  1. The concept of "deciding to fire" and then firing later is something that some people were spouting off when the vigil first came out to try and convince people to buy a vigil instead and it just isn't true. This story about deciding to fire already existed when Cypres was the only electronic AAD and has nothing to do with Vigil or Argus. Lot's of people did not understand "the burble on the back" and tried to explain why a cypres fired at around 1000 ft when you were stood up under a snivelling canopy after a very low pull. Gr Jurgen

  3. Please consider what will happen if you bent the hardware in your ankle.
  4. I remember the article in the Reader's Digest. It was a double mal, but he still had a streaming main and a reserve wrapped around (or at least in the same mess) it. So it was not a "total". Jurgen
  5. I have never jumped a cobalt, but I have 1600 jumps on a vengeance (VN) 120 (WL 1,65). This canopy flies extremely well at slow speeds. Some VN open weird, some open very good. So test jump the canopy, but I advise you not to jump it with a light WL or with a WL above 1.8. I really liked the canopy. It dives good, it can go fast and and also it keeps flying at slow speeds. It's a very good all-round canopy, with a lot flare and lift. At the end, I did 270's at 570 ft. Now a few years and 900 jumps (katana, velocity) later, I will buy my old VN back from the guy I sold it to and will jump it again. But thats another story (an injury which will keep me from jumping my velo for the next months/years) Cu Jurgen
  6. Have you already made at least one skydive? Start jumping first, buy later. Don't buy gear at this stage of your skydivingcareer. CU Jurgen
  7. Low air pressure? Thinks that you are below sea level? There is a thread on DZ.com about this "below sea level" pressure "problem" on the older vigils. Have you mailed AAD?
  8. X-mas 2000, Eloy. A local freefly instructor enters the hangar with his canopy (with 3 broken lines) and says "this canopy is death". He explains that the canopy (x-fire 2) has more than 6000 jumps.
  9. It does. The largest DZ in Europe (Empuria) generally uses it as their guide for exit seperation... That is not my experience in Empuria. They always explained me another way (time between two groups). Who (which instructor, ...) told you that or where do you get your information from? Jurgen
  10. How much extra stress it will cause and how it will distract you, so that you forget to put on your goggles or altimeter or ... Jurgen
  11. 1. Pilot chute in tow if you put on your gear with a twist in the right legstrap. 2. Higher risk: - premature opening due to the long part of the briddle exposed to the wind - out of sequence opening if something catches the exposed briddle. Jurgen
  12. Fact 4: How many owners of a cypres, will offset it correctly, but forget that they have to do it after each jump in certain circumstances (I have been on at least one DZ where they have to do this when the wind comes from a certain direction - the hill under the exitpoint is more than 100 ft higher than the DZ). So only the first jump their AAD is set correctly ("This lends itself to potential operator error ") The VIGIL shows very clearly that it is set with a certain ofset. The different AAD's give you certain different options. The user can make a choice. Do you like multimodes or not, pick brand A, B, C, D, ... As a swooper do you jump an AAD or do you prefer a speed-version or a swoopmode. Which one is safer or better? It depends on what you do with it. I never jump from pressurized jumpplanes, I like to choose between a normal mode and a swoopmode. So my choice can be different from yours. Lesson: brand A is not better than brand B, C, D, ..., it's just different with different options and different pro's and contra's. It's up to the user to buy what he needs and is able to handle. If I need a pickup, I don't buy a Porsche because it's the best sportscar. Jurgen
  13. I cannot answer your question, but from the US to Europe (taxes, shipping, insurance, ...) it's + 30/35%. Jurgen
  14. Can somebody in Eloy ask AZAirspeed to give their opinion about this thread, so that this discussion can be closed? Ppppppppppppppplease. A non uspa, non american citizen dropzone.com member. Jurgen BTW ever seen a pirelli calendar? http://www.pirellical.com/thecal/home.html They don't show a lot of tires, but nevertheless people like that calendar
  15. 01 and 02 Nov are probably officialy holidays in France (like in Belgium).
  16. They exist already a few years. I saw them at a swoopevent in 2004. They make nice stuff (for ex. ankle weights, weightbelts, packingmats ...). I don't think you have to be afraid that they will steal your money if that is your question.
  17. It took us some time to get in contact with them and to order the helmets (six weeks in our case), but it took RAWA only a few days (1 week) to deliver some nice helmets.
  18. Some students do perfect exits (static-line) and make ... euhm ... less perfect exits when they have to pull for themselves. And yes it is a normal feeling.
  19. "The news of the feat soon travelled around the base and later Colonel Heflin, the Group CO, asked them for all the details. He decided to record the event and after they had recovered, a parachute was rigged up on a crane and the two "celebrities" demonstrated their act for the photographers."
  20. Hey Hoop, Howard may or may not know what it is, but I'm guessing a Belgian Stampe (Pronounced 'Stomp") Stampe SV4 http://caea.free.fr/en/coll/stampe.html http://www.pilotfriend.com/aircraft%20performance/Stampe%20SV4.htm 359
  21. Hey unstable, it's just seems more expensive because the exchange rate € - $ is not that good for you. With different exchange rates (like a few years ago, it would be different. But don't forget that fuel prices in Europe are higher.
  22. 17,5 € (13000 Ft) = 23,5 $ 16 € (if you buy 10 jumps) = 21,5 $ 14,9 € (if you buy 100 jumps) = 20 $ PCV, Belgium
  23. They still use them and their school is still in Schaffen near Diest. Jurgen
