing missing is the assault weapons ban which hasn't worked; which won't work and is just a silly knee-jerk reaction after each act of violence in which it was used. I'll fully admit that my support of the AWB is a knee jerk, but my reaction is also, "Why do we need those weapons available on the public market in the first place?" Seems like an easy item to clean up before addressing the remainder of the issues. My reasoning is that when we get to the end of the debate we're still going to say (at least in my opinion) that assault rifles are in the same category as machine guns in their design and intent. Yes, I know there are those out there who say they hunt deer with them because they're such an awesome shot but if you're such an awesome shot then why do you need 10 more rounds for follow-up? Just out of curiosity, how do you know 'very few people carry concealed'? You say 'weeks without seeing a firearm'. How do you know you are seeing them, or more accurately that you 'aren't not' seeing them. The whole idea of concealed carry is that people don't see it. While some stuff makes fairly obvious bulges (shoulder holsters are the worst), some are quite discreet. Ha, true, the proof is almost unprovable. I should say that I know a quantity of people who have a concealed carry permit and they don't exercise it except on rare occasions and between them AND the open carry crowd I rarely see a weapon. Richmond, Northern VA, and Virginia Beach regions. They have it because they run restaurants and stores and do want it for late night/closing time. I support that right and want to maintain it, just making a point as to the frequency of a firearm being available in the normal day to day. Covering up an illegal campaign contribution could potentially be a big deal. Ah yes, there's that. But again, his last name isn't Clinton so it'll fall on deaf ears. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

In the end will anyone care about this? This is a guy who openly brags about sexually assaulting women and the evangelicals still have his back. Hell, everyone would be surprised if he WASN'T cheating on his wife by banging porn stars. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

We're probably at a moot point with any of this since we all know you can't TELL teachers to start packing heat. It'll be exactly the same percentage of people who carry as do carry in normal society, which isn't many at all. Maybe a few more would want to have a weapon always in a safe in their room should the occasion ever arise and that would mitigate the issue of bringing it to and from their home. Maybe it would be a few less because teachers just aren't the type to want to have a firearm around their students regardless of the safeguards. Anyway, here in Virginia very few people open carry, very few people carry concealed and that number is so low that I go weeks without seeing someone with a firearm. Typically it's just a dude from the DZ who is 2A-All-the-Way. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

My response to most of those goes under the pretense that first, gun crime is one thing and mass shootings are another, next, that there is no reason to have large magazine capacity weapons with the Rem .223 and similar rounds available for civilian use other than that it's fun to blaze away on the range. Therefore they should be categorized and treated the same as machine guns. There are so many damn "Assault Rifles" (semi-auto, etc) out there, especially after the explosion in sales leading up to and following the AWB that any legislation needs to be permanent. No trial period, no 10 year expiration, permanent. I don't expect anyone to feel safer tomorrow, 100 years after the first restrictions placed on machine guns there are still 100's of thousands out there, it takes time. Edit: In order to address GUN CRIME, I'll just point you at what TK is working on. And yes, approaching it from that angle supports both, because yes, I understand that hand guns, shotguns and other less powerful weapons are used. You're being told by directly a teacher, someone with experience in the field, that a certain thing is likely to happen and your reply is 'I don't think it is'? What experience are you basing that on? There is the case that schools aren't homogeneous across the US, there are actually some where a teacher could carry with no issues but there are many many many more where what this teacher is saying is fact. Some classrooms barely have a desk for the teacher to sit at and you can assume that the kids know what's in every drawer and cabinet. They're inquisitive and push the boundaries, it's in their nature. A weapon is an EXTREMELY interesting thing to these minds and you can guarantee that if a loaded gun gets into the hands of a group of high school kids there's a ticking clock to when it gets fired. And those are the good kids. You cannot have a firearm in a school without a teacher being 10 feet away from where it's locked in a safe. Nevermind that teachers are humans and can possibly leave it out. I've seen a high school kid fight off two cops and a coach and there are many times that a random teacher will need to get in the middle of an altercation and take the punches. You don't want a sidearm dangling from that teacher's hip. Children can be like caged animals and they make the wrong move when they feel cornered. When I was coaching high school kids I lost one player because someone had weed in his car and he freaked out and led police on a high speed chase, another was caught breaking into cars to get money for a gambling debt he got himself into with the a local latino gang. These were cracker ass little white boys with rich parents who went on to normal lives, no emotional issues just something that got over their heads. Here's a summary of why it's a difficult issue to research objectively: https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2018/02/gun-violence-public-health/553430/ "The National Rifle Association had pushed for the amendment, after public-health researchers produced a spate of studies suggesting that, for example, having a gun in the house increased risk of homicide and suicide. It deemed the research politically motivated. Gun-rights advocates zeroed in on statements like that of Mark Rosenberg, then the director of the CDC’s National Center for Injury Prevention and Control. In response to the early ’90s crime wave, Rosenberg had said in 1994, “We need to revolutionize the way we look at guns, like what we did with cigarettes ... It used to be that smoking was a glamour symbol—cool, sexy, macho. Now it is dirty, deadly—and banned.” The actual amendment sponsored by Jay Dickey, a congressman from Arkansas, did not explicitly forbid research into gun-related deaths, just advocacy. But the Congress also lowered the CDC’s budget by the exact amount it spent on such research. Message received. It’s had a chilling effect on the entire field for decades." Tactical marksmanship is like driving ability. Nearly everyone views themselves as well above average, Dunning and Kruger being hard at work. It's a pretty shitty criminal that you see coming from a 50m away with a gun in their hand. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

No, I was pointing out the discrepancy in those that want gun restrictions. They do not feel unsafe walking around, but "we have to do something!". Derek V And you missed my point that regardless of how they personally feel day to day that they still don't want guns available and sustaining the current firearms related murder rate. Would it help? Would limiting assault weapons make any real difference? I don't know, but we had the AWB for 10 years and it didn't seem to make any real difference. Many of the mass shootings used other kinds of guns. Even Holmes in CO used a shotgun after the stupid drum mag on his AR jammed up. The flip side of your 'we can't fix' argument is the "Do something, do anything to make me feel safer, even if it has no real effect." Which is what many of the proposed 'solutions' (including arming teachers, FWIW) seem to be. The AWB was enacted over a ridiculously short period and dismissed because it was viewed as having no discernible effect on gun crime. We've already disused the fact that assault weapons are not typically used in gun crimes. But besides the very short period the data DOES show that there was a decrease in mass shootings during the ban. • 1984 to 1994: 19 incidents • 1994 to 2004 (ban is in effect): 12 incidents • 2004 to 2014: 34 incidents There ARE other issues involved and you can purview the source here: http://www.politifact.com/florida/statements/2018/feb/23/ted-deutch/did-mass-shootings-increase-200-percent-assault-we/ As for those "feel safer" fixes, I "feel" safer knowing that there are not automatic weapons on the streets. You know why? Because they're very tightly regulated and the data supports the fact that a well regulated system has resulted in an extremely small quantity of murders using that weapon. I will also "feel" safer for my nieces and nephews when the same restrictions are put on assault rifles. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Kallend December 2007: ***Funny, I drive and walk though Chicago every day (and have done for 30 years) and never needed a gun. Nor do I ever expect to. Yep, as much as people that are anti-gun try and say it is a big problem, it really isn't. It makes for big news, so it alters our perception of the magnitude of the issue. Derek V But now you're agreeing with the argument that people don't need guns for self defense. I know you don't think that, that was kind of a "gotcha". The point being made is that these guys and most people don't live in the realm of being at risk of gun violence but that doesn't mean they don't want others to be at risk. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Not when your focus is on guns and not other issues that cause much more deaths each year. Derek V Do you not think it's important to stop children from being killed in schools or do you feel that way about gun deaths in general? Yes, I'm laying out the "but the children" argument. I forget if you want zero changes or could get on board for limiting assault weapons just as we do machine guns. The "we can't fix these other things so we shouldn't do anything about" is a terrible argument. For real, could you image trying to get absolutely ANYTHING done if that's how you approached problem solving. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
