Guy should have launched it.

Those who don't learn from history… True, but a lot of those row houses were built when we were still learning, long before current codes apply. They may have been updated over the years, but without gutting them all and rebuilding the, which does get done often, you can't enact all of the modern fire safety methods. Heck, the whole block used to be a bay, but was back filled with dirt and garbage during the 19th century.

Yeah it's in the old row houses in Back Bay, on Beacon St. They are all connected , but they all have brick walls separating them, but the roofs are all old and wood so it's not hard for them to catch. I've put lots of fireplaces in on Beacon st over the years so I hope they had nothing to do with it. Sucks that people are hurt. Boston has had it's fair share of fires over the centuries. Shit, it's been burnt to the ground more than once.
-
And that's a good reason to not watch/follow it. Let people on the ground watch it and worry about landing yourself under a good canopy.

I saw a guy catch his buddies main at Fitzgerald last year. It then went up into his main and turned it into a ball of shit. He cut away without an RSL and plummeted for a while before getting a reserve out and landing ok.

Skydiving is a really small sport and if you stay in it long enough you will meet lots of folks who post on these forums. Sometimes you will have known them for a while before realizing who they are from DZ.com. I started the tandem/AFF method and it worked well for me. I'm sure whichever path you choose will be awesome so just go for it!

Congrats man. Good luck with the business. I was supposed to sign a lease on a 5000 sq ft. showroom on Tuesday, but the guy signed the building to someone else on Monday. I suppose I could have cut my jumping short at the St. Patty day boogie, come home a day early and done it, but what fun would that be? So now Im back looking at buildings so if I see a nice one for sale I may grab it.

Exited and nervous noob from New Zealand
Trafficdiver replied to fiflyin's topic in Introductions and Greets
The nervousness and sleeplessness and fear of the door are all part of the game. The intensify the taste of the beers you drink afterwards! Have fun! -
I checked out the DB Cooper thread once...looked around...never went back. Twardo's stories from the Old Days thread are as good as stories come. If they made a movie of some of that stuff no one would believe it.

I don't add it up but I'm sure I went through $10k my first year of skydiving. Shit I've blown through 10K on the tunnel alone. Probably a lot more than that actually. Worth every penny.

According to that old thread it wasnt "hidden" as it seems on his old Youtube channel he posted multiple videos of himself and either an instructor or coach from the DZ jumping with him. Seems some people were looking the other way or are blind as bats in doing gear checks. He attached the camera to his hand, then put a glove over it with a hole cut out. How you can conclude that the camera was not hidden is beyond me.

Cheapest jump tickets in the U.S.

Don't know about CA but Skydive Danielson in CT has $14 hop n pops on Wednesday. Best price in New England. -
What do you like about canopy flight?
Trafficdiver replied to ianyapxw's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yeah. Those sunset high pulls are really the icing on the cake of life. Seeming the sun hit the buildings in Boston all the way to the mountains of NH is mind blowing to say the least. 17K hop n pops watching the sun go down over the Gulf of Mexico is better than a sharp stick in the eye...that's for sure. -
Should I go for AFF if I don't have access to any DZ?
Trafficdiver replied to leap_0f_faith's topic in Safety and Training
I say go and do it! Who knows...maybe one day you'll start the first dropzone in Bangladesh. -
Ground launching a wingsuit? It's possible, say physics students!

My coach buys a membership which is 5 hours then sells me 15 minutes with his coaching and a spotter. The spotter only hops in for a few seconds at the beginning and the end unless I do something stupid dangerous, which I do, then he may jump back in to keep me from killing my coach. I may do a few rotations without him on my back and belly or to work on something, but for the most part he stays in and gives me direct feedback. It would take me 10 times as long to figure out sit flying or back flying. Heck learning belly was hard enough and I had some great coaches for that too.
-
Totally jealous.

I see what your getting at you have a spotter in there but not another coach. Still you've got someone telling you debriefing you. I use a coach plus the spotter most often. This dude was also my coach in skydiving before I got my license so I know his style and and he knows me pretty well. I can't imagine how hard it would have been to learn back flying without him, or atleast someone to coach me, it's so unintuitive from bellyflying when you start. Sit flying has been even more difficult for me. That being said the more I sit fly the better my back flying has got. To the point where I am relaxed and actually comfortable doing it. GD when you get in the tunnel have them teach you Mantis Position as that's how the majority of good RW fliers fly. And have fun, it's a bit difficult at first and somewhat frustrating but it gets better the better you get. Just like skydiving.
-
Ahh, I can't disagree with you more on this. Coaches definitely help you progress at every level. Are you telling me you have no one training you how to sit fly and you are figuring it out on your own? I'd like to see the vids. I do think there are times when you should go into the tunnel and work on what they told you for a while, but then learn more once you get it dialed in.
