Yep. We know that now. But the issue is a "reaction." How do people react in those situations? How can your average person expect to react in a situation like that? By doing nothing except hiding. The military knows this. It turns out that most human beings don't like being in battle, killing, putting themselves in danger, etc. So the military makes great efforts training people to do this who are otherwise averse to putting themselves at risk and neutralizing threats. training is the answer... training conducted early and often with the recognition that it WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE or the life of another, if/when you need it... I'll wager in the 'kindler, gentler' nation we've become NONE of those students had ever even thought about "what if", much less actually trained for being attacked...... Truly responsible parents would have given them that training early on...Basic Survival skills are fundamental and should be taught from the moment you can talk/reason.. but I'll also easily wager that few of their parents got that training and attention early on either, and so ofc didnt give the same training to their kids.. so the cycle continues... Western society is doing a lovely job of creating 'sheep'... sheep who simply duck their head and wait for the hammer to fall, instead of standing up and fighting (perhaps dying) on their feet... if ONE person had taken the initiative and attacked, the rest would have followed... being the sheep that they are... and if ONE classroom had done so there would be ALOT less dead.... As a rule of thumb I have found that most people who have been brought up religious their whole life pretty much keep it to themselves and only bring it up when it is relevant to the matter at hand. It's the ones that have lived bad lives and "find god" that never seem to stop preaching. I'm not sure you can compare 'efficiency' on your average tracking dive.. very rarely is the dive maxing out (at the end on occasion) and so body shape/weight has more to do with your 'position' in the dive (i've often had to use VERY inefficient tracks to get where i wanted to be as my height/weight gives me a natural advantage) than how efficient your actual body position is.... anecdotal evidence isnt of much value here.. there really does need to be some controlled experiments done before such general statements can be supported... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

more emphasis on canopy control and flight patterns IN THE LICENSING PROCESS.. dont make additional licenses, dont require more courses or coaching. Integrate it into the FIRST lessons you learn about skydiving.If AFF is about teaching you 'how not to die' before you learn how to 'actually skydive recreationally' then Canopy Control, Landing patterns and procedures need to be addressed right then at the beginning of the process... learning how to fit "your landing" into the currently existing pattern is the problem.. i've yet to see any formal instruction on it, i've seen people talk about land marks etc.. but those are inflexable systems that dont/wont account for every circumstance.. you have to teach the PRINCIPLES.. not a set of 'follow the numbers' steps... some basic skills pattern analysis would be helpful too... most accidents can be seen coming miles away if you are looking for them... teaching people how to analyze flight patterns early on will help them look for and avoid potential conflicts BEFORE they occur... banning any degree of turn is just short sighted and stupid.. it is putting a bandaid over an immediate problem without addressing or attempting to solve the core issues. It is the skydiving equivalent of the old Dr joke... "Dr? It hurts when i move my arm." Whats your definition of hardcore???? Want to go fast, then get on your back, legs together, arms in palms down, hips up and head back. I reckon for speed you can go a lot faster on your back then on your belly. tracking should be for distance, not speed... speed tend to imply a diving track.. which doesnt give you as much seperation at all... ofc if you are comming out of a head down dive the speed you retain helps give you distance.. one reason i believe alot of free fliers are 'lazier' than RW types when it comes to the most effiecient track shape... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

only the smart ones do... that said i dont believe leg position is as critical as upper body shape.. legs out is legs out you are going to get alot of drive from there already.. i think some serious experiments would have to be done to prove that a 6 inch gap was better than no gap or a 12 inch gap etc....wider tends to help with stability, which is good early on as if you tumble off your track or swerve while tracking you dont cover as much ground... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

I'm pretty far from the DZ, but you arent a friend if you cant crash at my place whenever needed.. in fact its one of the tests of true friendship for me.. a true friend can show up on your doorstep unannounced, unseen or heard from in 5 years and still have a place to sleep/eat without issue and vis versa.. if that statement isnt true then you know you are not really my friend.. the word 'acquaintance' is more applicable. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
