I have excellent video and stills of Aviatr's skyhook cutaway. The RWS folks are going to use them in their adverts. The video will definitely be in the DZ.Holiday Boogie '03 video.

OK, I'm uploading 469 pictures to my site. Shutterfly is telling me that is going to take 14 hours. I'm a little dissapointed in many of the pictures because the focus isn't as sharp as I'd like. The overcast had everything so dark, I wasn't able to cheat with the large f-stop that I usually get in the bright light of skydiving. One of the issues shooting with a flash is getting a full exposure, and that happens at 1/200th of a second with the 10D. Another thing I tried for the first time was jumping a zoom telephoto lens at about 135mm. I got the pictures of CoconutMonkey exiting the DC-3 this way, and the Skyhook cutaway, and the neato pics of the three stack at the end of the cross country. So, they are uploading, and I'll know which photos are being submitted to Parachutist soon, so they'll be up when they're up. There's lots of fun stuff, and I hope it's worth the wait. JP

I kissed Katie a mess of times. She's a cool cat. She insisted on meeting my wife before giving me a monkey hug once she was in town, "Cause I know about women. I don't like them grabbing on MY monkey until after I know who they are". Bwah!

You know I'm kidding. Well, mostly. The video just doesn't do this thing justice. I guess I'll figure out how a pixie can muscle two meat-bombs (Bwahahahaha! j/k) back to belly down so she could do the parallel bar routing on them in about 10,000 more jumps. Maybe I'll be able to get Centrum Silver to sponsor me....

I give up. I just have to post this. Betsy started with these short-bus-riders in this amazing display of kinetic energy and chaos theory fig 1, and turned it into this, fig 2. She's a sweetie, I'd have deployed both of you I'm going to start shooting competition FF camera just so I stand a chance of staying in the same neighborhood with this kind of stuff.

I'll have my tandem rating in a month or two, and I'll be able to address the stuff from both sides of the camera next year. Pablito is absolutely right. The dynamic between the Camera flier and the tandem master is critical. Oh, and Bets? The food at the Prop was great. Monkey Fries are a food that must be eaten, but not looked at for long. BAM! Good stuff. And being waited on at the bar by world champion freeflier chicks did not suck at all.

Pixie lady, I am convinced that for the first few days, everybody thought it was too good to be true. Me and Iwan kept having trouble gettin on loads with folks cause they couldn't believe video was free. While I was getting ready to go shoot a zoo load, this cool freeflier guy asks to come along and I kinda discourage him cause the skill level is all over the place. While we're riding to altitude, I figure out it's Greg Gasson. D'OH! Having guys like Gasson, Omar, Finley, and McGowan asking to "come along" on your skydives really does seem too good to be true. Getting coaching and advice from them gratis is insane. The fireside talks and the seminars were really, really inspirational. Next year, I'd like to do a seminar on tandem and AFF video, stuff that the legends have left far behind, but that I heard there was some interest in. The New Year's party was great. Bringing my Mrs. was a brilliant idea too, cause next year I'm there from first to last.

Much better skydiving this year. WAY more of it worked, and we had coaches on line every day. Not just coaches, but the very best coaches in this solar system.

I'm lousy at insults. I unfortunately almost always skip past the chest-bumping "Yo Mama" stage where normal people back off after the insult phase and go right to chair-breaking. The best insult ever directed at me in anger was from a fella who called me a "doughnut eating biscuit head" I had no idea what it meant and it had me in hysterics. It's a derogatory racial epithet for white cop. I liked that one a lot.

Yeah, Kev, that's true here in Cali, too. If not currently in prison or currently on parole folks can vote. That's true in most states. Willie has been in tax trouble through many political administrations. He's a bipartisan tax-dodger.

Jumped the 27th through the first. I think it was 23 jumps. All camera, some RW and some FF. First day was 8 way camp with Craig G of Airspeed, one balloon jump on Jaime's 100th, video'd Alana's 100th with Omar, got one Birdman jump in with some monkeys and took a whole ton of stills. Got some very special freefall and canopy photos of Betsy and McGowan. Got geeked in international champion style by HooknSwoop and DaGimp. Shared a 50 year old bottle of whiskey with friends. Mike McGowan gave me the coolest picture I've ever got. In a secret ceremony in the Pixie Lair I was bestowed a Skymonkey hat. Lip-synched a dog named Tater. 2003 started out like being drug over broken glass, but ended beautifully. I am rich in friendship.
