Oh man, I have no illusion of that. She lost to a damn cartoon character, how shitty of a candidate do you have to be to lose to Yosemite Sam. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

I've just noticed that there's no Liberal outrage on gun control after this incident. Of course not. It doesn't fit their agenda. Bill's reply to you is a great example of the left losing the argument. You come across with a great point which is absolutely correct and he has to move towards shaming you into silence. Don't let him do that! I think you're missing the joke we're all sharing here. We're very much aware that people like you see this woman as some kind of Lefty Extremist and it's your big chance to throw mud. Yet, it's another case of someone's unrestricted access to a firearm that enabled them to go from assault to murder. There's no "losing the argument" because she's a vegan or a she. She killed people and she killed people with a gun, another statistic in American gun violence that doesn't happen as frequently in countries with tighter gun control laws. The only time I've heard them refer to themselves as Persian is when they're differentiating themselves from Arabs. The context was an Iranian coworker describing differences in food and how they eat. It's otherwise a dated word that nobody seems to use, like referring to Asian countries as the Orient. We now refer to Asia as a much more expansive continental reference but we don't refer to anything as the Orient because the differences between China, Vietnam, Malaysia, etc who make up that region are vast and there's no conceptual body that they form. Nobody knew a trade war would have further ramifications: CHINA MILITARY TELLS RUSSIA 'WE'VE COME TO SUPPORT YOU' AGAINST U.S. China's military leadership has pledged its support to Russia as tensions between Moscow and the West further deteriorate into diplomatic isolation, economic sanctions and dueling defense drills. http://www.newsweek.com/china-military-tells-russia-weve-come-support-you-against-us-870070 "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

If someone claimed they found Ghengis Khan's grave, and as a consequence you now needed to organize your life around it, you'd ask them to prove it, yes? Don't make your self a martyr or a victim here, Jay. Either prove that you can factually assert the existence of God and that this God is omniscient or retract the statement. Or what if the grave was empty and several people told you that he hadn't died, they'd seen him at a party? "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Nah, not really... Turned out to be a Turkish or Iranian woman angry at YouTube for filtering her videos so she didn't get as many views, plus she was an extreme leftist vegan PETA supporter. I've seen some of her videos. She's way the fuck out there. In other words, just another loser. All she had to do was yell "Allah Akbar" and she'd be the darling of far right propaganda. Dammit, almost had ourselves a unicorn. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Is your faith strong enough to allow you to accept that Genesis is not literal truth? Many people can keep their Christian faith without holding on to this like a rock in the sea of disorder. Those are the people I see as having strong faith. After listening to Dr Kent Hovind's lectures I see no reason to consider that possibility. I simple "No" would suffice. I'm contradicting myself a bit but I don't think a literal translation of the Bible is necessary to hold faith or be a Christian. However, it's that Christian's responsibility to apply that logic to the entire book and understand why various laws or edicts were written. The book is fallible, the writers were fallible and in many instances what they wrote is flat out wrong or has no bearing on our culture. In a period in which people were getting sick from eating some types of crustaceans it could be thought that God was the one making them sick and didn't want that. Now we understand that under cooked or improperly stored food can give people parasites or diseases and has zero to do with what God wants. Maybe apply that logic to what Leviticus says about homosexuals just as we've applied it to what a neighbor owes their neighbor if he injures their Oxen or if a woman punches a man in the genitals? I like that "polite society card" way of putting it. I see it kind of like telling a kid that Santa doesn't exist and usually just let them go on in their happy life. For many people religion is a good crutch and I'd rather that they believe in something that keeps them in line morally, it's better than them being alcoholics or assholes. It was a good thing for me when I was younger, I got into a lot of trouble as a kid. When they turn the corner and use religion as a reason to impede other people's lives then the kid gloves are off. Yes, I do. However, if you lay down with dogs you will get fleas. They made their choice, Jerry Baumchen They've been politically manipulated for many many years to vote for their own misfortune. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

The intelligent design crowd likes to use the explainable complexity of things like our DNA or the color spectrum to prove that things don't randomly fall into place. I like to use this argument to validate that Zeus is actually who we should pray to as the God of Gods because the logic holds that if we're created then therefore everything unexplainable, including God himself, can only be explained through divine creation. So, see, there much be a God overseeing God, Zeus. Of course under Zeus is a giant turtle and underneath that turtle another turtle, and of course turtles all the way down. "See the TURTLE of Enormous Girth" "On his shell he holds the Earth." "His thought is slow, but always kind." "He holds us all within his mind." "On his back all vows are made;" "He sees the truth but mayn't aid." "He loves the land and loves the sea," "And even loves a child like me." Not at all. He predestined to save some. It doesn't apply to all. The cool thing is, even you have the opportunity to repent and believe. But the point is, with regard to predestination, that no one would have unless God acted on our behalf. Does God also need to repent to his God about all the atrocities he's inflicted on humans? Edit: You don't need to answer that question. Really, if you're happy with your beliefs then go ahead believing. It's nothing off my shoulder until you attempt to impose or act against others negatively. This is the primary reason people are vocal against religion, that there's a voting block who wish to influence their country's laws by imposing religious law whether it's the Torah, Koran or the Bible, we don't want that bull. Does he have a conscience? Or has he just been attacked over his comments and wants to walk them back? Isabelle Graham apologized to Hogg. But only after his successful attack on her, through her advertisers. I tend to question the sincerity of apologies under these sorts of circumstances. I think with Stallone he just liked how he sounded within his circle and overstepped himself but wouldn't be surprised if his brother gave him a call to tell him to reel it in or he's off the gravy train. I've voiced support for the AWB from 1994 but think it was short sighted, it was mostly a ban of the scary things on gun which was amateurish. But yes, I think there should be types of weapons not available to the public without serious paperwork and those restrictions should mimic how machine guns are treated. I do support further restrictions on general firearms similar to what other developed countries have done and have no expectation that it'll have a discernible effect within my lifetime because of the sheer quantity of weapons in this country. I think the youtube thing was stupid because there is way worse content on youtube than people doing things with guns. I'm not sure what they're restricting, the article didn't get into it. Maybe they're trying to protect their asses if some kid learns how to convert a weapon to fully auto, beats me. Edit: Found it: "YouTube will ban videos that promote or link to websites selling firearms and accessories, including bump stocks, which allow a semi-automatic rifle to fire faster." That's just stupid. They're a company and can do what they want but that's stupid. So, let me see if I got this right... Bans are good. Self-imposed corporate bans are stupid. Sorry, what? I'm not sure what statements of mine you're linking together or what youtube has to do with gun bans which is what I assume you're getting at. It doesn't get an more circular than saying that the proof of the bible's accuracy is based upon God ensuring that at least the original writings are accurate. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

I wasn't raised in a religious environment and was an atheist up until 1998. And neither was I, however, I became a Christian and studied it as literally the most important thing in the world until coming to the understanding that it's at best as verifiable as any other religion on the planet and also knowing that Christ did not fulfill the Messianic Prophesies. I left it behind and no it was not a decision made lightly, because as a I said, what happens to you when you die and the ramifications your life has on the afterlife is literally the most important thing in your life. Faith becomes it's own proof to religious people but they ignore the fact of what faith is, the belief that an outcome will become a reality. Religious faith is very powerful because it's based on years of tradition, repetition, societal norms, laws, and social acceptance. Children are told by adults that these things are truths and then the adults start telling it to themselves. The mental lapses and bridging that occurs to support this illusion can be astounding. Draw crowds with entertainment, coffee shops, McDonald's style "play places" for the kids, and messages with weak theology lacking much biblical teaching...but...appeals to the masses because it's what makes them "feel" comfortable and gives them lots of the self-help, self-centered advice most people are looking for with just enough Christianity sprinkled here and there for them to call it a church. But...they do have good coffee! Not interested in a Christian church with its zealotry, bigotry and brainwashing. There are some good parts too, I'll give it that but there are also texts and messages from every other point of the compass that do a better job at expressing moral values. You certainly don't need Christianity sprinkled in to call it a church. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Only if you define righteousness as 'what god does'. If you define it according to any remotely acceptable moral code, then no. And none of this is relevant to what happens to me when I die. Religion is a smile on a dog. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

I've been thinking about this a lot recently having gone to a Unitarian church growing up and then to a non-denominational church. They're great communities with good people and if they served mimosas on a Sunday morning I'd be game. I'm not interested in hearing about religion or activism but there are plenty of other things that bring a community together and create activities for people of all ages.
