"New Point spreas in Accuracy" More Info needed
ianmdrennan replied to Bowie's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Stu, My post above is the ZA course. Speed is now 5/3 instead of squared. Blues Ian Performance Designs Factory Team -
Scare tactic. Premiums were going up anyway, just like they have in every recent year. Actually, the last two years have been rather flat, and one year we went down.... Can't say I agree. I work for a small business - every single year I've been here we've switched carriers because each year they try a 17% rate increase. I totally expect premiums to rise again, but I don't believe the new bill will cause it. Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

Yeah, it made us glad we were using (well researched) CSA's who are like that 'grass roots farmer' in the documentary. It's not all that surprising, and I always knew that kinda stuff was going on - it just really drive the point home. One of the more interesting things to come from it was the Veggie Liable Laws. I find it really interesting that, in some states, it's a felony to speak out about a food product. My initial thoughts were that it's a first amendment violation but even so, it was clearly driven home how - regardless of such - you'll just be sued until you run out of money. Has anybody seen it? No political message in it (that I saw), but a really interesting view into the Food System of the USA. Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

Please, keep a level head out there folks. If you've had a long lay off from jumping, don't go balls to the wall on that first jump. Take a few to get those visuals back, and back into the swing of this. Yes, I realize this is better posted in safety and training, but it's important to reiterate that here. Safe season, all. Anyone jumping at Skydive The Farm on Sunday?

To pack a parachute - doesn't matter. However, you're missing the point. The jumper was USING the parachute - the packing question just drew attention to that fact. Thereafter the actions of the pilot in question were under the assumption that Calvin wasn't just packing it. Ian Performance Designs Factory Team -

Seems to me that not many people have considered that the pilot didn't feel comfortable giving ANY advice under the circumstances (not knowing who this is I can only guess this is the reason). I don't think that's unreasonable at all. When I think about some of the phone calls I've gotten from DZO's because a pilot said something like "I spoke to Ian about a canopy piloting and he's cool with me doing 270's" when the actual conversation was fleeting, and never 'condoned' any action a jumper was taking, I can't help but sympathize with being cautious about any advice given out. The reality is this: Jumpers hear what they want to hear, and more often than not ANY advice given is taken by the pilot as "He helped me out so I'm doing well". Conversely, when cautionary advice is given, or none at all - the opposite reaction of "They're just trying to hold me back, etc" is had. So who exactly is the twatmuppet? The person who politely declined to give advice(for whatever reason), or the person who came on the internet to complain about it? Ian Performance Designs Factory Team -

Tasteless thread title. No better than the right wing trash. You do realize you're as bad as 'they' are, right? Performance Designs Factory Team

See Mel, and Mike, The problem is that I've seen more than 1 jumper recklessly jumping the blue lines because of the "some guy got 800 jumps out of his" nonsense. We chastise jumpers for poor downsizing decisions. Poor gear maintenance decisions should be no different. The reality is, that on average, no-one is getting 400+ jumps out of those lines. I do. 500-600 is very unreasonable to expect of 350hma - yes, even the 'blue stuff' (which I have a few hundred jumps on myself). I'd strongly caution against going anywhere near that high. If cost is such a factor, I recommend the thicker 500hma lines. Basically - the pilot needs to make good choices within their budget. If you can't afford the maintenance, then another option is better. Remember, lines can break during, or after a turn. Just because they didn't on opening, doesn't mean they're not going to at some point during the jump. The risk is ABSOLUTELY not worth it. Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
