  1. It's a W 8-1. I have a tempo 150 and a viper 105 in it. packing the tempo at first was a bitch. Now the container is a bit softer and the next reserve pack we might even have to shortnen the closing loop. Same for the main. Now it closes without much strength. Memento Audere Semper 903
  2. You got the old one. The new style as you can see it does not have any overlapping fabric. Memento Audere Semper 903
  3. Ok boys. Here are some pics. Memento Audere Semper 903
  4. The part of the handle that tucks in is much thinner about 1/2 and it has a hard plastic reinforcement on the inside that gives it a more solid feel and structure as well. Let me take a pic and I'll post it. Nick Memento Audere Semper 903
  5. I want to let you know how fantastic Ankie and Sunrise Rigging customer service are. I sent them an e-mail because I had trouble tucking my freefly handle under the flap so I wanted a regular hackey instead. I was told that they now have a new handle and they were going to put it on for free. So I sent my PC got it back in less than a week (I don't know how they do it). It now tucks in right away. I got to jump it yesterday in 5 degree weather and it works perfectly. I also like the new feel better, despite the thick gloves. I now highly recommend the FF handle to anyone Memento Audere Semper 903
  6. The Wings will do it. Memento Audere Semper 903
  7. Then take your business somewhere else. I jump a 150 reserve and a 105 main. There are manufactures out there that can and will accomodate such needs and others that don't... Memento Audere Semper 903
  8. To clarify, Is Stane (Atair) actually builing the Demons? Thanks Memento Audere Semper 903
  9. Story of my life. I do research in Neuroscience. We go through rats like candies. Few years back some of those guys from PETA managed to brake in some of the labs and vandalized them for several millions of dollars and slowed down thier progress by several months They used to do research with primates. Nowadays things are better because everybody in our department uses rats. Those labs that use primates have now security levels like Area 51 just to shield them against animalists Memento Audere Semper 903

  13. I always thought the Spectre had the softest openings until I started to jump my H-mod Viper 105... Memento Audere Semper 903
  14. Depeding on the case you can do both safely. Memento Audere Semper 903
  15. Jason, I do see your point and I would not have done myself it but let's face it, it's just a lock. It crossed my mind several times to trespass on top of a building and jump from it and I cannot say I will never do it. Again the way I see it, is where you draw the line. If no life other than yours is in jeopardy then we are all on the same level just a different perception... Nick Memento Audere Semper 903
  16. Second to that. By the way, let's stop being a bunch of hypocrites here. If you live and jump in the States you have at some point broken the law. Where you draw the line it is entirely up to you but don't go and judge other jumpers because they took it a step further than you are willing to do. Yes they jammed a door, big deal! My very first BASE jump was out a very illegal, very high profile cliff. Am I any better than those two? Hell no. So please start being real here. We are all willing to take chances, just with different degree. Memento Audere Semper 903
  17. I'm all for safety although for the Bridge Day I decided not to go with the helmet for the following reasons: nothing to strike with an off-heading opening with a delay more than 3 sec. If I was not confident with my approach I would have gone for the water on landing. You guys though made the mandatory 42" and that IMHO solved tons of problems. Mandatory helmet? I don't see the need for the way I jump off the bridge but I have nothing against it. Memento Audere Semper 903
  18. I'm with Derek on this 100%. Unless somebody shows me real data proving a bigger pilot chute gives harder openings I just dont buy it. At my DZ we all jump at least 28" regardless the size of the chute. A 28" solved several chronic line twists on few Velos, and we do a lot of sub H&Ps too. When I ordered my Wings I requested a 28 for my Viper 105. The DZO jumps a Xaos 78 guess with what PC, yes a 28. IMO smaller than 28 does not make any sense at all. At some point I was jumping a Hornet 150 with a 24. It opened OK at terminal but few times I got line twists at sub and PC hesitation. Here is my break down: 150 or smaller 28. 170 or bigger 32. 19. As twnsnd simply put: more wing = more lift = more parasite drag = less performance. In most ariplane you have flaps that generate more parasite drag, more lift, and reduce the stall speed. We quite don't have that luxury in our modern canopies although some could argue that flaring itself act as some sort of flaps but not quite true. There are now some flex hang glider with flaps and most rigid hang gliders have flaps making landings much safer and easier do to the lower stall speed and slower approach speed. Ground effect on an airplane can only be appreciated significantly on low wing birds although it does not substitute for proper use of flaps, good approach speed, and descent rate. 20. 1776 (after independence year) feet: an over 10 second freefall. Let's put our asses to work and see if we can talk the bureaucracy to get to jump it on its inauguration day. Memento Audere Semper 903
  21. You ask very good questions. I think the parasite drag for an elliptical the same size would be a bit less but probably not significantly less. I would like to know the stats myself. A cross-braced canopy must have the less parasite drag mainly due to their very low hight cord and partially enclosed nose. Remeber that parasite drag goes higher with higher speeds, the opposite is true for induced drag so a X-braced will have the lowest total drag at virtually any speeds. As for wingloading, well you reach a point where you have good lift only at very high speeds but very low lift at low speeds or alternatevly during the last part of the flare especially in down-wind/no-wind landings. So it comes down to what speed you feel comfortable to start running! Think about a glider and a a fast aerobatic monowing plane. One needs to produce lift at very low speeds hence the huge wing span; the other needs to manuver quickly without puting too much stress on the frame hence the short wing span for low parasite drag, powerful engine, and crappy landings for the most part! But usually those guys who fly planes like the Extra 300 will land them just fine! In Aviation the concept is quite the same. Small wings, higher speeds, less parasite drag, less lift, higher stall speeds, and you must take off and land at higher speeds. Big wing span, lots of lift, slower take offs and landings, high parasite drag hence a reduction in performance. In conclusion there is no plane or canopy that fits all. Memento Audere Semper 903

  24. Hey man, I saw you swooping the thing, you're kind of awsome with that thing man! You're kind of like a skygod or so. When I grow up I want a Xaos 45. Memento Audere Semper 903
  25. Second to that, total BS that Gelvanor wears faster. As for the Hornet, I used to jump a 150. Really nice canopy overall. Memento Audere Semper 903
