Don't worry, before I try doing something near the ground am gonna first learn the basics that bill von said, if it takes a 100-150 jumps to learn how to do those things in a almost perfect matter well thats whats gonna take for me to do something near the ground. Am a very patient jumper, I like to learn things safe, I know my limits and before I jump I always talk to the instructors about the posts and theyr opinions, to see if I can do something else, "you never stop learning". Like I said if its too dangerous to tell then don't write it and if you still wanna share it then private msg me but please do share the basics of learning, the things to practice up high (higher than 1000'). Reason of why I made a post instead of going to the US and get a Canopy instructor and learn it well first of all is money (plane ticket kinda expensive), second is cause there are others that might be thinking like me or are in the same situation but instead of asking and learn the proper way, they just go and try crazy things with no idea and end up broken (me no lika broken bones) or dead (gives bad promotion to the sport and makes family members sad); who knows maybe they will read this post and practice the things up high before trying to hook for the first time at 700'. I think I must of asked the wrong Q, what I want to know is what is the progression I need in canopy control if I want to learn how to swoop. What are the techinques I should practice if I want to learn how to swoop? is there a step by step way? should I buy a video? I saw a lady use the pull up cords to tie her pony tail. Be careful with that, remember always to do that extra check with the pull up cord in your hand. I once saw a person (had 200 jumps) get all excited for a free jump that he went running to the plane and when he asked for the final check here is what he got "STUPID! go back and put on your rig!" yeap, he forgot his rig; and others forget goggles, helmet, altimeters, to turn on AAD or reset the AAD, to reset the kill line PC, etc... The only thing I can say is that you need some coaching, get a instructor and ask him for help and like SkyMissy said practice your PLF if you make a good PLF you wont get hurt, thats the idea of the PLF. ADVICE: once you get a instructor to help you, listen only to what he advices; don't go out asking everybody you meet, what to do, because if you do you will get a complete mixture of knowledge and style and will end up worst than before. My very personal opinion is that you shouldnt go buying the first cheap thing you find. Remember that a RW jumpsuit is like an investment because if you take good care of it, it will last you for a life time. Don't worry about the price or the time it takes to be made, worry about your needs on a jumpsuit and get a good jumpsuit. Oh yeah, use nylon and maybe you should be thinking on some weights so take measurements with a weight vest (if thats what you are going to use), there is also a weight belt that I heard is very good and you use it outside the jumpsuit (get more info on this last one, if anybody knows about the belt please do reply). Judge your skills if you are good flaring and have good canopy control then I think you can get a 1:1 wingloading with no problem, my first canopy I load it at 1.13:1 and at first I had trouble judging the flare but it went ok. The model I got was a Spectre 150, reasons: smooth opening (the one i was jumping before was a PD 230, big transition), easy to pack and cause of the wing load it will last me for a lot of jumps before I downsize again. If you are still doubting your skills, ask somebody (jumpmaster, instructors, etc.) to watch your canopy control and judge your skills, and check the reviews on the different canopies so you know what you are getting is what you want. I use a spectre 150 and cause of my budget I had to buy a used Dolphin D4 and its huge for my main. Solution: put a tight closing loop and save money for a new container. If you think am flying a death trap please do tell me. "Life is full of danger, so why be afraid? be extreme" drenaline
