Do they ever look pretty??? I would think that it has to do with the shape. you have round chutes that are well......round. Square chutes that are square shaped, semi elipticles that have an elipticle curve on the nose and tail but then straighten out on the sides , and then full elipticles that take on the shape of an elipticle circle! Have to agree with monk on this !! everyone at my DZ just keeps an eye on the kids running around. My little girl (2yr) goes with me and gets to play hackey with the ohter jumpers. I even had one guy come up (i new him of coarse) and tell me go jump I'll watch her for ya! Even offerd to let me demo his safire 169! jason

I just hope the Karma doesnt kick in when an unknowing passanger is clipped in!!! if ya know what I mean! Me personally I would not want to jump at a place where the equipment is refered to as "beaten up" by other jumpers. Great googly moogly my wife has agreed to go up on an observation ride with me when I jump out!!!! I know it may not sound like that big of deal but you dont know my wife! And here is the kicker she even said when (if) I become a tandem master she will go on a tandem with me!!! Damn thats a ways away, but beleive me I WILL NOT FORGET THOSE WORDS. We even shook on it! We have a king air coming for a week but I told her I wont let her ride that up because they make the observers ride up front of the plane. I want her to go on the cessna so when that door opens she gets a good look no matter where she sits (not to much room to hide in a 182). Shes gone up with my dad in his little decathalon but never experianced THE DOOR!!!!!! . I told her shed make a great Skydiver cause she's into gymnastics, I said there ya go get into freestyle skydiving. One thing at a time I guess Anyway I'm pretty excited. I know at my DZ its only required for students. Once off student status its up to you, unless your jumping rental gear then its up to whether that rig has one or not jason

Depends on what you want and how much you want to pay. Myself I bought new container, new reserve, and a used main (150 jumps 0n it). The only reason I went new with the two items was because I got a KILLER deal. Plus for me the way I look at it is that I got a pretty good all round use container so as long as I keep it in good condition it should be good for damn near life where as with the main I plan on downsizing in the future so I'm didnt want to spend a lot of $$$ on that. But I did get what I wanted and have NO complaints!! However if you do plan on keeping the container make sure it will fit the size conpies you plan on downsizing to or you'll have to buy a new one of those and reserver to fit. just my .02 jason A-38658
