In the Unruley slider post there were some comments made about loading a F-111 canopy above 1.1. One comment form Lisa was that it can lose perfomance and flare power loaded over 1.1. Another comment was: I fly a pd170 with approx200jumps on it loaded around 1.03, and I was just wondering if you could elaberate on losing performance , and what is the dangers that go along with the loading over 1.1. I'm not paroniod or anything just a little concerned becuase I fly a F-111 canopy. What are things to look out for in the performance aspect. Jason A-38658

I just hope he understands that this could take years of study you know with all us DZ.commers here. We could send him over to korea with JT to keep him company at the "hooches"

Heres my take on the whole flying thing, I dont mean to sound harsh so I hope not to offend anyone but hijacking has been going on forever, and hijacking will continue to go on. When and where, nobody knows. But to stop flying because of all this I think isnt the answer. Millions of people die from car crashes every year but do we stop driving? And what about palne crashes, I dont have the stats but I'll bet the odds of being in a plane crash are better that being hijacked, and even then the odds of being in a crash are small. I know this sounds harsh but hey thats just the way it is. If I had plans to fly you bet your ass I'm going. This whole thing has put a struggle on everyone but I'm not going to let it slow my life down and be scared for the rest of it. But when it all comes down ,you should do what you feel comfortable with!! And while were on the topic this whole anthrax thing is getting way outa proportion I think. I mean come on people we've had how many deaths from this shit? Like 2 or 4. Hell what abotu the millions diagnosed with cancer /yr, or all the people that die from the Flu/yr. Hell give me anthrax anyday at least I'll have a good chance to live. There are people with cancer that have no hope and other types of diseases. Yes I understand inhalent anthrax is deadly if not caught right away but it is EXTREMELy rare (do the reading) Intestinal anthrax has only a 50% death rate and thats only if you dont get treated after you feel the simtums and cutaneous anthrax is only less than 20% death rate, and you'd have to be an idoit to get that and not notice anything .again do the reading. I know you may say well were is your facts on this info. Again I say look around the info is all over the internet and I've done my fare share of reading. I know it going to be a long raod for some who have delt with the WTC event head on and for them I say good luck adn wish the best for thier futures but for the rest of us continue on with your lives the best you can, and dont live the remainder of it in fear or afraid. Well I've babled enough with. The opinons expressed here are just that my opinions. others will vary jason

I saw a vidoe of (and dont quote me ) but I believe it was Jan davis's husband. He was going to film a big way and you can see everyone is just crushed into everyone on jump run, by the way they were in a skyvan, and because of lack of O2 and being crushed he passed out. On the video you can see him just standing there and when the green lite came on everyone just pushed out with him in the mix. From another camera mans angle you can see him just tumble out for second. He said later that he regained consiousness at approx 7000ft and pulled. Thats one lucky guy. Glad to here your doing Ok and didnt get that far!!!!!Thats scary stuff to black out. Did it myself when I got kicked in the head at a soccer game I was playing in. They said when I woke up I was so scared and unaware of anything that they had to strap me down cause I was fighting off people that were trying to help me. jason

Well we got our jumps in from 16000ft on sun (actually got one from 16600). Holy sh$t thats a long way to the bottom. On a two way sit I did we exited together and held it for a while then started to spin outa control so we broke off and went right into a sit. then a few seconds later I tumbled real bad and corked like a bitch(still very new at the FF thing) he dropped like a rock so far there was no way I could catch and because I could see him right under like probably 500ft plus I thought that this wasnt a good place to be incase he deploys so I started to track off away and when I got clear of him I looked at my alt and was still only at 7000ft, SHIT!!!!! plenty of time so I went right back into a sit and actually held it very stable until pull time. bellied out at 4000 to slow down and pulled just under 3000. Granted a 3000ft sit hold isnt much but for me it was one of my funnest jumps yet!! 16000ft kicks ass!!!!!! jason DISCLAIMER: yes I know corking is very hazardous in FF however we were last out on a 8 sec spread so there wasnt any traffic when we left plus we both talked about what we were going to do in the event I cork because I'm still so new at this (freeflying) so everyones ass was covered!!

If you think hazing in skydiving is bad check out this poor basturd: Electrical lineman files discrimination complaints By ALLAN TURNER Copyright 2001 Houston Chronicle A 24-year-old apprentice electrical lineman has filed state and federal sex discrimination complaints against a Tomball construction company after co-workers allegedly lashed him to a utility pole and spray-painted his genitals. The plaintiff, a Matagorda County man who is married and has three children, said the episode occurred 11 a.m. Sept. 10 as young linemen roughhoused at a George M. Construction Co. work site at McDuffie and West Main. The apprentice said two journeymen -- workers a level above apprentices in a union-sanctioned training program -- bound him to the pole with tape, then sprayed him with orange enamel engine paint. "I saw them tie another guy up a week or so earlier, but they didn't paint him," said the apprentice, who spoke only on the condition that he not be identified. "I'd always been told that if you didn't fight, they'd leave you alone. "As soon as that paint hits you ... I started untying, ripping, trying to get free. The harder I fought, they just loved it that much more." The Houston case resembles recent incidents elsewhere in the nation, and some familiar with the trade suggested the attacks might be vestiges of a once-common practice of hazing new or inept workers. The man said supervisors regarded the incident as a joke, and when it became evident he might pursue legal action, one warned he would be blacklisted and never again work as a lineman. "My wife, as soon as I got home, she started crying," the man said. "I can't afford to quit the business. I've got too much money dumped into it. I had to buy textbooks, tools for the trade and boots." Construction company attorney Robert Langston declined to comment on the allegations. Plaintiff's attorney Charles Peckham filed sex discrimination and retaliation complaints with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Texas Commission on Human Rights. After investigation, those agencies could initiate action or refer the case for civil litigation. In March 1998, the U.S. Supreme Court unanimously ruled in Oncale v. Offshore Sundowner, a case stemming from attacks aboard a Louisiana off-shore oil rig, that federal law banning sex discrimination also applies to instances of same-sex harassment. In that case, roustabout Joseph Oncale charged that co-workers and a supervisor sexually taunted and attacked him. When he complained to company officials, the incidents were dismissed as being similar to fraternity hazing pranks. "Common sense and an appropriate sensitivity to social context," the court found, "will enable courts and juries to distinguish between simple teasing or roughhousing among members of the same sex, and conduct which a reasonable person in the plaintiff's position would find severely hostile or abusive." Last year, two apprentice linemen -- one in Nashville, Tenn., the other in Albuquerque, N.M. -- sued their employers alleging that they were assaulted by co-workers who restrained them and spray-painted their genitals. Lawyers in both cases said the lawsuits were settled out of court in favor of the plaintiffs. In the Houston case, the plaintiff was assigned to work for the Tomball construction company by Lineman Local 66 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers as part of a 7,000-hour apprentice training program. Local 66 business representative Ross Mitchell expressed surprise about the local allegations. "There had been a hazing-type situation such as this that went on years ago," he said. "But we were pretty much under the impression that it had stopped." Mitchell said employers led the way in curbing such activity. "We have encouraged the guys to go along with the contractors' suggestion that it all stop," he said. Allen Fulmer, who is owner ofLinemenOnline.Com, a Web site dedicated to issues facing the trade, said he was unfamiliar with spray-painting incidents but acknowledged that hazing occurred. "It is something that used to be common and probably still would, but now our crews have gotten smaller," he said. "Back 25 to 30 years ago, a crew would be made up of about 10 men, and you usually had six or eight on the ground so there was more horseplaying. It was all in fun and wasn't meant to belittle anybody." Earlier this year in Atlanta, he said, "I had a six-man crew and a grunt that was a good worker but constantly screwed up. ... My last day there, as a going-away gift, the crew tied him up in the sub station and whipped him with a belt while I took some pictures. That sounds terrible, doesn't it? But it wasn't. They didn't whip him too hard, and he was laughing the whole time." Wayne Blackley, owner of Associated Training Corp. in Dallas, a company that provides advanced training for linemen, also said he was unfamiliar with spray-paint attacks, but noted that linemen are "pretty rough and tumble" and that some of their horseplay "is pretty foul." "I started working as a lineman in '57," he said. "When one of my best friends was getting married, we painted him with iodine. It was all considered good-natured. It wasn't uncommon to get your (genitals) painted. ... The horseplay that went on was pretty rough, but I can't imagine putting paint on someone." Edward Geiger, dean of work force development at Houston Community College Central Campus, said the recent spray-painting incidents -- including the one alleged in Houston -- "are pretty much exceptions of the rule." Most companies, he said, are aware that any type of harassment, especially that with a sexual component, places them at great risk. Still, he said, a culture of hazing persists. "There always will be some renegade person who wants to see what he can get away with," he said. ------------------------------ Theres one profession I'll stay away from!!! jason

Thanxs lisa for recognizing us poor foke skydivers. I got my PD170 with only 150 jumps for 400$. Its not that I dont want to learn or fly ZP its just this is my first year in the sport so I've already put out thousands of $$$ to get started and just cant afford a new main period be it ZP or F-111. Plus right now I load mine at about 1.1 and still feel I'm coming in fast on a no wind day so I'm in no hurry to downsize. Hell I get a kick outa doing a 15ft surf let alone a 100ft surf. jason

I completely agree. I know I had mine changed to a collapsible just for the noise factor. NOw its a lot more quite and peaceful under canopy. Sometimes I can even hear the birds singing. Plus for 20$ it was worth it!! jason P.S and whats these bad hablits your talking about. Now you got me all worried about my F-111 and I wont be able to afford a ZP for at least a year or two!!!!

I fly a PD170 f-111 main and the slider sounded like a damn harlley flappin in the air. Thers is a guy at our DZ that I had modify it to a double pull string collapsible and now its quit as can be. All I have to do is grab both strings , give it a pull and its done. Cost 20$ for the mod!!! So chek at DZ for someone to do that. I know people with velcro and they dont like it. Not to say it isnt good I just know the people I've talked to that have it say its a pain to grab and rap around and then of coarse its velcro so how long will that last. Just my .02 jason
