Update from B Burke re: SDAZ landing policy
Zenister replied to billvon's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
the exodus has been going on for about 3 years...there are ALOT of people who are no longer locals for a variety of reasons.. mostly to do with management decisions like this. Why deal with it when you are in 'high demand' elsewhere? As much as I (used to) love the place, it is far from the only large professional dropzone in the world... what do you think all the currently competitive swoopers are going to do when they get their ass handed to them by those at other dropzones who CAN practice their discipline daily without jumping thru excessive hoops? ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -
those sorts of jumps aren't about the altitude it is the ride up, the exit and the visuals as you leave...(at least imo) as for the cost? well there is always more money... but somethings you wont get more than one chance to experience (unless you are very very lucky) ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

i'd skip the night jump... 30k in day time is on the list... Balloon -check.. in fact its one of my favorite dives, but I dont tend to do them unless there is a group of us. Jet at normal altitude i care nothing about.. seems a waste of time and money (runway upgrades ) to me.. the B-17 is DEFINITELY on the list simply because of the uniqueness of the experience, even in a skydive context... same thing with a "Pitts" jump.. (which i've missed scheduled jumps twice due to last min plane issues and weather...) for me those last two are not "just" 'jumping out of an airplane' ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

is that even remotely possible in the Vegas tunnel? (apart from a 'steep carve' actual HD?) ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

and sleep in a bra, get up while dragging the sheet with them to cover up, even though they just fucked the guy they were in bed with. etc... etc.... i know those are censorship things but they really annoy me... does anyone on the modern era REALLY regularly have sex in bed while wearing only 'tops'??? ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

when you see a 'head on shot' of an unloaded revolver.. that is firing the next second.... come on guys... i know mistakes made while shooting a scene like that killed Brandon Lee, but its NOT THAT HARD.... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

fixed it :D I HATE repeating myself.. at somepoint i just give up on some people as 'untrainable' or at least 'untrainable without one of us killing the other' ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

Yup! Nice! I last saw Sabbath on the Dehumanizer Tour (also with Dio)... got to spend a half hour talking to Tony Iommi (climbed up to some 'empty balcony seats' and ended up sitting with Dio's wife who invited me back stage) and was walking on air for the rest of the year.... edit: http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/ae/articles/0422sabbath0422.html a great writeup of the current tour and why they arent calling it "Sabbath" this time around... unfortunately i'm on the road and missed the AZ show... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

leave the silly dogma out of the discussion please.. Divinity cannot die.. God did not die... Even working inside "your" Religions conventions, Death and Pain are meaningless to anyone who (by definition) completely controls the system. but that is an aside.. Either Divinity is Omnipotent, Omnipresent and Omniscient or isnt.. if She (just because it annoys many) IS...then nothing you do is really 'your choice', your choices were made for you, and you have the ILLUSION of free will... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

NO ONE devotes 100% attention to driving past the age of 16 or so... even then many do not... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

Talking while driving isnt difficult.. its a matter of sorting your attention priorities. Most people dont have their priorities on DRIVING anyway, so whatever else they are actually focusing on makes them less away aware and responsive already... very few people drive in the optimal 10/2 position after drivers ed anyway so that 'extra hand' isnt being used to control the car in any event... yes.. i've seen the studies on response time.. i'm not convinced, the test criteria i saw were rather sketchy. Ive actually avoided accidents while talking on the phone and even informed the person i was talking to... "hang on a sec this could be ugly" it is simply a matter of focusing on the most important task at hand... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

i'd have to say i prefer caravans... simply because they send them with fewer jumpers.. which means you can get more loads on low participation days :D ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

5th Element is typically classified as Sci-Fi by most people, so it excludes her from fantasy film category. 5th Element should never be classified as Sci-fi. Fantasy IS the correct category. Sci-fi takes a scientific concept and expands on it, usually to a horrific yet logical conclusion. Hence the name Sci-fi (SCIENCE fiction). Fantasy makes no such commitment to being based in any reality. 2001, I Robot and Star Trek = Sci-fi Science Fiction Star Wars, 5th Element and Dune = Fantasy Sci-Fi to be fair Trek is Sci-Fi too... Now that we have that established . . . Princess Leia in that slave costume . . . yeah . . . that was the best Carrie Fisher EVER looked. Next up . . . Callisto from Xena. you are confusing 'sci-fi' (rhymes with iffy and means it has little 'science' in it) with Science Fiction... and yes I am paraphrasing Harlen Ellison.. If anyone is qualified to more accurately define the TWO genres (Sci-Fi and Science Fiction) it is him.... but the list is flawed anyway... Chewbacca is on it which is clearly Sci-Fi, not Fantasy... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

no one is claiming that you as 'the father' are O3... and that is the fundamental difference.. you cant have it both ways.. either you are the Prime Mover, fully aware, and fundamentally responsible for all actions, all existence, or you are not. No designer can blame his creation for acting EXACTLY HOW DESIGNED. If you wanted it to 'be good' you should have made it that way, its not like you didnt know what it would do once you 'threw the switch'. Therefore YOU (as designer, creator, and 'power source') ARE ultimately responsible for what your creation does. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

still wondering how the Prince being deployed is going to play out... pretty much a lose/lose situation. I'll be surprised if he deploys, but if he does the Royal Family will have my respect in a manner the Bush family never could... hiding in a 'champaign' unit during an active conflict, then claiming 'veteran status' deserves no respect at all, then or now.... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

I turned on CNN this morning promptly at 6:00 AM to catch the news headlines before running off to work. What was the lead story? Iraq? Congress? Tornados? Nope. It was "American Idol". I turned it off. this greatly annoys me.. there was a time when i could turn on a morning TV news program(even CNN) while i checked email and had a coffee before heading out to work and be pretty up to date over what had occurred over the last 12 hours or so while i'd been away from the world.... now you are lucky if you get 1 real news story in each half hour of viewing, and if anything are only informed enough to participate in the latest 'water cooler' talk...which i happen to despise. Some co-workers consider me 'anti-social' but tbh I dont watch crap like "American Idol, Dancing with the Stars" etc at night for a reason.. why do i want to hear you talk about it during the day?? ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

I see lots of white stars (as i work primarily at/around military installations) but i have yet to see a gold... could be coincidence, could be family choice, or maybe they aren't 'giving them out' no idea.. ive been to two military funerals since OIF started and it wasnt mentioned at either... but then 'bragging rights' was never high on either families lists of priorities so... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

I totally agree with that. I don't think it should matter whether there's an open container in the car....only if the driver is over the legal limit. If ya' want to have a beer on the way home from work, it shouldn't be against the law, imho, unless your BAC is over the legal limit in your state. But, unfortunately, it is. Having an open container in the car is a separate issue from drunk driving, at least in AR. indeed since in many states the way the 'open container' law is written it is also applied to empty containers... even in the back bed of your trunk... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

Relative to others doesn't stop at 3 ft. There is way more to flying with others. very true the tunnel doesnt help (much) with learning to stop a high speed dive to base for example... but it IS wonderful for 'focused technique' training. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

nope your free to dip all you like as the 'oath' you took was to "quit smoking" granted, substitution isnt in the 'spirit' of the bet, but strict wording is important in bets, wishes and contracts. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
