Hiya Dan, I think its great for you to post how the canopy at atair are tested, nobody else does that (I think) and are stuff good to know (makes great conversation topics). I like the cobalt and am thinking of buying one when my experience has the adecuate level. I just have one Q: Who sew the canopies? The expert family tailor called Gramma (metaphorically speaking) or FAA riggers (if rigger what rating)? Sounds like flamming? Everything was great until I read that last phrase. Dude its a device, a computer, I never trust one and I hate computers (long story), but what if? Correct me if am wrong, am wild guessing here but aint it possible that when you are climbing out, you can hit your head right at the time you are on the door frame? or another jumper can go low and open his canopy and hit you (fact and has happened)? that bang will defenitely leave you unconcious and you might need those extra seconds the AAD gives you, at least to flare. Once again I say it, the AAD is not something that will stop me from a jump, I trust more of myself than the apparatus but you'll never know. One of the stuff that I learned from the instructor is: "Don't trust your AAD, it can fail, but never jump without one, it can save you". I'll be thinking that hop and pop with the AAD off. Never knew about an AAD, I think it was right before my first jump or in my second jump that I knew what was that thing hanging from the left riser of my friend's rig (FX I think), and that other funny lucking thing that has a red light when you press the button on my rig (Cypress). I'm a new jumper, but am with the people that says that they will not jump without an AAD and RSL, not cause am giving all my trust to the cypress and the instruments, is because of that "what if?". ie. What if I hit my head in a formation and get unconcious? What if am in a uncontrollable spin under my main, release it and can't get a hold of the silver? I know my red and silver stuff but those 2 words (what if) are what bothers me and will not let me jump something without the AAD and RSL. Am a confident with my emergencies procedures? I will not answer that, almost all mistakes that happens is cause of excessive confidence which makes you stop practicing your handle locations and your red and silver pulls and makes you stop reading about canopy emergencies, etc. I practice everything everytime I put on my gear and everytime am in doubt. When am in doubt about something else I go back to the SIM and do some reading. "Life is full of danger, so why be afraid?" drenaline

In case you don't know how to do some of the stuff that Bill said, you can go to the swoop and canopy control forum and do some reading on the "how to flare" thread. "Life is full of danger, so why be afraid?" drenaline

Terminal velocity is the maximum speed you can get in relativity with your position, in belly to earth it can be one speed, in head down it can be another and so in sit. You can't judge terminal veloxity cause only one man can make 170 in his belly to earth, others can do more and others can do leess, its all relatively with his weight, position, the wind and the drag you give, the less drag you have (perfect head down) the faster you can go. Thats my 0.02. If I weren't so drunk I qould off told write the equation and the explanation in number, ask a physic to calculate that for you. Don't worry, if it were people like him, we wouldn't be able to freefall and do some RW. In the beginning people used to say that you couldn't controll yourself while in freefall and that the pressure would be such that you would never be able to pull your rip cord, and now we all know that it was a big lie and that it can be done. Sew another strap to have it more secure and closer to you, that way it wont be slapping. People use the Scuba Diving lead shots weights with theyr belts and vests. Dont use the block weight, you can get seriously hurt with that, and they are very uncomfortable in SD, in land and most prolly in air too. I made a thread about weight belts and vest and one of the input I got was that (can't remember who) bought 2 ankle weights and sew them together and with a velcro he uses it as a belt. DEMO, if you can take advantage of it, do it. You can answer a lot of your Q's by actually jumping one, its better to try it first than buying it and then don't like it. "Life is full of danger, so why be afraid?" drenaline

I think that flat packs gives you a 90° twist on every opening, cause of the way that its packed. "Life is full of danger, so why be afraid?" drenaline

I think its better for you to leave the knifes at home, lately just the word knife can cause panic in a plane. Hey what do you think security will tell you if you put on your gear before you board the plane until you get out? You can carry 2 rigs like that.
