AFF Student in NorCal, Feeling the Byron Love!
Trafficdiver replied to jonnyp's topic in Introductions and Greets
One day the door monster just goes away. It was around jump 20-30 for me. Now I love sitting by the door...can't get enough of it in fact. When you need to arch just imagine fucking the wind. That's pretty much what you're trying to do. -
Hello to all from Melbourne Australia.

No need to apologize, this is the place to explain why you are as nuts as the rest of us. I think skydiving will do you a world of good. Each jump makes life a little bit better. -

Well, now that you've got that out of the way, when are you doing you FJC. Have you done a tandem yet? Welcome to the forum...thanks for making me feel good about skipping my first marriage. -
Boston for a week. What's some good side trips?

I love Redbones. On top of the awesome BBQ (and the fried catfish) it has the best beer list in Davis Sq. too. Glad you had a good time. -
Uhh, hopefully you'll get it out at 5.5k for your AFF jumps...though I guess 3.5k is better than 0K.

Fortunately you can stop having contact with your closest friends!

Reminder: There's nothing wrong with Mondays, it's your job that sucks.

I love my job...I hate the hangover. -
Mid 80's and I'm standing behind a guy in a leather jacket with an "American Dream" patch on it. I think to my 9 year old self, this guy is more into wrestling than I am. He turns around and it's Dusty Rhodes. I guess he flew out of Orlando a lot but it blew my mind.

If you're not a big fan of using other people's stuff then you're going to need to buy your own plane.

How is the sense of taste and smell doing? I remember walking outside and thinking, wow, I forgot how good morning smelled

Take the train to Cape Ann north of Boston. Stay at a b&b in Rockport or Gloucester and explore the area. It's about an hour by train or car from Boston. Train ticket is about $10. Acadia National Park in Maine is about 4 hours north and is great for a long weekend. It's the most beautiful spot on the east coast IMHO. If its in the winter drive to Stowe in Vermont and stay at an Inn or b&b. great skiing and riding and a lot going on in that small town (its really nice in the summer too.) it's 3 hours north. Edit: oh and after you tour Sam Adams go to the Publick House on Beacon St. in Brookline (off green line in Washington sq.) for some good beer. -
What should a new jumper start with in terms of gear?
Trafficdiver replied to DrDom's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
At 5 jumps I'd go for tunnel time and trips to southern DZ's before buying gear. Once you get off student status you'll get annoyed at having to borrow the DZ's helmets, alti's, suits...then the real spending starts. I'd avoid an Argus AAD. -
Yes. Don't do anything that you wouldn't want to show up on the internet. Ha! That's impossible. Try giving him some more doable advice. Don't plan on doing the high altitude load early Sunday morning. Or late Sunday morning. In fact, don't plan on doing anything Sunday morning.

Whiskey in a Jar is a traditional Irish song, not a Thin Lizzy original.

No not at all. I normally tell the TSA people at the X ray machine what it is and what to look out for. I even have a card from Vigil that shows what it looks like in an X ray machine. Never any problems most are interested in it, show their boss, give it a swab with the bomb tissue paper, and send me on my way. T shirts procured at boogies with threats of violence on the back of them do not go over as easy with the TSA, or the head of Jet Blue security, don't ask me how I know...

I don't know if I would go so far to say it is better than the original, but Stevie Ray Vaugns cover of "Little Wing" is near perfect.

Your English is very good. Everyone has the same fears as you when they start. Take the FJC (first jump course). That's the beginning of understanding this sport and its equipment. It will put to rest some of your fears and replace them with knowledge. Afterward you can do your first AFF jump if you're comfortable with what you learned in your FJC. Or not. Either or is fine. I've got a feeling you'll jump.

Thanks for being the first Aussie who I have ever heard compliment US craft brews! We have come a long way!

Cambridge Brewing Co. is quite good. Harpoon sucks. Go with Allagash out of Portland, Maine or Pretty Things out of Cambridge Ma for a better selection.

Yep. Friends are something you had before you got skydiving friends.

Buying my first rig...what to do
Trafficdiver replied to Shahnwashington's topic in Gear and Rigging
That is a pilot problem, not a canopy problem.
