  1. It's a much better approximation if your "goal" is the actual intimidation and violence. Just to say they were crazy is to say that they spun a dial and that's what he ended up doing. They were angry, they wanted to take it out on people and they chose to terrorize them. Don't get bogged down with the definitions just because they didn't do it because of geopolitics. 2. A big issue I've seen recently is people lumping them together. They're not the same thing and they don't have the same solutions. Mass shootings are domestic terrorism. The weapons used are a combination or semi-automatic rifles and semi-automatic pistols. These phrases aren't exact and I know some people take exception to the phrase semi-automatic but for these purposes it means a weapon that fires as fast as you can pull the trigger. The most typical weapon in the conversation is what's being referred to as an assault rifle meaning a higher caliber semi-automatic weapon designed for military use but adapted for the civilian market, the AR-15 being the most popular. The rails and scopes and flash suppressors are of no consequence. Gun Crimes are typically committed with handguns because you can conceal them. There are many fewer instances of rifles being used in gun crime regardless of what you saw in 1980's gangster rap videos. The Federal Assault Weapons Ban of 1994 was designed to remove the former from sale in the United States because of recent mass https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Assault_Weapons_Banshootings and the ability of these weapons to inflict higher damage because of repeated fire and bullet velocity and power. Ronald Reagan supported banning "semi-automatic assault gun" (his words). The resulting bill was slightly watered down and had a 10 year expiration date. When the expiration date arrived several research groups claimed that the ban did not have an appreciable effect on gun violence and others noted that the weapons within the bill were typically not used in gun crime. The ban was allowed to expire on the basis of crime, not domestic terrorism. Going forward it should be known that the point of an assault rifle ban is not to stop street crime but to keep domestic terrorists from using weapons that can inflict a large amount of damage in a short amount of time and from a longer distance. The wounds from a .223 or 5.56 NATO and similar are much more severe than from a 9mm or 45ACP.https://www.wired.com/2016/06/ar-15-can-human-body/ Debate them separately and understand that there's crossover. For example domestic terrorists also typically carry a 9mm or 45 so you're not going to solve all problems with an assault rifle ban, just the severity of those attacks. You CAN, however, lessen gun crime AND the outcome of domestic terrorism by LONG TERM PERMANENT restrictions on both. There is no debate to the fact that if there are fewer weapons being made and there are tighter safeguards on who can wield them then eventually the number in use illegally will be reduced. 3. That's what I do/teach, around the sides, not pushed up, so that when you fold it the skin is tight all the way around and there's only a single slit on what would be the bottom of it when it's still on the ground. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  4. This quote nicely illustrates the corrosive effect of the NRA on American society. You should be frightened of your neighbor. You should be frightened of your coworkers. You should be frightened of everybody. You're all alone, no one will come to your aid, and the whole world is out to get you. Never sit with your back to the door, and never leave the house unless you can out-gun anyone you may encounter. Buy more guns! Buy them now! And then the gun manufacturers hand them a nice "donation". Don I know people who when they go to restaurants will refuse to sit if their back is to the door. Not Ex LEO, not Ex Soldiers, not Ex Mafia. Just normal ass people who think they're in a movie. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  5. Yup, doing the overhead along with the same for our neighboring DZs in addition to the two where most people go for big boogies (Carolina Fest and Cross Keys). "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  6. Do you mean actually Funks (before he got banned)? Or all the "hot chicks" he pretended to be? His actual presence is before my time, but I've seen a few of his "hot chick" sockpuppets. The way the horndogs fall all over themselves to be 'friendly' was hilarious. Yup, that was hilarious. I had just met him before that because he's friends of a friend so I got tipped off that it was going on. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  7. Counterargument CNN is now as reputable as a drug dealer that deals to 12 year olds. Please, stop making yourself look ridiculous by posting anything from them! So you're saying that isn't an accurate depiction of the election results? I see you are another graduate of Bill's school of twist What I AM saying is anyone who pays any attention to CNN is deep in the eco chamber of lies. What they (CNN) are doing with the FL kids is despicable. Yeah, I'm aware of the echo chamber. I'm just giving you shit because the link was only a list of election result numbers and you referred to it as journalistic BS. I actually try to keep away from CNN and Washington Post because they're so anti-Trump that I get sick of hearing it. I missed the thing on CNN last night but I'm told it was something like a lawyer putting a child with a script on the witness stand. I think it's absolutely great that these kids are exercising their right to assembly, free speech, are active in searching for a solution but soon we'll see the networks drop them literally like yesterday's news. 8. This is similar but not the same, the guy is still folding the ears under. This is the correct name, thanks! A little googlefu which give us this thread turns this up https://web.archive.org/web/20010110231700/http://www.jump.to/wolmari I find packjob easier to control with this method, also the theory behind it is that it puts the fabric to the back of the tail, instead of in front of the nose. He touches on that in his introduction paragraphs. Ha, I didn't know that was a distinct thing but that's what I do and what I teach. Kind of learned a new thing here to look out for when I see someone struggling because I'm probably not emphasizing enough how to roll those ears under. 9. Exactly. Nothing beats actually learning how to pack. With a few tips on how to control the rolls and skin it's not that difficult. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  10. Just my opinion but I've never found that teaching new jumpers a unique way of packing solves the problem if their issue is experience and not technique. Someone with a B-License probably has as many pack jobs under their belt as they do jumps and that's a quantity of packs that I've done in a three day weekend. 11. I'm doing a safety day seminar on the landing pattern (Will cover off field and all related aspects). I'd rather not create it from scratch so I'm looking for material that's already out there that I can edit it for my own program. Does anyone have either a file folder of material or something on powerpoint I could grab? "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

  16. I am literally cutting and pasting your post verbatim into my FB status right now. Here in Virginia we're an open firearms carry state but when you buy alcohol you can't carry out of the store unless it's concealed in a bag. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  17. Ah yes, classic America. To those unwilling to figure out a middle ground it's very likely that the decision will be made for them when these children who actually have to go to class grow up and start making the decisions. If we cannot get to a middle ground then that decision will inevitably be very restrictive. Thanks. I disagree with that on the grounds that as a Tea-Party Shill and blind follower she would have done to the country what Bobby Jindal did to Louisiana. She simply is not capable of understanding the cause and effect of legislation. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  19. You are being reasonable, thoughtful and rational. You are answering his "simple question" with an intelligent, detailed and (IMO) accurate answer. That is more than a "one-liner". You do realize that isn't allowed here, right? Seriously, that is probably the best answer I've seen in a while. Take away the guns (not possible, but hypothetically) and the attitude will remain. The carnage may decrease some, but it will become a 'victory to the strongest' sort of deal. Guns don't create violence, but they allow the weak to have force. Exactly, and that's the common denominator I'm getting to. Yes, there are many traits in our country made of immigrants. We take the best and the worst from all over the world. Still you're mixing around "take away the guns" and "solving the problem" with the "attitude" and "the guns" so it's a bit of a convoluted paste. Sure, you're not going to MAKE people behave differently but we're also not a homogeneous society so you can't say that we ARE something to begin with. We're made up of many different groups with many different problems yet other countries DO have those problems whether it's mental health or machismo. The common denominator is still easy access to firearms, not some cliche of Budweiser, Guns and Jesus (My words for effect). Much of America is absolutely not like that outside of works of fiction and the target audience for gun violence within the age group of 15-25 is the span of a single generation away from living with gun reform. Nobody wants some apocalyptic scenario of taking away guns (even if a few idiots say that on C-SPAN) but a stringent form of gun control that keeps the weapons in the hands of those willing to abide by the law just as has happened in so many of the developed countries in the world. SO, what's so difficult about fitting our American desire for individual liberty, the ability to uphold laws, gun rights machismo, etc, into a vessel that keeps good people protected and begins the long process of burning away the huge stockpile of weapons this country has accumulated? 20. When I have these debates with my politically mixed group of friends I summarize that by saying that in 100-200 years America will be over it's Hollywood action movie approach to life and our raging hard-on for having a gun on your hip will be a thing of the past. I know you cover much more that than but it reminded me of the discussion. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Interesting but not accurate. I started paying attention to Obama in 2003 and had him pegged early on. I voted for McCain/Palin because I wanted to see Sarah Palin as our first female president succeeding John. Out of curiosity, do you still think that Palin would have made a good President? This was actually the election in which the scales tipped and I started voting for mostly Democrats as I had always voted Republican because of nation security and financial issues. I was otherwise gunning for McCain until we found out what she was about. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  24. Being anti-gun is still political suicide. One a countrywide scale, no Democrat is going to beat a Republican by running on a gun restriction platform. It's too easy for a Republican to use that to get voters into the booths and Democrats are too lazy to overcome those odds. Depends on the districts represented. Heavy Democratic leaning districts are still going to vote in Democratic candidates. Definitely, I was trying to quantify that to mean on a Countrywide scale. You'll see Democrats make safe moves and we definitely won't see it in a President. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  25. They are not as far apart as the data you would use might suggest. That said, I don't give a damn about any other country. You press a straw man argument. So again, and regardless of what you give a damn about and I said nothing about the amount being profoundly different and purely an academic question: Why do other developed countries not have as much of a problem (per capita) as the United States?
