  1. http://time.com/5165577/student-anthony-borges-hero-shot-5-times/ Hey Rush, out of curiosity what have you done to deserve voicing your opinion on a school shooter? I know you think they're too young and inexperienced to have a voice but how about the ones who were actually there? How about the ones who actually got shot and lived? I know we won't hear from the ones who actually died but what do you think they'd have to say? "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  2. UPDATE: The problem solved itself. The guy didn't show up to work again. Terminated. We offered to increase his pay and work with him while he figured out the home situation and he didn't hold up his half. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  3. There's much evidence that he was a historical figure, he was at least one of several in that era who claimed himself to be the Messiah, it was a sort of fad. It's likely or possible that several other stories were attributed to him when scholars began putting the books together because much of that time only existed as word of mouth. The story of him being a central figure of the time is very unlikely because there is surviving documentation of the other central figures but not much on Jesus. That's not to say that much of that documentation could have been destroyed because of religious politics, the Romans were very quick to subdue religion because their emperor ruled by divine authority and therefore any other religion posed a defacto challenge to that authority. His trial Some of the first writings to show up regarding Christians were from Pliny the Younger asking Rome what to do about Christians because of this paradox. 4. Not going to happen. You don't want to make mandatory action part of any evaluation. They made the wrong decision and people lost their lives. It's terrible and they'll have to live with that. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  5. We obviously didn't arm the teachers and students quickly enough, however in the meantime there was a record setting speed at which legislation was put forth banning animals from being put in overhead luggage areas. Maryland high school on lockdown after shooting Reuters Staff (Reuters) - A Maryland high school was on lockdown following a shooting on Tuesday morning, the local school district said in a statement, but the incident has since been “contained.” https://www.reuters.com/article/us-maryland-shooting/maryland-high-school-on-lockdown-after-shooting-idUSKBN1GW1LA "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  6. It's not primarily about fear. It's about hope. Without God, you have no hope and you're going to die. Actually I do have hope but I also understand how to interpret things written on paper and I've read the Bible several times and studied it thoroughly. It doesn't hold up and by all historical records Christ was not the Messiah. That doesn't mean his teachings and moral lessons are wrong just that he was not God's son. It doesn't even mean that if you die and see the Hebrew god sitting in the chair that he's going to send you to Hell, it means that none of you have any idea what you're talking about. The morality part is good but the rest of it is superstition. That feeling you have in your gut that you call faith is the same thing someone feels when they're told good news, like when a kid is told they're going to Disneyland. You think you're going because you've been told you're going so you feel good about going but it doesn't change the fact that you have no idea whether you're going. It's also OK that you don't know and don't want to know otherwise, enjoy your time on Earth and Be Excellent to Each Other. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  7. Does it blow anyone's mind that we're sitting here debating superstitions? In 10k years I wonder if they'll look at archaeological internet records and discuss how quaint it was we still believed this stuff and chemically castrated homosexuals. 8. Wait just one cotton picking moment there. Now I'm confused. First I hear that if I don't conform I will suffer in Hell for eternity. Now you are telling me that death is the penalty. What is it really? Execution or hard time forever? You religious people just can't seem to get your story straight. It's as if they're trying to get people to adhere to laws by invoking religious fears in a era when centralized government was incapable of such things. Hmmmmm......... 9. Looks like they're blaming the braking mechanism. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  10. You are saying exactly what I was taught as a kid, and firmly believed up through college. But once you set it aside for awhile and take another look, it does not make enough sense. I suspect many more leave the church as adults as come to it, simply because the hurdle to believing the story requires well, a big leap of faith. And the bible has some cover for these impossible conundrums, like I Corinthians 13:12 "For now we see in a mirror, darkly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known." Basically this is often taken to mean, "we know it does not make sense, but just go with it, we (the bible writers) know what we are talking about." Hard to give Jesus credit for saying what the rules are for getting into heaven when the Christian Bible rewrote the Hebrew text for the Messianic Prophesies: http://www.aish.com/jw/s/48892792.html "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  11. Yeah, I figured it would be three phase just because of the size of the motor but they would physically have to move two of the phases. Who knows what kind of crazy shit they have going on in that region. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  12. It almost certainly wouldn't during a gear check before emplaning because the lines are all stowed. You wouldn't be able to see a flip through, would you? It SHOULD have been caught by a continuity check during packing. He must be talking about the three rings being flipped as he says it's the cause of not being able to cut away. In that case it should have been caught during one of several instances between packer and TI but the TI is ultimately responsible. Thinking through my own checks, besides the initial gear inspection prior to getting suited up I would be checking for this two more times before exit. 13. Yes, we're too small to pick up someone's healthcare, our margins are much smaller than that cost. Plenty of other people spend their lives going to work and handling business, this person is not able to do that. I have plenty of empathy for that person and am curious what others do. 14. I seriously doubt "God" is going to judge me and is not so vain that I fail a test for entry for not taking a literal translation of very vaguely written 2-3000 year old texts that have been corrupted and rewritten multiple times to achieve the ends of power hungry religious leaders. 15. That's why I said "properly cutting away from a bag lock." He was not cut away from a bag lock. You can manually pull the risers off your shoulders and it's part of a correct cutaway procedure to visually check the risers. But yes, an inflated drogue will break a rubber band without hesitation. As the previous poster noted the drogue was likely collapsed. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  16. My guess is a electrical issue and the motors reversed. Sound likes they're still running inside of the enclosure. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  17. I wonder, under Romanian law, do you actually have to drive the stake in before declaring him dead? "Wait one minute! This is my home. My people cleared the land. We tortured innocent peasants for it. We even murdered for it. By Romanian law, that makes it ours." I didn't recognize the quote, had to look it up but I've seen that movie a hundred times at least because it was one of the 5 vhs tapes we had when we lived in Italy. I've been meaning to find it and rewatch it. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  18. OK, that seems reasonable. How long do you think that would take? A couple of days at least, or more like a week if you are going to interview the kid, family, friends, teachers, get a warrant to access medical records, get a warrant to search their home. So, how many agents would it take to deal with the volume of tips? You'd have to have some in every big city and more to cover rural areas. So what would that be, another 1,000 FBI agents? 10,000? Who's going to pay for them? Shall we cut the budget for the military to pay for it? Medical research? Don And of course in the meantime we're paying teachers so little that they're walking out in protest. Amazing how quickly Americans get behind a program if it means we don't have to address gun violence. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  19. She'll definitely stick it out with him, again, she has class and money and her priority is her son. I'll say that within a maximum of two years she'l drop his ass. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  20. He signed a pre-nup with that in it??? Man, he is even dumber than I thought, (if that is even possible). You have to remember that this is a guy who has no regard for any promise he's ever made, much less to a woman. It's not surprising that any woman getting involved with him would put some very serious work into a prenuptial agreement. I think we've all seen that she has much more class than he does. 21. Yes, they can. That is to qualify that there's nothing in any given religious text or history that proves they are the religion by which our universe is governed. They all stand on equal footing and if anything prove that they are all wrong. If there is an afterlife there is no incantation or pledge of fealty that elevates one person above another. For all anyone knows we pass into a fourth dimension where we know all and see all in all time and space. Or we might just be reincarnated as cats. 22. From what I gather many daycares are franchised and pay their employees crap, an average of $11.50 an hour meaning you probably can't afford to send your own child to daycare. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  23. I hear what you're saying but that's such a exception to the rule that it's an easy answer only in hindsight. I've heard people say some crazy shit, kids say crazy shit, angry crazy kids say crazier shit. This is the one time where we've been able to say that someone should have looked at this harder and having all the information on the table it's obvious to us and I know even the FBI is saying that they should have acted. What blows my mind is that we have a couple of instances where someone with mental health issues shot people up and everyone wants to create some kind of mental health evaluation group that has the potential to be more intrusive and restrictive than any gun safety law we could imagine. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  24. So you agree with me that there are already laws restricting gun ownership and penalties for misuse which need enforcement and that simply creating more restriction on the rest of us will not prevent another mass shooting tragedy? There are currently no laws differentiating between ownership of assault rifles and other weapons. They need to be in the same category as machine guns because of their ability to inflict a large quantity of damage in a short period both at short and long range. The current laws for other firearms are pathetically weak. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  25. That's amazing. I hope someone buys that place and fills it with white cats because that's the only thing missing. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
