Everyone gets to use the golf courses, officers and enlisted men alike. And cheap recreation is one of the benefits they get in exchange for their piss-poor pay for serving their country. I don't begrudge them their golf courses one little bit. After being in harm's way to help keep you safe, they deserve to have someplace to relax. care to make a wager on % of participation by Officers vs Enlisted? Ive been to more than a few exercises that were front loaded by useless strap hanging brass who's sole REAL reason for being there was to play the local course and collect TDY money.. infact i've been chewed out more than once for 'modifying' my briefings to see who cared and was actually paying attention vs who were simply there for the 'beni's' so while your point is valid it doesnt come close to the reality. one of the best Sabre fencers in the South East (at the time, she only fenced in "open" and "three weapon" tournaments what are not around any longer) was a women... ofc she was also a Soccer Goalie who kept notches on her goalposts for every broken bone incident she was involved in, so pain wasnt something that frightened her.. Sabre is/was/can be a very brutal discipline, particularly before the electric scoring system appeared as light touches to the arm (a very common attack in RL and in modern sabre) were not easily spotted by the line judges and so led to harder more deliberate hits that were easier to judge to ensure the point was given in the exchange (stamina is a HUGE factor in sabre, so a successful attack that the judges miss call/dont see can REALLY change the result of a bout) one example.. during a mixed(male and female in the pools together) tournament after a corp a corp (locked guards leading to a point her way when they disengaged) i saw her head snap around as they broke apart and her body language was clearly seething... at the next engagement she double advanced-fleche'd right off the line as he advanced (no longer allowed in Sabre WTF ) and delayed her head cut so the bell of her weapon pretty much punched him in the face (mask) and knocked him flat on his ass.. it LOOKED like an accident (she got a warning anyway, but we all laughed) I was on another piste at the time so missed most of the previous exchanged but caught enough to see him hit the floor.. between rounds i asked her what happened... "what happened? fucker grabbed my ass as i walked off from the last point.
