Am I the only one who finds Dane Cook to beee.........well, CRAP?!
Zenister replied to Douva's topic in The Bonfire
Perhaps Gnarls Barkley should be added to the list of performers/albums prohibited by the "Overused Tandem Music Act of 1999," along with Tom Petty and the Top Gun soundtrack. that i can certainly agree with.. i knew the first moment i heard it it was going to be in WAAAAAY to many tandem videos.. but i still have to laugh at those who refer to them as 'he' and are condemning the entire album/group based on the only single they've heard... and btw. 'Crazy' isnt a cover either.... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -
How far from your hometown do you currently live?
Zenister replied to seejanefall's topic in The Bonfire
why would do you necessarily consider 'place of birth' to be your 'home town'? i certainly dont.. honestly i feel sorry for those who's horizons are so limited... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -

sorry but i'll take the kind of discipline i received as a child over the 'hands off' approach everytime.. you seem to mistake pain used as a learning tool /punishment with 'striking in anger' punishment is NEVER given in an angry state, in fact the 'waiting' is far harsher punishment than the pain itself. The transition from 'fear of pain' to 'fear of displeasure' is a gradual one but very effective.. my mother can still make me feel worse with a simple look than she could have with a baseball bat (and no dont assume anything, i'm simply stating i'd much rather have my ass kicked with a ballbat than disappoint my mother) Laws that remove tools from parents simply because ignorant fools abuse them are fundamentally flawed. No one should interfere with how a parent disciplines a child (when those methods cause no real harm.) if you wish to raise your children without any form of true discipline please do so. When you attempt to enforce your mores on another we have a problem. such modern coddling like child leashes, helmets and other 'protective' measures are continually creating a generation who have no real personal discipline, fortitude or determination to endure when placed under long term stress (or even minor physical discomfort.) Thousands of years of martial arts and military training bears out that using pain and discomfort as a training tool works VERY well. only if/when spanking crosses the line (and there is a clear line between uncomfortable pain and actual physical harm) should the LAW ever be involved. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -
you might want to look at the number of posts started by Christians... they bring it on themselves.. particularly when they cry 'persecution' to get attention.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

agreed. i begrudge NO ONE practice of their religion.. just dont annoy me with your silly beliefs and i wont annoy you with mine. That is a basic respect that the "converting' religions cannot abide.. now where is my frisbee?? ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

Longer sight would say.... disagree completely.. the only way a Libertarian will EVER be elected is after one has proven them selfes (and proven the party's principles) at a LOCAL level. Real change rarely occurs from the top it starts at the bottom of the political process.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

Thinking like that certainly helps a lot. i chose to have my opinion count NOW in National Elections, in local elections i help the Libertarians make small gains that may eventually allow one to be elected. but the fact remains if you do not vote for one of the major players in any National election your vote has NO EFFECT on who runs the country for the next 4 years... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

despite my personal leanings i wont vote libertarian (in national elections, i always do i local) until they have a reasonable chance of winning.. it is unfortunate, but if you do not vote for one of the major players you are effectively giving up your say in who will lead the country for the next 4 years... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

I'd say psychics like that are generally completely bogus.. those with such abilities would have no need to brag or publicize them, but i will relate one incident that happened to me personally, as i have a friend who makes her living as a 'psychic adviser' for those who seek her out (she will openly admit that 80% of her job is simply listening well) while i was in the Army I had a VERY bad week (3 friends had died) and was dangerously close to gross insubordination because of my mental state.. i hadnt talked to ANYONE outside of my immediate military circle, but left immediately after work and drove 'home' (4 hours away) without calling anyone or even changing out uniform. when i got to their house the door was open, the porch light was on and there was a slightly chilly beer sitting in 'my' chair. She'd bought the six pack of beck's that afternoon (her husband doesnt drink it really) without thinking about it, and set one out when she came back from the kitchen... as i walked up the steps she opened the door, gave me a hug and said "i had a feeling you'd be here tonight" ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

questions about adrenaline

even if it were so.. do the math... the anti smoking lobby once put out that every cigarette took 7 minutes off your life.. then some marketing genius actually "did the math" and suddenly that sad attempt at 'this is BAAAD M'kay' vanished... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -
did while i was in college (and absolutely nutty about all things edged) but tbh it takes far to much time (more time than i have generally for toiletries) but i did enjoy having an 'old school' barber while i was stationed in FL, who used one as a matter of course. in fact my entire detachment was regulars there after the 1SGT continually praised my hair cuts.. plus it was one of the more relaxing parts of the week for me.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

Right. As a natural consequence, yes. Not as a parental disciplinary tool. Hunger is an effective motivator, too, but you wouldn't starve your child to get him to get better grades. It's not an either/or. Find another way to discipline your kid. nope not going to happen, if/when i have a child it will be disciplined in exactly the same manner i was, hopefully to the same effect. i'm guessing you were never sent to bed without supper for disobedience either.... doesnt take many missed meals to learn to behave at the dinner table.. what you seem to lack is an understanding of how to connect cause and effect.. While Pain is the initial (de)motivator, as the child learns to rationalize it is transitioned into the desire not to displease the parent/authority figure, however you cannot reason with a toddler. In time being spanked becomes a MUCH more preferable option than having to face "the look" (for the child) i question how much actual personal discipline children raised by your 'kinder gentler' methods actually have.. ofc that DOES explain some of the 'whining bitches' (no better term for it, sorry) ive seen as military recruits in recent years as well.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -
i think you over estimate the amount of actual support he has in the military. Foreign wars are a FAR cry from enforcing Martial Law on US soil.. in fact every Military Members oath puts the CONSTITUTION first, there would be internal warfare inside the military structure before such an illegal order was ever followed. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

another reason i believe that "Conquering the Enemy Within" is better for the target audience.. with the exception of a few dedicated types how many of your expected readers have already delved deeply into such Taoist thoughts and concepts? by way of example if i were to say "the moon; the cold stream, a mirror" who would 'get it' right away? at least enough to want to pick up and perhaps purchase the book? Simple statements are profound once understood, but generally take YEARS of contemplation and practice to truly grasp and implement as part of a mental training program. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

By that same reasoning Usay Hussein was not responsible for his actions. His enviornment and genetics made hima brutal man. and of course they did.. it would be ignorant folly to expect him to act in a manner that was TOTALLY at odds with his environment or his genetics.. but WE as humans are only capable of judging a Man by the decisions he makes and the elements that ARE under his control, and so met punishment or reward based on those merits, and more importantly the SOCIAL acceptance or denial of such actions. Divinity has no such limitations. Responsible? yes. Ultimately responsible? For elements of himself he had no control, influence, or even awareness of? No. He was exactly as his genetics and environment made him, and those attributes are not the purview of humanity to decide (at least not yet) ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

sure it is.. Pain is and will always be an EXTREMELY effective learning/teaching tool.. until they learn to rationalize, spanking is a very significant deterrent to unwanted behavior.. would you rather spank your child (doing no harm really) when he reached into a fire/stove/oven etc.... or have him scarred for life just so he learned fire was hot? even as an adult Pain accelerates the learning process.. new sabre fencers who 'showed me their wristes' got a very painful cut to them.. sure i could have tapped them lightly, or stopped and reminded of the poor technique, but the didnt repeat the same mistake anywhere near as often when the repercussions for failure was a painful reminder and not simple a lost point.. in life and death environments/circumstances pain in training is a small price when compared to death.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -
assuming he runs Rudolf Giuliani would certainly meet any 'leadership' requirements despite 'only' being a mayor... Due to its size and complexity the Mayor of NY certainly has as much (or more) responsibility, negotiation and leadership opportunities as ANY State official.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

despite the inherent biological process YOU did not create your children, you simply trained them, and yes (by way of example) my father is DIRECTLY responsible for the way i drive... (if you teach a 16 year old J Turns and Bootlegs and help him disable the emergency brake lock to be able to perform them safely, can you really blame the teenager for using that knowledge?) if you believe in the Creator as O3, the Prime Mover etc.. he is Responsible for Everything... or he is not who he claims to be.... or are you going to tell me God is NOT the driving force behind all existence.. i am a product of my genetics and my environment.. those two (general) forces shape who i am and how i think.. i can make distinctions in individual actions and circumstances but I am INCAPABLE of acting against those 2 forces... every decision i make is based on them and their effects on my development.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
