It’s actually no surprise that evangelicals embrace Trump. Their whole ethos and belief system relies on ignoring the overwhelming evidence of facts to embrace a fictitious storyline. The USA has a religious fundamentalist problem and it isn’t the muslims! With every passing day I feel that my views that the USA is closer in ideology to Iran than it is to most of Europe. Especially as you venture into the Bible belt.

So if you’re a firm believer in faith would you jump and not not pull anything and let Jesus take care of you?

Stolen from somewhere else, but I thought worth repeating “This is a recording. Please listen because our excuses change. Press 1 for Hillary. Press 2 for Obama. Press 3 for Liberals. Press 4 for 'Lamestream media'. Press 5 for 'Deepstate' and press 6 for Soros.”

Honestly I have family who are this fundamentalist and I don’t think it is sensible to engage. The bible says something along the lines of ‘my ways seem foolish to those of the world’ and I’ve had it quoted at me more times than I care to admit. Some people need a belief as a reason to live. They don’t understand a world without god, it is too scary and chaotic for them to fathom. So god gives them a reason to cope and make sense of it all. Many of these people are reformed drug or alcoholics and god is the ‘safe’ drug. All my life I’ve lived by the creed that they are harmless and not to take it away from them, but I was/am wrong. They end up breeding terrorists and fucking up people’s heads. But I don’t know the answer, because logic will never work. They are continually taught that logic is sinful and wrong. My only hope is that by our example we can show that it is possible to live and make sense of a world without god. Happily, and no we don’t all go off raping and pillaging at every opportunity we get.

It is one thing to celebrate videos of death and destruction and rationalise that it’s ok because ‘you’re the good guys’ and a totally different thing to be ok with the ending of a philosophy. I can’t wait for Christianity and Islam to die, that does not mean I wish for a single Christian or Muslim to die. Personally I think Coreece is performing some mental gymnastics to equate the two. The blunt facts are that throughout history religious fanatics have wished harm and destruction on their enemies, they just don’t like having their hypocrisy highlighted. The bible is packed full of the very stuff that elicits outrage from Christians, when muslims express the same views. During the gulf war I remember the ‘glass parking lot’ comments being made here in speakers corner...

What sickens me is the videos. Don’t fucking glorify death! I see no difference between an isis beheading video and a US bomb video. They even took the time to set it to music for Christ’s sake. It is morally repugnant and to me it shows how little difference there is between the radical Muslim who likes watching isis videos and the redneck who likes watching ‘hoo raa’ videos. Ironically both are normally religious fundamentalists. Life is to be treasured and valued, regardless of race, creed or culture.

It's all getting a bit mental over this side of the pond

Serious question, how much of all of this is hyperbole? I will admit that prior to the vote I would have voted to exit, largely because back then I held a different belief about globalisation. My views have changed largely due to Trump and the USA isolationist agenda and I would now vote against Brexit. i don’t know if it’s possible to turn back the clock for the UK? -
You really think have armed civilians in Hong Kong would result in anything other than a total bloodbath? i would be willing to bet that if the civilians started fighting back the big guns would come out. I really think that is the most naive fantasy land example. How well did it go for all the good old people in Waco Texas? They had the second amendment and used it...

No, You see everyone involved knew that if they found him guilty Hillary would possessed them and they would have an uncontrollable urge to commit suicide, and not only that Hillary would ensure that if they resisted the urge, strange and mysterious car crashes or other other terrible events would befall them. Trump he is the chosen one, elected by God to defend against the anti Christ. It is clear to anyone who has read what the bible has to say on the matter can see this. We should not be trusting the fake media but rather reputable and brave sources such as this writer, brave enough to stand up and be a light in the world of darkness https://www.cogwriter.com/hillary-clinton-prophecy-antichrist.htm So repent and believe all you heathens. Arm yourselves and prepare for the spiritual battle to come. Ensure you are not ensnared by homosexual thoughts by regularly grabbing women by the pussy, if they resist then you know they are part of the Hillary antichrist army!

A manager once told me, people usually assume a conspiracy or motive when the truth is it’s usually simple incompetence. It is quite plausible that in an understaffed facility the infrastructure would also be in a state of disrepair. What amuses me having run a department of 50 people with keeping things contained and avoiding leaks was next to impossible. And yet people believe these massive conspiracies that would require 100’s of people involved somehow are supposed to be iron clad. Hillary has killed hundreds etc..

That is utterly impossible, there was a black man in the White House then. An Islamic Kenyan no less!

Trump ‘duly ordered’ US companies out of China. With companies like Apple etc heavily reliant on China, it seems to me that the Chinese could give Trump exactly what he wants and remove the ability to operate in China. It seems in most countries there are laws that give foreign countries a ‘license to operate’. With Trump being a petulant child and behaving the way he is, if I was Chinese I would honestly pick one or two key US companies and pull their license to operate. It would not have to be for long but could you imagine the repercussions just prior to Christmas, a new iPhone release or whatever if they did this? Forget Russians manipulating elections, I feel the Chinese could pull far bigger punches if this continues to escalate.

What I find interesting is all this talk of bans etc. I now live in Australia which has gun laws that are often quoted and yet working in the city I know a number of people who quite legitimately and legally own guns. I do not know the hoops they have had to jump through to get them, I do know licenses are expensive, but there are still guns in Australia. It seems the whole second amendment groups believe it is black and white. You can either have any gun with no restrictions or none at all. They paint this picture that the USA should go from very liberal on guns to the strictest of all. As a side note, from the outside what I have always found ironic is how similar the USA is to the countries that they hate in the Middle East. In Iraq/Iran guns are plentiful, nudity is a crime and suppressed and religion and religious zealots influence politics. So pause for thought for the republican voters, do you really like being like Iran?
-
Other wealthy countries do not freak out about titties on TV. I blame the lack of nudity on American TV
-
Neither do we have an orange lunatic running the asylum
-
In all honesty I think you would rationalise it. I think it would be deep state or some other excuse. Edited to add: I think Ryoder absolutely nailed it
-
Is your blessed Trump exempt from being a luciferian? What will you do if it comes out Trump is a pedophile?
-
I am pretty sure it was a suicide, I know some are saying Trump is behind it all. But that said yes as a high risk individual those in charge carry significant blame for allowing it.

I can’t believe that the classless piece of shit in the Whitehouse has the audacity to retweet that Epstein was killed to cover up for Bill Clinton. The USA sure elected a clown and it goes to show how even a ‘stable’ first world country is only one lunatic away from being a banana republic. I didn’t think I would live in an age where reality TV and reality merged into one complicated mess.

"Pooh?" said Piglet. "Yes, Piglet?" replied Pooh. "Is everything going to be OK?" "In what way, Piglet?" asked Pooh. Piglet rubbed his nose in a nervous sort of way. "You know, with Brexit. And rationing. And 729 international treaties to re-negotiate from scratch just to get back to here. And," the Piglet ran out of breath then made a small choking noise and swallowed. "And all that?" he finished and looked over at Pooh with a hopeful look. Pooh Bear rubbed his nose too, but didn't find it quite as comforting as it seemed to be for the Piglet. "Well, Piglet." Pooh said and then stopped to think some more, for this was a very Big Thing for a Bear of Very Little Brain to consider. "Well Piglet," he finally continued, "It all sounds like a very silly idea to me." Pooh and Piglet looked out over the Hundred Acre Wood and contemplated the matter. Quietly, Piglet slipped his paw into Pooh's. "We're totally fucked, aren't we?" the Piglet managed in a hoarse whisper. "Oh yes." replied Pooh, patting his paw. "Completely fucked."

Wow. I remember the incident but didn’t realise it was that bad.

A friend of mine is a software engineer. In Uni they had a black guy who he studied with. This black guy got good marks but had a Nigerian name (this was in the UK). Everyone else got employed as it was late nineties and the whole dot.com boom, but this guy didn’t even get called for interviews. Now this guy was ‘smart’, he changed his name through the legal system to Bill Gates, from memory he was employed within the week. Granted as a software engineer it was a really attractive choice for employers and people, but it shows the bias we have. He was no more or less competent with a different name.

It seems people get hung up on what the priorities should be, and argue that until X,Y or Z are solved we shouldn’t fix a problem. It’s a whole combination of factors that include cost, benefit analysis. Quite simply there are weapons that have the potential to cause great harm, beyond being a hobby item they have little value in a civilised society and relatively few are inconvenienced by removing or limiting access. No removing them doesn’t stop a nut job going on a violent spree. I would rather be in an environment where the nut job can go on a spree with a knife, than an Apache attack helicopter fully loaded with weaponry.
