MUCH worse.. because your time 'under stress' is doubled even in a 2 min rotation.. I know several very fit people who were completely smoked after a three 2min rotations (not having ever skydived before they were using muscles in ways they never had before.) the most ive done was 30m broken up into 2 min rotations.. I was alternating between belly, back and sit for each rotation (with rest between as other the others rotated through) and i was still completely beat the next day... adrenalin and the short exposure time in a single skydive make people underestimate the physical effort involved ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

Saluting Flag While Not in Uniform to Be Authorized (StratPage)
Zenister replied to a topic in Speakers Corner
how fucking silly can these idiots get... A civilian (aka retired/former service member) can render respect (or fail to) in any manner they choose. We sure as hell didnt need to waste tax money or legislative time to make a 'law' stating so... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -

No I do not. I was however pointing something I think you already knew. And that is the congress does have a tool to stop the war. And that is cut off the funds. The other point I was making is they will not do that. They wont do it because its the wrong approach.... a country should never be forced to 'starve' its military simply because the elected leadership is to stubborn to bow to the will of the people. its not like Bush would pull them anyway.. he'd simply ask them to do 'more with less' the way politicians always do... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

competition for both non-swoopers and swoopers?
Zenister replied to mikker's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Now that's somethin I'd like to see....... I think i've got one instance on vid (will have to digitize it when i'm home)... but the accuracy guy won anyway as the swooper couldnt slam the beer and flare well at the same time ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -
There is a cost for everything.

barter doenst buy jump tickets or pay rent. if you want to give your time, labor and knowledge away for free that is entirely up to you. I'd rather someone get annoyed and learn to do 'simple tasks' themselves than come annoy me every time they need something 'trivial' repaired 'for free'. Should the DZ give away jumps? I hear all kinds of arguments on here defending the DZO's right to 'run their business they way they want' why shouldnt that apply to the other commercial aspects? tbh i despise the 'business first' approach, but that culture is up to the DZO not the jumpers. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -

this works fine... as long as the DZ isnt 'business first'. When that attitude takes over everything has to be 'weighed' and valued or people will quickly find themselves being run over by those who will continue to abuse their 'good nature' ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -

Pay $5 for a fid and roll of line and make all you want. $5 for something that takes about a minute is out of line. Including a closing loop as part of paid service isn't. this is ridiculous.. if 5$ is 'too much' then do it yourself.. if you lack the skill, knowledge or time to do so then 5$ is perfectly reasonable. I do LOTS of "1min repairs" everyday.. believe me the charge is much higher than 5$ "You pay for the expertise that you lack." If you want to look at it accurately that 5$ pays back the training time for the person who does the task for you. Time they were actually not earning while learning the skill set necessary for the task.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -
Atheism isnt a religion by the way... not a religion, but it IS a belief system. No, it isn't. of course it is. Atheist BELIEVE there is no God. Since they cannot prove that assertion (any more than any other belief) it has the same level of veracity. Unprovable assertion = belief ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

competition for both non-swoopers and swoopers?
Zenister replied to mikker's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Hit and Chug works for all landing types.. they just use different techniques.. Accuracy types drop right on the cooler and slam the beer.. Swoopers pluck the beer off the cooler and slam it before touching down.. since the timer starts when your feet hit the ground the swoopers have an advantage (but a harder task to start with and generally fail completely if they 'miss') ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -

Independence in my case. The fact that the one responsible for my fate was me, and not a TM... however i'd already been through military static line training as well as a few training jumps... but i dont think i would have been as impressed or excited if I had done a tandem instead as my first jump i didnt do a tandem until around 300 then i did 2 for a friend getting his ratting.. definitely not impressed then with anything other than how hard it was to steer that beast from the bottom position without help. Which did give me a better perspective on how much work TMs do on every jump. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

not true.. I know jumpers with thousands of jumps who still regularly do solos (unless we badger them to jump with us) there are ALOT of good things to be said for a solo.... the simply freedom to try whatever you wish without having to worry about anyone else is one.... and the ability to relax and enjoy the view without 'ruining' someone else's dive ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

of only interest to gamers but EA is guilty of much the same. illustrating that the Wiki concept runs afoul of human nature and blatant self interest in nearly every arena.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -
Stud hasnt left... it is just MUCH more fun to play than watch, so you dont see many televised games. the way Hold em plays out makes it a better spectator game. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

completely normally? about 3 months (after i was cleared to try so closer to 5 months from accident to 'normal') and I started off to soon tbh. find a method to rebuild your muscle mass WITHOUT putting your full weight on your leg.. I used a hammock that let me use my 'good' leg to assist (sit sideways and do slow extensions) Get a physical therapist to make sure you are using your crutch correctly. Most people do not. You want to train yourself to 'walk normally' so use the crutch as much as possible to help that.. learning to walk 'with a hitch' (ie not using the crutch enough to help support the proper motion) is a good way to keep that hitch forever... also dont push yourself even after you feel 'semi-normal'. set a standard before you will jump again.. for me it was the ability to run 2 miles with minimal discomfort and no pain.. I figured if my leg could take that full body impact, I was fairly sure if i HAD to PLF on that side I could do it without causing further injury... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

old news.. http://www.straightdope.com/classics/a5_190.html we used to have a technique called a 'kitten test' that when a cat could no longer accomplish it wasnt a kitten.. hold the kitten by its feet its body WIDTH from the ground (its not far, but you can use a pillow if your concerned) and let it go... a kitten will 'right' itself in under its body width.. but once it gets old/large enough it cant flip fast enough... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

in NJ, uncurrent, expired, no rig with me and annoyed that my 'local' dropzone has implemented policies that make it impossible to achieve my skydiving goals without lowering what i consider 'acceptable standards'..... so looking for a new job/place to live as my personal goals are important enough that my job is secondary to me... essentially skydiving is on hold until i can find a place that will let me achieve my goals without jumping through unnecessary, excessive hoops just so skydiving can be portrayed as safe enough for 'grandma' good thing there are tunnels and BASE to keep me entertained. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

no DZ in the US.. you can jump a BASE Canopy in a Skydiving container (with Reserve) but i dont believe any BASE rig has ever been TSO and the lack of reserve would be a problem with the FAA.. "one more parachute than you intend to use" or something to that effect.. now maybe a BASE rig with a 'tertiary reserve' (used for intentional cutaways) but I think the TSO bit would still be a problem in the US.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
