How inaccurate is a ProTrack when mounted in a helmet?
jurgencamps replied to grue's topic in Gear and Rigging
Optima, protrack, neptune, viso ... are accurate in measuring altitude, even when mounted in your helmet. If you want to measure your speed on the other hand (for speeddiving), whatever device you use, don't put it in your helmet. See your manual for the explanation. -
Not Making It Into the Pattern
jurgencamps replied to MagicGuy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Not all DZ have the same rules. At some DZ you have to fly a left hand pattern and you will have a problem in case of a not so perfect spot. At other DZ, they divide the DZ in 3 parts (left, middle and right) you have to fly a left hand pattern if you land on the left hand side of de DZ, a right hand pattern if you land on the right hand side of the DZ. I think that years agoo, I read an article (by Bryan Burke) somewhere on this website about the pro's and the con's of different landingpatterns (left hand pattern versus splitting the DZ in three parts ). Don't forget the coach, so 1 jump with a coach = 2 X 15 € = 30 €

Don't use a skydivehelmet when you snowboard (not enough protection). On the other hand, sometimes I use my snowboard helmet when I skydive (swoop, tandem). Just check if the chinstrap is attached at the outside of the helmet (otherwise this creates a snagpoint) and that you can remove or at least cover possible snagpoints. Jurgen

Not true: it decides to fire and fires in milliseconds, not 250 ft higher. when you are on your belly, the cypres decides to fire and fires at 750 ft if you are still going faster than the activation speed, when you are in a standup position, the cypres decides to fire and fires at around 1000 ft instead of 750 ft if you are still going faster than the activation speed. Ask airtech (their response at this question has been posted several times here at this website. Gr Jurgen PS please keep us informed about their response.

MiniDV Tapes and Magnetic Riser Covers.
jurgencamps replied to parasale's topic in Photography and Video
Euhm, read again what she said. She replied in the first place to somebody else (Shogo). Your behavior will not invite people to answer your question. Besides that, I don't see the difference between normal tapes and minidv-tapes, it are both magnetic tapes, which can be influenced by a magnet. Jurgen -
Nick Batch swoops 665 feet

And never forget that a swoop competition is distance, speed and accuracy. So even if one canopy has the ability to swoop further than the other one, ... -

PD Reserve wingloading 2:1 and higher
jurgencamps replied to frost's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I don't want to test it, but just to say that I prefer a reserve much bigger than my main. I have a velo 90 and a tempo 150. I don't like the reasoning: small main ==> small reserve. Jurgen -
PD Reserve wingloading 2:1 and higher
jurgencamps replied to frost's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I am very interested to see how a velo 107 and a PD113R fly in a side by side or in a biplane configuration? I personnaly don't believe in the small main-small reserve combination in case of a two out situation with modern very high performance mains. Gr Jugen -
PD Reserve wingloading 2:1 and higher
jurgencamps replied to frost's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Other possible solutions: 1. Argus - swoopmode 2. FXC - easy to switch off during each jump 3. No AAD if you are allowed to jump without one 4. ... -
The vigil and the Argus also have only one button. To access the setupmenu you have to push the button a 4th time, so, no extra buttons. BTW your cypres also logs some/lot's of jumpinfo. So the info is there, why not use it? I own a Cypres I, I jump regulary a Vigil (tandem) and I probably will buy a Argus because I like the swoopmode. Now I have the opportunity to chose. Do I take a one mode cypres II, where I have to decide if I take the expert (Pro: normal activation speed in case of a high speed spinner and I'll blackout, ..., contra: high speed, multirotation hookturns) or the speed version (contra, pro = vice versa) or the multimode Argus where I can switch between the expert and the swoopmode? I can choose solution x, somebody else can choose solution y. Gr Jurgen

Bruno Brokken did it, years ago (pre-cypres era).

PD Reserve wingloading 2:1 and higher
jurgencamps replied to frost's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Do you think swooping will ever get to a point where one actually is going 90+ during a swoop? 90+ vertical speed =/= 90+ horizontal speed. Even if you go at 120 through the gates, I really hope that your vertical speed is (almost) zero at that moment -
http://www.pia.com/piapubs/TSDocuments/ts104-13%20Canopy%20volume%20study_1995.pdf Go to page 5, PD126 = 137 square feet. For a long time I believed that my tempo 150 was bigger than a PD143 Gr Jurgen

Ask mirage, they will build you a container for a big reserve and a small main. A friend ordered a mirage with a PD 143 and a katana 89. BTW a velo 120 packs bigger than a katana 135. My velo 90 packs quite bigger than my katana 107. Gr Jurgen

I only use my tapes ones. Jurgen

Do the Cypres, Vigil and Argus have a different cutter? I remember a test were the reporter stated "fridge A" = better than "fridge B", but what he didn't knew, it was the same fridge sold under a different name. Jurgen

Newbie questions about streamer.
jurgencamps replied to d123's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
When you have a baglock and you are in a standup position, you will fall faster than when you are flat on your belly (only the pilotchute is slowing you down). I don't believe that the same thing is true when you have a streamer. You are in the same position, but with a lot more fabric above your head. There are several (some?, at least more than those who survived a total mal ) skydivers who have survived an impact under a streaming canopy. Jurgen -
Do you need a gadget or a AAD? If you need that info, buy a protrack, neptune, ... Do you decide which car you buy based on the number of cupholders?
