would have gotten more responses in the Bonfire, However unless something has changed the only time you will be 'restricted' from skydiving in any military service is while in a formal training course (or Deployed ofc) ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

Proof for the Existence of UFOs? They exist with a certainty that only a fool would deny. ET is something else entirely. Why people continue to equate the two, I'll never understand. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

what are the chances a DZ is going to give a student 'good ear plugs'? no way no how.. the standard yellow squishy will be used.. which does a lovely job of blocking either nearly all sound or no sound at all depending on how well it is inserted. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

Well that would be the ideal solution, and sometimes alcoholics do learn to drink in moderation. But many alcoholics drink themselves to death trying to learn to have "discipline." by the strict definitions those people are NOT alcoholics.. I'm one for example.. while i've had moment of completely besotted behavior (for weeks/months at a time in the past) I've always been able to stop when 'woken up' (by myself or another who cared) simply by recognizing that what I was doing (while fun for a while) wasnt productive... I believe that freedom from addiction is generally the goal. And for someone who has a serious addiction, that's a pretty big achievement. a 'real addict' is never free from addiction. They are simply aware they are unable to control their behavior under the influence and so have learned to abstain.. the addiction remains however... 12 Step programs are merely structures systems.. those who cannot help themselves NEED structured systems.. They ARE very much like religion because they provide the same kind of support, structure and reassurance of value to those who are not capable of taking personal charge of their lives (either through addiction or religion) In the end if it WORKS FOR THEM, they improve their lot and life (and they don't become 'born again' and go on a crusade to save everyone else from themselves).. does it really matter what 'system' they used? i'm not sure i would personally qualify alcoholism as a disease. I'd suggest the "disease" is social one, a lack of self respect and self discipline 'implanted' at an early age... some traits are significantly more difficult to learn once you have ingrained behavior to the opposite. ie it is very hard to train someone in personal discipline at 40 when they have never had it before... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

Good day to you Zen. Thank you...hope yours is lovely as well.. i highlighted the 'sadly' part because it is sad (IMO) that youve gone from expressing your own understanding and beliefs to aping that of an apologist website. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

and that is a FINE answer for anyone.. right up until the point you try to tell anyone else they are going to hell/damned/are immoral etc for following what "works for them" ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

and we have a winner... the mind seeks to classify experience into patterns it recognizes... if you were raised with Allah, that which fits your 'preconception of divinity' will be called the name you know.. ala Allah. If you are Christian and experience something that doesnt fit into 'generally accepted reality' it becomes a vision of Christ/Visitation by Angels/Mary etc.... If you indoctrinated someone early enough in the teaching of Yoda they would call such phenomena " the Force..." Doesn't make any of them correct. notice that there are no accounts of anyone ever suddenly converting to a religion they'd never heard of before. EVERYONE is persuaded by human exposure and experience at some point ala "my Grandmother was a Xtain and she was such a personal inspiration to me' etc.. would be an interesting experiment to raise someone with NO exposure to religion or religious teaching of any kind and see how they described such experiences.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

oh i completely agree... its just more a comment on the relative impact of paintings.. people often see an O'Keeffe in a book or on a print next to a Dali for example.. they both seem to have equal 'weight' or impact but in person the difference is staggering.. a lot of Dali's 'minor work' got blown way out of proportion (in part due to his own very effective publicity machine) ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

I would like to tell you a bit more about God

I'd guess most religious people are willing to express their doubts, in a non-threatening environment. This forum doesn't qualify. if the belief and doubts you may harbor cannot stand harsh scrutiny and criticism by those who do not share them.. then what value do they (the belief or the doubt) really carry?? ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -

As Billvon pointed out in another thread, there is a great difference in the message of the Old Testament vs. the message of the New Testament. Perhaps YOU may wish to do a bit of further reading... so are you trying to argue it is actually was "a different God" then and now?? if not, then how does that disprove the point that the Christian God is quite guilty of a number of atrocities and outright cruelty as recounted in his 'word'. Ordering Genocide with the Jaw bone of an Ass sound familiar to anyone ? "Oh that was last year/decade/century. I'm different now" doesnt exactly fly as an excuse or remove the responsibility. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -
He went from posting his own thought to a simple C&P of the thought of others... sadly that quickly put him in the same realm as hairyjaun (or whatever he's posting as now) and so isnt worth taking the time to read, much less engage in discussion and debate. if i wanted to read circular arguments quoted from an apologist website I'd be there instead of here... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

Some people expected to be there for a long time, which was one reason why they didn't support it. The Whitehouse didn't think we'd be there for very long at all. Ding Ding!! ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

Ive heard a couple of Aussie friend say it to on Ventrillo while gaming.. ofc we are all usually very hammerd, but it seems a common enough phrase for 'OK' in most contexts. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

You ain't a real gearhead until you've fallen asleep under a car you're working on. or pretending to be working on... snoozing under the 5tons while 'pretending' they were still doing PMCS is one of the oldest 'slack ass' tricks in the Army... had 1 PFC that was bright... attached his sleeves to a nut on the underside so it looked like he was busy... would have worked if he hadnt started snoring.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

Why would anyone in their right mind invest that much time and energy in a prank just to screw with someone? I think that it says more about you than it does the other guy. if it is worth doing, it is worth doing well... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

yup.. it is you getting old and not adapting to modern comms methods... keypads? no problem.. practice and you can text nearly as fast as you type. ofc knowing the shorthand helps. when you get old your habits get 'fixed' and learning a new skill seems like a chore... solution: Dont Get Old.

quite often... work, play, social life... boredom is my worst enemy, as it brings out the worst in me to remove it at times.. I've quit a couple of jobs because they couldn't keep me 'entertained' even when the pay was good... this one is starting to get that way as well, but my boss has learned the warning signs and keeps me busy on interesting projects... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
