  2. Last sunday a new skydiver came to our club he's into freefly he told me that at opening he likes to grab the risers and separate them so that his side camera doesn't gets hit. "Life is full of danger, so why be afraid?" drenaline
  3. My bet is that you are getting slapped by the risers, happend to me once and it hurt like crazy. Dunno how good this advice is but here is what I do: after I deploy I make sure that my hands are not close to the risers, after I see the canopy trying to open (spectre = snivel) and after the slider comes down is when I take a hold of the rear risers and move my head to check the area (front, left, right, back) move with rear riser until clear and then I collapse the slider, take it down and unstow the brake, sounds like a lot of time but it happens really fast. The riser slap can be very hard. "Life is full of danger, so why be afraid?" drenaline
  4. I think you hitted the schweet spot of women learning skydiving after marrying a completely self minded close brain whuffo (every whuffo that doesn't even wants to try a tandem is that, but thats just my opinion). Skydiving does changes people, is better to meet a skydiver than to meet a future skydiver cause he/she will change sooner or later. Once you skydive and like it, you get a totally new understanding of the word freedom, debt and broke (in terms of money) and there is no way you wanna let that go and whuffos get jealous of that and want to take you to theyr wicked world of golf and boredom and if you don't comply they get pissed and then it starts... But hey am just a 20 year old kid and single (any ladies?), so what do I know? oh yeah btw, skydiving freedom = (debt)(broke) its a directly proportional thing, you can't have one without the other, it is one of the skydiving curse! 6. Weird, usually people calm down when the canopy opens. If it was first jump it could of been a bad briefing, bad ground school or a bad learning student or plain stupidity. But am no instructor so I could be wrong in all of them. "Life is full of danger, so why be afraid?" drenaline
  7. 14 days without shaving (don't have time for that):2:0 Trying to make a 2-way but I screwed up both exits and was flying with too much stress, gotta calm myself and fly my belly instead of flying I dunno what, unintentional freefly, I think am a natural back to earth flyer, kept doing that in both exits. Made some good landings, on the first one had to slide (10 feet slide I think) so I could reduce my speed and run it and on the second one tried to slide and run but my foot stuck on the floor and fell on my knee and hands. 15. It doesn't really matters if she jumps or no, what matters is if she accepts it or no. If its a no then its a problem, if its a yes then there will be demands from her, something like "I accept your skydiving, now you must accept my private spanish classes with Bubba or Gianni ." 22. If you take the course from a USPA instructor, everything should be ok, just make sure that the instructor is in teaching (or current) status. S/L-I for static line course, AFF-I for AFF training. Affiliated DZ is for DZ who want to pay for publicity, I think. "Life is full of danger, so why be afraid?" drenaline
  23. Hey Derek, Most prolly she wont get any trouble going up cause of the climbing is kinda slow (depends on the plane) if its too fast she can chew some gum, yawn or do the inverse valsalva technique (like scuba diving but inverse, hold your nose and instead of exhaling from your nose, inhale from it) and that would fix the difference of pressure from the inner ear to the outer ear, if her ears bothers in freefall she could yawn, drink saliva or do the normal valsalva (but this last one might induce some uncontrollable turns so its a no good). About her scuba diving (I know this is skydiving), most prolly is that she has some serious sinus problems that would be smart to be checked by a doctor and the other answer is that she might be doing the equalization to late or using a wrong technique. The best technique but harder one (on some people) is to learn how to control the ear muscles, so she can compensate without the need of gum or other technique (the idea of the gum and yawn is to move the ear muscles and force some air in or out the inner ear and compensate the pressure). Oh yeah and the higher you go the less pressure it will be (inverse of scuba, no pressure going in, its pressure going out), so if it bothers her at 12k it might not at 10k. 24. Depends of the scar, read this: Depending on the condition of the scar, it is possible to coverup a scar. It mainly depends on the age and flatness of the scar. If the surface is extremely raised, then that skin may not accept ink. As far as covering up existing tattoos, that can definitely be done. Typically a new piece is two to three times the size of the original to achieve a successful cover up.
