Oh, that superstitions! Oh that myths!

If you chop then don't make any comment about the need for others to chop. Here's the situation, I chopped on the first load, then while we were watching the last come in I said, "Hmm, I think someone else needs to have a cutaway." The result was one cutaway and two jumpers in the trees. Also, don't comment on how nice the weather for the weekend is looking. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher -
He’s not saying that a wrap could result in a bi-plane. He’s saying that if you’re in a bi-plane and you pc gets wrapped in the other jumper’s lines then plan on landing it. If you break then you’ll likely wrap or entangle and won’t have enough time to figure out what’s wrong. http://www.dqnt.com/acc.htm Jon, gets on these forums so I'm sure he could he could give a more complete explaination. Listen Jackass, why don't you list your canopy size and wingloading instead of trying to hide what you're jumping. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Here's a good example. When I got off of AFF but didn't have my A license, I thought belly flying solo was pretty boring so I tried to sit fly. I saw or heard somewhere that you should stay perpedicular to the jump line so I did just that. This was about jump #12, and I didn't know a thing about sit flying, was using the DZ student gear. Thinking back, it wasn't a sit that I was in so much as lying on my back and trying to sit up enough to look down between my feet. I was probably all over the place but was very cautious to stay perpendicular to the jump line. So, there will be people like me who just do it because that's what they see on the good after-hours video, so I think it should be part of the DZ's training (Not USPA) that new jumpers get told about jump separation and who should go where and why. I was, and so were the surrounding groups, lucky that I just happened to run into it. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

I thought the same thing with the original post: "Chalk one up for the good guys. Good riddance." and AggieDave's "Kick ass! I like to here stories where law abiding citizens come out on top when faced with extra-ordinary situations. Especially when dealing with people trying to rob them, etc." It's kind of like a bouncer who will use any excuse to beat someone's ass or a cop who shoots too quickly. It's not a matter of upholding justice, it's the delight in having the excuse to kill someone. We could go through hypotheticals all day but what if the chick had the common sense to not get in an arguement with a homeless dude and had instead shut the door and called the cops. Then they could have come, searched him, found the knives and had a case. Instead we have a dead guy. When someone dies, it's never a good thing. Something can always be done to prevent it. The least people could do is to refrain from celebrating it. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Ya know, I always thought it wouldn't be a big deal keeping ahead of these things, but one of them was a marathon runner. Hmm... I'm pretty sure they don't run the bulls that will be fought. I saw something on it and they said they quit doing that and now they run the sub par bulls, still the same fate. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

My rigger took care of one of those for $5. Just wait until I post the torn out rib I got a while back. I have to send THAT to Aerodyne. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Sounds like everyone involved fucked up. The Honda should have seen/heard the ambulance, the ambulance should have slowed (if the light was red) to check for idiots, the Chevy should have been going slower or should have stopped in case the Ambulance was to turn left. I'm interested in hearing what the people around here in the emergency field have to say about this. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

That happened on a canopy of mine. The several riggers who looked at it said it was no big deal and that it probably snagged on something and could go back to normal after a few openings but if none of the stitches are broken then it won't get worst. The best swordfish I had was cooked with a pesto sauce. Damn, that was good. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

I'd guess that it happened while under canopy, or landing, especially, since you said the PC was collapsed. I've done a bit of CRW on canopies with collapsable PC's and they really do dance around just because there's someone sitting in front of it making a burble. So, your bigway just turned into a ball of shit with 8 canopies tied together. Everyone communicates and begins to exit in an orderly fashion. You're in freefall now with the canopy ball above you and people still breaking free. My thought is tht I would track the same as I would when breaking from a regular jump but would go to the reserve as soon as a I could. I haven't seen any discussion on this so I thought I'd bring it up. What do you do after breaking from a big entanglement? "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

"Do you have a idea to help with the problem of a mass of less-educated people (who therefore require more resources) besides "screw them?" or "they should have been born rich?" or "not my problem?" Hey, this may be my uneducated view but it seems to me that low altitude high performance entanglements are different than large square canopy entanglements. A Lightning will still fly with another canopy and pilot strung through the lines but hp entanglements will turn into orbiters and spinning/diving canopies in a blink. Any thoughts from anyone about whether these should be dealt with by different methods? "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

When you pull it out, put it in a large cooler that you've filled with as many beetles and ants as you can find. That should glean it. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Is it OK/allowed to do an aff level at a different dropzone?
DJL replied to Muenkel's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Actually, I think following up your wind tunnel time with an AFF jump would be a pretty good idea. That way you can apply what you've learned immediately. It shouldn't be any big deal to get in an AFF jump down there. The instructors will probably just be a little more careful since they don't know how much you've absorbed so far. You can't go into this with the same attitude you have going into Billy Madison or some kind of slapstick like that. It's dry and deliberate humor. It's the kind of movie that you see and then two days later you think to yourself, "I would go nuts if I had to grow up with 10 sisters like that." Yeah, I tried this too. The difference is that the CEO's father's secretary died in a skydiving accident. His response was a resounding, "Hell, no." "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
