  1. Getting big was the best thing you could do when you were jumping a round canopy.
  2. ????????? Don't believe everything that's on television
  3. I prefer soft links (PD) over iron links.
  4. "Relative Workshop expects main pilotchutes to provide about 80 pounds of drag at terminal velocity" In the same test they found that the force needed to extract the pin from the closing loop never exceeds 10 pound (article in an US skydiving magazine)
  5. Hey there is a very good wind tunnel in Lille, France, just on the other side of the channel. CU JC
  6. "hang out until your preplanned breakoff altitude...even if the dive has gone to shit, hang out and wait" Why?
  7. About to go jump the skyvan at Spa Belgium, how do I turn off my pro dytter, It´s not on economical and elevation here is different than my home, I heard the 1000 ft noise while coming here! Blues... AiRpollUtiOn (undercover)
  8. My mistake, Wanted to react on Drenaline's reply. You are 100 % right when you state that just switching it off and on is not enough and that you have to do this after each jump. Page 33 is also related at this topic
  9. Spain, Ampuria, is also very good. Jumps in the UK are very expensive (also in France and in Germany) Jumps in Belgium are cheaper and we are also very nice people BTW Look at www.skydiving.be Have a nice stay in Europe
  10. It depends. After sales policy is also very important.
  11. Sorry but you are wrong Read the manual and you will know why.
  12. Look at the site of RWS (Relative workshop) . I think I saw there some comment on this issue (pin 1/2 2/3 or ...) The advice = put the pin as far as possible in the closing loop. You do not have to be afraid that it will not come out when it has to come out and it prevents that the container opens to early. The same rule applies at the length of your closing loop, it has to fit very tight.
  13. Third rule: pull at altitude, not at 2200 ft. I think it is wise to pull at 3000 ft. At 2200 ft you have not much time left after dumping your pc to notice: 1. shit I have a problem 2. which problem and to 3. solve the problem. At 2200 ft and at terminal velocity you have 13 sec before impact. This leaves you 8 sec to react (if you activate your reserve at 800-1000 ft) when you have a total malfunction. In her case she has more time, but still you do not have time to waste. So think save and do not pull low I do not know the USPA regulations but I think that it is common sense that more and more skydivers track away from each other at 4000 ft (or higher) and dump at 3000 ft. What do you all think of this?
  14. The first few jumps, my vengeance had some bad openings (end cell closure, dives to one side ...) Just adapted my packing a little bit and voilà. The canopy don't like that you pack it to carefully (strange?).
  15. I have a vengeance 120, (1,6) and I am very happy with this canopy. It swoops very good and even in no wind conditions you don't need to run at the end of a good swoop. PD says that if you want to load it heavier then 1,8 that you better buy a velocity.
  16. Collapse it. Your canopy will fly better. Your slider slows you down, it gives NO extra lift, only extra drag.
  17. You have to insert your closing pin completely, not 3/4 or 1/2. Your closing loop has to be tight. Even with a very tight loop, the max force to extract your pin is about 10 lbl Pound and a normal PC pulls around 80 lbl pound. So there is no need to have a loose closing loop. (read this somewhere, I think it come from RWS)
  18. The russians did that too. Just before WW II they experimented with this kind of jumps without a parachute.
  19. I have Vectran lines and I am very happy about them. Sure, you have to check them regularly. After less than 50 jumps, my lower control lines became very fuzzy. The velcro on my risers caused the problem. I changed risers (without velcro) and replaced those control lines. Since then, no fuzzy lines anymore (just need a reline after 450 jumps). Jurgen
  20. Sorry folks, my fault. The German article did not mention a trim problem. But the description of the accident (nose of the plane goes vertical, pilot struggles to get the plane back to horizontal) fits very well the description of a problem with the trim. So maybe it was not the trim, but nevertheless it is still usefull to know how to check yourself the trim of the Porter Pilatus.
  21. What can you do to prevent these kind of accidents with a Pilatus Porter? Ask a pilot how you can see if the trim is set correctly. You can notice it immediately when you look at the tail of the airplane. So never get in a Porter when the trim is not set correctly. CU
  22. In Belgium they do not take 11 jumpers in a Pilatus Porter, 10 is the maximum. BTW the DZ was Temploux near Namur, not SPA. In SPA they have a Cesna Caravan
  23. Have a vengeance 120. Had a few similar problems the first 5 jumps. I adapted my packing and had no problems anymore.
  24. I do not like the idea that you attach your slider to your neck collar. Two years ago, I saw a canopy collision during the final approach. One parachutist had to cut away her damaged main. She was less then three seconds under her reserve and she had no time left to unstow her brakes. Every second counts. You do not need something that slow downs or prevents you of cutting away your main. I just collapse my slider, bring it behind my neck and open my chest strap as far as possible. It works very well.
