Yeah, face and neck peeled right off. Bright sun and windburn. I did much better this year, but I just can't drink enough water in Arizona. Getting tanked every night didn't help either. I use neosporin for the inside of my nose when it's dry like that. I'm sure lotion works, but I couldn't hack the smell.

For such a badass, you're sounding kinda whiney . I struggled with the damn thing mightily last year. What I suggest is you collect the clips out of your camera. Less is more. You hook the camera up to your computer via firewire and control it from the keyboard. Once you have the clips, go to the storyboard and arrange them in the order you like them, then you can automate them to the timeline. If you're not going to be using the sound of freefall or at all, don't collect it with the clips, it saves some file size. Then write it all back into your camera on a new mini DV. Oh. Dude, I don't know if the micro DV format is supported. If it is, that stuff I just wrote should get you on your way.

First outing with the stills camera with my bud deBar, both of us in new S3's. Thought I'd share. -
Don't feel bad. Remember I was the guy who brought an Espresso machine to Eloy. Like Quade once said, me without coffee in the morning is like the first 10 minutes of Saving Private Ryan, only much more violent.

I get a huge barrel shadow when using onboard flash and the 14. Not a problem with the 20 if I have the lens hood off. I took the attached photo with the onboard flash and the 20mm at 1/200th. I think it's much better than without it, but yeah, I was right on top of these guys.

It looks big. I have a rental Flat Top Pro until mine arrives, and I haven't seen a better cutaway system yet. I have no expectatiions of ever needing a cutaway, but feel stupid not having one since such practical ones are out there. Fly good equipment for camera, deploy with good body position, this cutaway stuff should be an "Oh-shit!" moment of the first magnitude. If I ever have to chop my 5 grand worth of camera gear off my head I will be so pissed at myself for letting things get to that point. I will do it in less than a heartbeat, but it should be preventable.

Yeah, I took that one. I do evil well.

Moto! Surrounded by the wonderful people at Eloy, it was easy. Shiny happy people having fun. You must come out next year. Or at least to the Memorial Day Boogie if Perris hosts DZ.com again!

Cobalts love very fast deployments. One of my mentors jumps a Cobalt and always dumps it in full track for the best openings. When she slows down, she gets spanked. So, if you want to dump in a full track like when the bag hits your feet, the Cobalt might be for you. Demo one. I'm a Spectre guy. Now and forever. (Yeah, never say forever)

The only thing I've noticed that is lacking on the DigiRebel is the low-light focus aquisition. My boss uses the rebel and I just kick his ass on sunset swooping flash photos. Maybe it's cause he's not using the 550EX. Folks, if you are buying a flash to take cool evening photos, get the 550 EX. It is a quantum leap better than anything else in the line. Ask Iwan, he used mine and he's convinced with his DigiRebel.

Being set to announce and announcing at two different things. I'll believe it when it moves from rumor to reality. He better do something. That immigration idea went over like a lead balloon. A goal a little better than cheap day labor might be nice for the American ingenuity capability.

What's spooky, is that with all the really smart folks on this site, and with the advantage of thinking like humans (well, skydiver humans anyhow), nobody has cracked it yet. I'm just all exited about gettin me some 5051 aluminum Legos...
-
Yeah, baby! That avatar makes me randy!

Maybe that's why our lander worked. The intersolar power of Lego's!

Bah! Here's one with your Shar-pei!

I'm still down for the cause, monkeybrother

Me, Tallguy, and Aviatrr had a serious face-to-face with Brian Burke that left no doubt whatsoever as to his expectations of us, or of our interaction with aircraft, jumpers, jumprun, where we were expected to deploy, and at what altitude. I ended up scratching from that load because of a time issue, but the one four-way flock I had was safe, challenging, and fun.

Wow. Serious response, to a very silly picture. Cheer up, little buckaroo!

I was not always a coldhearted conservative I happened upon this 23+ year old photo and had to laugh. I was working on Carter's reelection campaign at the time and picked this character for a kind of "method" debate. I memorized a speech and everything. The man ended up putting me down. That sucked. So I became the man

I did not cull these pictures nearly as hard as I usually do, cause I'm sure lots of folks want to see as much digital mayhem as possible. I did not want to cheat anybody out of a crappy picture of themself . Most all of the freefall stuff was shot with my 10D on shutter priority with 550EX flash at 1/200th of a second. The lens is mostly a Sigma 14 aspherical. I got a ton of video editing to do now...

Oh, God. The only legitimate reason to BASE jump that I have ever even considered. I'm glad I got on so many of your farewell jumps. Heck, we even almost got to share an epic videotaped bar fight! Hey, all, check this out. Derek, farewell, you were badass. JP
