WTFO?? speechless. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

problem seems to be getting the material in large enough rolls.. unless they do military manufacturing already you are going to have to buy ALOT more material than a single rig requires.. One of my early coaches had a 'cookie dough' camo rig I just loved... but unless your in the right place right time or willing to buy the whole roll of material its not just an 'order and wait' process.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

UFC is just as 'artifical' as Boxing, just with a different rule set. Neither would do well outside of their structured enviroment where lethal, life changing attacks are prohibited by the rules. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

which is exactly the point i make in every spelling and grammar rant that appears... humans are not machines, those who quibble over 'parsing' miss the point entirely and allow their prejudice to interfere with the communication process. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

look into the actual math sometime, a subscription to most MMORGs cost less per year than many skydivers spend in a day... for HOURS more entertainment. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

no actually you are not. We get it. You dont like video games. Dont Play them. But Viking did specifically ask for the opinion of those you play... If you'd like to discuss why video games are 'evil' please make your own thread. its rather odd to be lectured on what 'life' is about and how computers are evil life consuming endevours on an internet forum isnt it? if you like 'outside' so much go out now, or at least stop posting about it in this thread. to much to ask? ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

Update from B Burke re: SDAZ landing policy
Zenister replied to billvon's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Based on your last statement, I can only assume you have never been at SDA other than specific times of the year.. I'm sure you know what assumptions are worth. You still havent addressed the question. How many swoops were made by the 'pros' at Eloy EVERY DAY until this policy was in place? How many are made now? How many 'Pros' (Both Fully Professional and Semi Professional swoopers) have worked there over the last several years? Pretty much every one of them swooped (more than 180) EVERY SKYDIVE. That is now not allowed... so tell me why someone who's focus is canopy piloting and HPL would want to jump/work at Eloy, when by policy they can no longer practice what (for them) was their 'normal landing' and for many the entire point they skydive?? I've heard more than one say "If I could afford it, I would just do H&Ps all day." How many people come to Eloy SPECIFICALLY for Canopy instruction (including swooping) from those resident Pro's? Why would anyone who's focus is canopy control and HPL even consider Eloy as a destination with this policy in place? While we are on the subject of what the Top Tier does regularly, it is a very good thing Eloy has a tunnel, without it you'd likely start losing Freefly Coaches as well. How many of the Top Tier of Freefliers DO NOT SWOOP as a matter of course?? Why go to Eloy to train now when there are other equally professional dropzones without such restrictions? All of these points of contention DO exist, no matter how you try to gloss over them up as non issues. I know very well what the problem is, there is no disagreement on that point. You however are doing a fabulous job of ignoring the problems with the current 'solution'. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -
that isnt quite true.. it just seems that way early on in Eve while your toon trains up the basic combat skills for their ship class.Once you are "qualified" (or later on reach 'parity' so that you are as good as you can be in that hull) it does come down to how well you planned and fit before you undock, as well as how/when you decide to attack. One of the key components is knowing when NOT to engage because you are clearly 'out classed', and alot of combat is joining up with others to find a target that your gang actually has a chance of killing. Eve is very much a Player vs Player game.. you can play it to minimize the direct conflict, but even in the market/industrial arena you are still vying with other player and undercutting prices, buying out resources etc... in fact the only thing Eve actually 'simulates' is market forces of supply and demand. the separation between player skill and character skill is the driving force behind MMORGS really.. you arent 'you' you are your 'character' and can only do what your character knows how to do.. I got started playing Eve when i was laid up after femuring myself, and it is still and entertaining time waster years later... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

I agree, but it will take a VERY savvy game design to make the smaller scale fights possible and still give you a reason to fight beyond 'bragging rights'. One of the things about Eve is you have to buy or produce everything you use.. so losing a fight is actually losing material and time to recreate your ship. (You dont lose your core skills so you retain your basic 'game time investment'.) Which means people band together to protect their investments in time and material, from those who want to take them away. So while small skirmishes always happen on the outskirts, the real conflicts are between thousands of players on each side for control over an area or resource. that drives LOTS of people away from Eve.. those who want easy rewards without risk of loss. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

true.. but Eve is already working up to 500 on 500 fleet battles with all the lag, client lock ups and cluster crashes that go along with it... honestly i cant wait for technology to catch up. I played Warbirds for ages but even that got hammered during major events and turned into a slideshow... and a few seconds DO matter in the middle of a furball.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

Indeed the cost/per hour for most MMORG is really low if you play at all.. and pay to play is the only way to go in modern gaming, as with any other game the developers are already working on the next project before the box hits the shelves... sure you'll get 2-3 patches but after that there is no incentive to support.. with MMORG/pay to play the developers/publishers pretty much have to continually support bug fixes as well as add content or they lose their player base to another game. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

well its more complex than a single client to server.. every client in the same environment has to interact with every other one.. that is ALOT of transactions per second, and when you add global networks... from a discussion on the topic relating to Eve and why it cant do what FPS do... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
-
problem there is the sheer number of network transactions that would be required.. Direct Control doesnt work (yet) on that scale. Even military simulations with dedicated bandwidth cant handle the number of check and updates that need to be made to every client for it to work. Its the reason Ping is the be all end all of Flight Sim and FPS. Most decent 'real time' games top out at about 50 to 80 players... after that snyc issues make direct controls unmanageable. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

hmm you missed alot... there isnt much you can really accomplish in Eve solo... It is VERY much a teamwork, large scale coordination game. Sure you can toy around in 'safe space' but that is about 10% of the game... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

WoW blows.. more kids per capita than any game out there which means LOTS more really really really childish crap to put up with, and absolutely endless repetition of the same tasks... I'll try LOTR when it 'matures' a bit.. Eve has evolved alot.. you can turn off all the voices.. but in fact sound lags.. most serious players have it off completely. Eve is what you make of it... its open ended (no levels in the terms most MMORGS use) no 'grind' to gain skills, you train while you sleep, its all 'time' based. Basically the only thing you 'grind' for is money.. just like RL. But its not easy, the learning curve is steeper than any game i've ever seen. Honestly some of the time and resource management skills that are required are going to put its younger players WAAAAAY ahead in RL not many games can say that. It also has an older average age than any MMORG out there, but has been diluted alot recently by its success. Eve has a free 2 week trial as well, but be aware you wont scratch .01% of the game (or gameplay) in that time. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

Jene i'm disappointed.. you've been around long enough to recall the "Metal Men" from Dr. Who.... Weren't they "Cybermen"? you are correct sir.. my error.. there was a recent Dr. Who (new series) that 'brought them back' and explained their creation. Essentially an 'upgrade' from the 'headset devices' people wore to be continually connected to the public broadcasts..... an intentional parrallel to people who keep their earpieces in all the time now i'm sure http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/news/cult/news/drwho/2005/11/10/26933.shtml ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

Update from B Burke re: SDAZ landing policy
Zenister replied to billvon's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Do you consider making arrangements at manifest a hoop? how many swoops a day do you think the pro's at Eloy were averaging before this policy? how many are they averaging now? Why would someone who's focus is canopy piloting and swooping stay at a place that significantly lowered the amount of practice time they have available by general policy? just doesnt make sense if you want to remain competitive... sure, its a small portion of the market, but it means in time you will have fewer of the "top tier" of canopy pilots (at least in relation to swooping) in residence. Which also means Eloy will no longer be a 'destination' for those who want to learn from the 'top tier'. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -
I'm wondering how this is measured.. Eloy for example has more 'working space' due to rounded chamber walls... I'd tend to think tunnels with flat chamber walls have less actual 'usable' area, even if it were otherwise the "same size" ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

Zenister replied to freeflybella's topic in Speakers Corner
i like "....playing politics with the troops lives over the recommendations of the military leaders" oh really? you mean like the military leaders you derided, publicly disrespected, and completely ignored when they told you the total troop strength required to accomplish the mission you'd proposed??? I suppose sending in Troops with less than a 1/3rd of the force required (because "telling the truth" about what would be necessary would have resulted in a lost election) wasn't playing politics either.... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -
his business, he can do what he wants, but i'll be very surprised if he can actually keep it running without outside support... the majority of people who go in to get a tattoo dont have any desire to have anyone else's religion pushed on them while under the needle. Nor do they want to be restricted by the artists personal feelings about a design THEY will wear the rest of their lives.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

honestly i dont know.. could be theyve 'upgraded'.. it wasnt intended as a slam vs the Vegas tunnel at all.. i just did not think it was capable of 'true head down' speeds ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
