Well, she just quit so that's not gonna happen. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

The difference between us and Isreal (just speaking to the room) is that as a nation they are small in numbers and defacto at war with nearly all of their neighbors. We are large in numbers and our enemies are on the opposite side of very large oceans. I don't agree with Compulsory Service in any form. This country is about the government managing free will and a free market and service to your country should be a matter of your choice of a career path. Benghazi! Benghazi! Somebody should investigate Benghazi! You laugh - but here's the latest deflection straight from NRA TV: ========================================= GRANT STINCHFIELD (HOST): You know, I can’t help but draw comparisons to Benghazi. Now that was a terrorist attack, you could make the argument that this guy was a terrorist in what he rained down on that school. You had so many warnings, Kris, you and the men that you fought with over there warned about Benghazi over and over again that there were threats and there were security flaws and issues there. Now we see that there were warnings over and over again. We as Americans, I’m sad to say, we’re not learning lessons from other events and we could have learned – whether it was Benghazi or any other school shooting, this school wasn’t ready and they should have been. KRIS PARONTO: That’s because we let politicians and political correctness, and that was in Benghazi and that was also in Florida, take charge. We’re not looking at common sense anymore, we’re letting agendas drive this. And when we let agendas drive this, we let left-wing agendas drive this, and I'm going to say this specifically when we let left-wing agendas drive this, this is what we see. We see loss of life. We see people die. If that isn't just a common denominator on this whole thing then people need to, again, wake up. I’m telling you to wake up. You gotta stop listening to the left-wing politicians. If you do we’re going to keep seeing this catastrophic events. We’re going to see the decline of morality in society which is partly responsible for this as well. (plays clip of sheriff) STINCHFIELD: It sounds like Hillary Clinton “What difference does it make?” This is what liberal leadership gets you. No responsibility, no accountability, we’ve got people dead from Benghazi, we’ve got people dead at Parkland and liberal leadership is at the height of all of it. ============================================= So it's all Hillary Clinton's fault. Guns have NOTHING to do with the Florida shooting or Benghazi. Benghazi! Benghazi! (Now I know what you are thinking - the NRA has a TV channel? Why yes they do.) Ah yes, bullets don't kill people, a Leftist Agenda kills people. I fully support adding more security to schools and I have yet to see any action in that regard from "the right". I also fully support keeping weapons from people who cannot pass an evaluation (whatever that may be) for a firearms license and have yet to see any action in that regard "the right". It's also being phrased as leftist to ban bump stocks even though it's Trump who pushed that issue. Dear Republicans, DO SOMETHING. YOU'RE RUNNING THE FUCKING COUNTRY RIGHT NOW. I think I remember seeing Blind Fury as a kid and thinking it was absolutely awesome. This of course was the era of American Ninja, Delta Force and Beastmaster. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

That was a decision made by the Iowa courts! Blind Liberty. Sounds like a good action movie. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Looks to me like you are behind the times: https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/trump-says-he-would-have-run-florida-school-n851266 Yes, I do know that this belongs in the JOKE OF THE DAY thread. Jerry Baumchen Cadet Walter "Bonespurs" Mitty to the rescue! Don I know I sound like a typical basher here but I think we all know that Trump would never run towards the sound of gunshots. Benghazi! Benghazi! Somebody should investigate Benghazi! Ah yes, back in the days when investigating things for years and spending loads of money was all the rage. What changed? "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

I wasn't trying to trash the deputies, I was only rebutting Noailhart's post Yup. You were just the click above me while I was thinking about the issue. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

That's essentially what I was wondering about. It's not like this is the first time this has happened and it's not like there isn't training for this situation. I know my impulse would be to rush in but that's also a good way to catch a bullet having done nothing. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

I'm stepping back from blaming the Deputy. We have a history of lynching people when we don't have all of the information and this was potentially a very confusing situation. That said, when you take a job like this your job is to run to the sound of gunshots as fast as possible. I would like to know why he didn't do this. Wow. Just. FUCKING. Wow. Yeah, that's Team American World Police cartoon level understanding. And a great example of how some people adamantly claim to be Christians while remaining completely oblivious to the teaching of Christ. It's the same mentality that resulted in situations of people killing Sihk Indians because they thought a turban meant they were Muslims. I also think that any gun sale should go back through a FFL (Not an LEO) to verify that the sale is coming from the person on record, going to the person on record, that the weapon is how it reads on the paperwork and both parties are licensed. A $15 processing fee would make gun shops more than happy to process a 15 minute transaction and besides now they're getting people who actually buy and sell into their stores. You may try talking to a wall instead. These hardliners are not thoughtful people in general. Oh, I know that. These are the ones who feel that these shooting are an acceptable part of upholding the 2nd Amendment. The only change they seek is to allow teachers to carry since they blame "gun free zones" and slow police responses. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

This is what I try to point out to my friends who are hardliners, that if they don't help to figure it out now then the decision will be made for them. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

There is a difference between Mass Shootings and Gun Crime
DJL replied to DJL's topic in Speakers Corner
Most people have no clue of the difference between a semi auto AR-15 and a select fire M-16. A couple years ago, during the "open carry of rifles" idiocy, there were a couple guys who walked towards the farmer's market with AR-15s over their shoulders. Numerous calls to the cops were made, most claimed 'two guys with machine guns' were walking down the street. Yes. An AR-15 is a very threatening looking weapon. You can make fun of people for not knowing all about the differences between models of rifles. But remember, the tough and threatening look is a large factor in why they are so popular. It certainly isn't because they are so useful. Why should you be surprised people are intimidated by them? Tactical style weapons have one design in mind and that is for the ease and effectiveness in shooting other people. Same would happen if they had AK-47's. I assume the guys were attention seeking and that just means they're assholes. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher -
That "high power" phrase is what I got from reading the reports from the medical staff that worked on the victims, they noted the distinction between these victims and the typical gunshot victims they see which are from handguns. I'll see if I can dig up the article, the other one I found was more general about the differences. I've shot my entire life but no, I'm not into guns. I have a blackpowder rifle, 12 gauge, 16 gauge, and Remington .22 LR. In college we were issues M14's but I never shot it or the M16's that were also available to us. I was able to shoot a 50 Cal machine gun off the stern of a ship and that was fucking sweet. I have only an academic knowledge of the differences between the two that the M14 fired the .308 with was a slower but powerful round and the M16 fired the 5.56 which is a higher speed round that would bounce off branches and also bounce around inside the target (similar to Winchester .223). From what you saying there's no point in saying "high power" because unless you're talking about my 22 then just about every rifle is high power. Amen, brother. Kids do dumb shit and with this Florida shooter he STILL had not previously done anything that was criminal or crazy enough to get him carted off. The accumulation of all the warning signs was still only lead the police and profession psychiatrists who interviewed him that he had anger issues but I don't know the whole story. There is a difference between Mass Shootings and Gun Crime
DJL replied to DJL's topic in Speakers Corner
I'm sure it's slightly in depth, no need to list it any more than you did. I'd never go through the process to own one but I'd drop a chunk of change to fire a Tommy Gun and a few select others on a range. The "assault rifle" label needs a better definition so we all agree to what we're going after which is a combination of items whose only purpose is to unload a lot of damage in a short period. High rate of fire (semi-auto), chambers a high velocity round, receives a high volume mag. Aside from a few people that specific combination is not needed for hunting and people typically want something else for home defense. Typically and with a few exceptions if you remove just one of those three you have a hunting rifle. For example I have a 22LR which hold 15 rounds in the stock. Sure I can unload the whole thing very fast but I'm not putting holes in people that will take 5 surgeries to fix if they live through it. Also, since you have to load it through the stock which takes a while. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher -

I didn't say outlaw. As you said, "federally registered". Tell us more about the process required to register and own a machine gun. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher -
Semi-auto high power rounds with large magazine capabilities. The point of the gun free zone was to give schools teeth against gun related crime. There's nothing that says it can't be amended to permit trained security personel (To include teachers, which most teachers think is idiotic). Our own laws also restrict types of weapons such as machine guns. As I said in the other thread we have to come to grips with the fact that there's also an admission that some weapons can inflict too much damage and should not be available for civilian use, namely high rate of fire weapons which chamber high velocity rounds and allow high volume magazines. I have a friend who when we talk about gun control he's like talking to a brick wall. I took this same guy paint balling and he was shaking so badly that he could barely point the gun in the right direction. I would not want to be anywhere without a steel wall between us if he had an actual gun in his hand in a high stress situation. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

The admission by everyone needs to be that while the 2nd amendment was designed to provide the citizenry with weapons capable of waging war that some of those weapons are actually WAY too capable of waging war. We don't allow machine guns for obvious reasons, do we want to make the same admission about weapons with high rate of fire, high velocity rounds, with high volume magazines? Most people I know would much rather have a handgun for self defense than a 3 foot long chunk of metal anyway. Hunters don't need a 30-round magazine and many are even split over the need for semi-auto even though it provides a quicker follow-up shot. So, where does that put us?
