Ask a rigger wich reserve system he prefers the reflex or the wings; the sabre is known to smack (if you roll the end cells it can help alot), the hornet I dunno; raven, tempo, both are good reserves, remember to check out if the raven is up to date with the SB (its an extra 100$), also check out if the other used stuff are up to date (bought a container on 325$ had to make the SB 30$ add something to the grommets 80$ and another extra 80$ for the sending cause I live in another country so it all came out for 515$ and had to pay the rigger $$). If everything is fine, then I don't see why to spend the extra 300$ on something new, when you can buy a new altimeter or a helmet with that money or jump tickets or lotsa beer, etc. "Life is full of danger, so why be afraid?" drenaline

I think I will owe beer after this poll (first one). How many skydiving decals or stickers do you have in your car? Decals/stickers in your car 1-2 3-5 6 or more "Life is full of danger, so why be afraid?" drenaline

The best answer you will get is from a doctor, but make sure you get a second opinion on the answer even if it says yes. Jump with a AAD, the 2 AAD setup sounds interesting and make sure you have a Big reserve in case you can't flare it, you wont get hurt; and use a good helmet. Right handed, use both but always put the lines on top of my left shoulder (propack) and make the S from the right. "Life is full of danger, so why be afraid?" drenaline

Don't Mess With Skydivers!!! Las Vegas Law Suit...
drenaline replied to rapper4mpi's topic in The Bonfire
I agree with you billvon. Every skydivers knows what can happen in the air, there is no one to blame if something goes wrong, shit happens. The only reason you can use a law suit or put in jail or kill, is against malice, sabotage, etc. or if you are getting skydiving instruction for first jump from a person that has no rating and knows shit about skydiving instruction and even more if he/she is giving AFF or Tandem instruction and the instructor is a person that can't control himself in freefall and can't make stand up landings, now that person must go to jail and recieve all the law suits posible because he/she is really playing with your life. Remember a first time jumper is 90+% ignorant about the sport so you can't blame him for not knowing. "Life is full of danger, so why be afraid?" drenaline -
Dunno how common is this one but happens. Going up without practicing your muscle memory by reaching the PC hackey handle so you know at what position it is. Some people store the hackey inside the BOC, and at the time of the pull the hacky is store deep inside the pouch, that he has to go to the reserve. Having a loose closing loop, if I remember, the closing loop must be tight so the grommets meet when you put the closing pin, it can cause premature deployment, I think. Remember to untwist the control lines. "Life is full of danger, so why be afraid?" drenaline

Like you said, have a decent talk. I dunno how the system in your company works but can you send memo's to upstair and complain that your partner does not know the word Team Work? send the memo until he gets fired. "Life is full of danger, so why be afraid?" drenaline

Thanks for the invitation, am planning that trip for the year 2004. Next year by carnival time am going to Orlando and jump those 4 days, with coaching and wind tunnel (working and selling (my guitar & stuff) like crazy to get the money), hope to have my B so I can make night jumps and maybe a intentional water jump. I am a Newbie consult my post with others. I think your wingload (your weight + gear weight (15 - 20lbs) / parachute size = 1.2) is a bit high, try going for something a lil big bigger, and if you can get a ZP better, its easier to resale after. I think if you make a good search and email every company (aerostore, sunshine, etc..) you might get a better deal. "Life is full of danger, so why be afraid?" drenaline

Hiya Hobbes, am a newbie (30 jumps) so I dunno how much my opinion counts but I agree with you a 110%. I live in a country were the jumps are not so cheap (25$), only on sundays and some sundays yes and others no (bad weather), and because we are only 20 skydivers in the whole country we only get enough people to make 2-3 jumps per sunday. We try to get the best out of each jump (can't afford less), we try to get coaching on every jump, and try to make a 9-way or bigger (depends on the experience of others) once a year, its very hard to get that amount of jumps in a year or two, but our skills are very good for our number of jumps. It's all about skills, not number of jumps, but thats just my opinion. I want to be a freeflyer but I have no idea what SKILLS (# of jumps are gonna be extremely hard to reach) I need before I travel to the US for a course on Freefly. Hey I know what you feel, it happened to me and is still happening, I changed from a PD 230 to a Spectre 150, now with a wingload of 1.15:1 without the weights. I kept misjudging the flare and landed without a flare or flared once I was on the ground, cause I have no money to buy a new chute am stock with it and had to learn how to use it. The only thing that has helped me is practicing my flare when I open (between 2k and 3k) on each jump, and to see how is the flare for the jump, that helps alot. Remember know your canopy. For the ankle, use ice or cold compress, it helps reduce the pain. For the butt (3 months ago landed on my butt on hard ground and it still hurts) take medicine. Good luck and Blue Skies! Full face is good, but wear a pair of sun glasses (its a must), the light (sun, artificial) is a bitch at first. Doctors concern are: no indoor parties (cause of the cigarrete smokes and black ligths), protect your eyes at all cost, don't touch your eyes, wear sun glasses at day, try to stay home at night and use your medicine including the refreshers (fake tears).
